Today my heart was broken,
for years I've worked with you.
I had to make a choice between
Which person I would choose.

For all this time
I've always put my work ahead of life,
But finally I was placed between
The owner and my boss.

Simply said, we all have goals,
We've tried to reach the top.
We've worked so hard this year, you see,
But only hit each block.

In the past, I've made the choice
to be the very best.
I took the job each time you asked,
and challenged every test.

But now he came and asked me
where my loyalties have laid,
I have to say, the person who
believed in me each day.

And so, I know, I'll find myself,
without my job or home.
When asked to choose, I chose the truth
of friendship that you've shown.

Good, Tulip. It would be interesting to know what prompted this poem.

Sadly, life does sometimes deal us some tough choices. I can sense the pain and the strength needed to make the tough choices in this, Tulip. Well done!

Balladeer,
I wrote this today, because sadly enough, I was put between my boss & THE big boss.  I've worked for my boss for 5 years and he's done nothing but supported me, and promoted me for years.  Our performance this last year was the very worst it's ever been.  THE big boss is not happy, and he's pointing fingers at everybody.  So he asked me to "inform" him, because "he believes in me", and he thinks my boss is the problem.  I chose today, to let my boss know, and I know that I could have jeaporadized my position.  But, I wouldn't have felt right about it otherwise.  We'll see what happens!

I hope all went well.....

I sing my tearful song which has charms only for me."

Oh, Tulip - I feel for you.  It is a most arduous position to be put in.  I wish you the best in your current predicament.  Very lucid writing ,btw.
