The Old House

I'm back at the old house,
though perhaps I really never left,
with it's large rooms
and attic full of relics
from lives having been lived
to the fullest
becoming only a memory
to the caretakers of the antiques.

I'm back at the old house
on a winter morning
looking through the frosted windows
huddled over the furnace grate
listening to Grandma in the kitchen
cooking, planning....our culinary day.

I'm back at the old house
because I never wanted
to leave behind
memories of my life
on a table in the attic.
So the old house still stands
and always will
in my mind.

memories will always be treasures that we keep whether they be in boxes in an attic, or they be in our minds forever. Memories helped create the person we are today. Nice poem thanks for sharing.

Such a wonderful, nostalgic flavor to this, Robert. If I had anything to do with your creation of this poem, I'm very glad.

I agree! Great poem, Robert!

RobertB-

Between you and Balladeer, you've got
me all nostalgic.  I have three cedar chests that hold just a small portion of 'me' from yesteryear.  All the rest is .. in spread
all through the house.  I visit with the memories everyday.  What joy !

Great rendering.

Thanks to all. I wrote this awhile back Balladeer, but your poem brought it back to mind so I posted it as a response. I have to thank you for the reminder.

Marge, I love cedar chests. I'll come over some winter day and we can sift through memories and drink hot tea!!!

Robert this poem was a wonder of sweet and revered memory--I have, like Marge a treasure of years spread across my house.  Hot tea?

In the dew of little things,
the heart finds its morning
and is refreshed.
