Wanderings of the Soul

I often think as best I can
From where I came to where I am
And wonder at the distance passed
To reach a place of warmth at last

I often wonder in the night
Why I rejected easy plight
From comfort of a feather bed
To crystal granite rock instead

And rather than a lighter load
I chose the more precarious road
Along the rocky path I plod
And felt forsaken by my God

I wondered why He let me fall
So many times as I recall
Abandoned in the lonely night
With weathered wing in awkward flight

I always paid the price it seems
For following romantic dreams
And sometimes it would seem unjust
The price to pay for simple trust

I often wonder why I chose
The thorny branch instead of rose
It wasn't pride or selfish goal
But just the wanderings of the soul

The lessons of the truth of self
The spirit had to learn itself
And looking back I marvel now
At how life teaches life somehow

Recalling now the total sum
Of where I've been to where I've come
I know that each and every day
My God was there to pave the way

Heavenly, Liz, simply heavenly.  This left me with a "Footprint-ish" taste...which I liked very much.  Your writings are very insightful and inspirational.

Lovely...and with such a wonderful flow to it! A keeper for sure

Elizabeth...absolutely beautiful my friend. He knows what is best for us and will not give us anything that we can not handle. Life is mysterious, but I'm a firm believer everything happens for a reason. He led you to us and you've made such an impact on peoples lives here...see there are reasons

This is my absolute
favorite poem
I may have ever read!
You have described
my journey as well,
which has also brought
me back to His loving arms
after many years struggling
in the wilderness trying
to follow my soul
when it was actually the
Spirit I should have kept
my inner eye on.
GLORIOUS

THANK YOU!
Elizabeth

Great poem, think I must be the one tail-gating you!

What can I say to this great piece
Of lessons learned along the way
Of struggles hard and then release
When finding He stayed every day?

Such love He gives to His dear child
To whisper gently in the ear
'Twas He who led her through the wild
He never left, was always near.

I LOVE IT!

Lizzy - this is divine...I love it!

I always paid the price it seems
For following romantic dreams

Oh how I can identify with this verse - my friend - another masterpiece from your pen.
