Off Beaten Path

It seems so strange, this life to me
The way it all turns out to be
Uncharted roads and unplanned days
Can lead to joy in many ways

Untravelled highways, twists of fate
Around the bend small pleasures wait
Sometimes a little step or two
Off beaten path starts life anew

You never know what you may find
Or what you may have left behind
If not to venture once or twice
Onto the thin of winter's ice

Down country road unseen before
A glance behind unopened door
It may be there awaiting you
As you are simply passing through

At times you chance to meet a face
In vision's most unlikely place
At times you find a precious love
When searching for a mourning dove

Good morning, Elizabeth, my friend-

Reminds me of the many pleasures I've
found by setting out to travel a different
path.

An intuitive turn (left instead of right)
has taken me on many an adventure that
I wouldn't have otherwise experienced.

Yep, you've hit the nail on the head
with this BEAUTIFUL rendition.

You continue to amaze me, my friend.

Elizabeth dear,
You have captured a wonder here.
An exquisite poem,
Of the ways that we roam.
It flows clear and sweet like spring water
But has the strength of cured morter

Once again, Elizabeth, finely crafted words of wisdom, displayed so beautifully!!

Liz my dear

oh how I love the windy road
the path around instead of through
the aging house with open door
and the sign keep out
fallen on the floor

the tangled garden
the yellowed note
the stranger's back
are doors of hope

to turn one way
and not the other
is a choice for me
that makes me flutter
toward the reckless
mountain and steep cliff view
far from the road
the straight crow flew

Loved your poem Liz as always, you inspire me.

Elizabeth: I really do admire your lust for life and in feeling that you gain more pleasure from it than most...here's to laughter and bumping into corners..*g*

Don't ask me where I'm going, just listen when I'm gone and far away you'll hear me singing softly to the dawn.

Sunshine, Thank you  (love that spanish moss!)

Martie,
When the response is better than the poem, don't you think that poet responding should write more structured verse?
Thanks Martie, Can't wait til the 5th
Liz

Rainbow, Thank you, how sweet, Yes, laughter and bumping corners, I do a lot of both
Glad you liked the poem
Talk soon

Hello, I really enjoyed your peom. I have taken that path less traveled and have felt the thrill and fear that it brings.  Your words captured the experience.

And as you tread those lonely paths
where seldom people go...
consider the quiet beauty..
be glad that it is so.
Take time to dwell on pleasant things
Just look around and see..
and standing in the shadows,
there are others just like me.

Lovely seems such a pallid word to convey the tribute this work deserves.

You have a gift I must say
With words, you have an awesome way
Remembered my short encounter here on
Once I walked a beaten pass and around the bend
There, sat this beautiful Blue Heron
Only inches was the bird away
In awe, I stood. Not knowing what to say
I looked directly in his eye
He was just as scared as I
With rushing swing
He went away...behold his wing

Beautiful, thanks for the reminder on a great encounter.

The ability to describe life with words is similar to painting a picture; both can be powerful tools.

Danny, I guess we all leave the beaten path once in a while, but some are afraid to
Thank you
Liz

Gunslinger, Gosh the response again is better than the poem!
Beautiful!
Liz

Sometimes I like to get lost on purpose. Really love those paths less travelled. Lots of great things are awaiting and even a few scary ones just to keep the old pump workin' lol. Love the poem!
