Possession

You lay dying, breathing with such dept
Possibly measured only by a tear
You lay crying, weeping and falling
Into my arms where sudenly I was your solace
You lay there
And I could do nothing

My heart was bleeding to death
Where had I gone wrong in such a painful stillness?
Promising myself to never be again
The sole possession of another

And yet I looked into your eyes
I felt my heart thump so strongly in my chest
My blood boiled from its once frozen throb
I was falling, flying and suddenly holding
The love I had been denied for so long

You were here, in my arms, crying
And how it tore at my heart so
For I knew that you weren't crying for me
But for her, who had died,
And for yourself, who had lost

I was but a connection, your living memory of your angel
And nothing more could be reflected
But I guess you'll never know how much it hurt
To know the reason of my possession

Who did you see when you held me so?
The hurt, pain and relief was there,
But was it for her or you?
Maybe me?

Possession is to own
To own, for you, is to love
How I long to say the words,
To admit the hurt in your embrace
But when I see the love in your eyes
The love you gave to her
The breath is taken away

And so I hold you in my arms,
Defending against the living death you seem to live,
Pretending to be the one to comfort you
Pretending to be the calm one
And all the while,
When you told me of her possession
Of your heart and soul
I couldn't help think
Of mine

Tiffany-

This is hauntingly lovely.
I can feel the longing,
feel the need,
feel the sorrow.
But mostly ... I can feel the love.
Wonderful.

Marge said it quite well.  Definitely hauntingly beautiful work.  You have such talent.

Hi Astraea,

O such a moment in embrace! Esp. love the ending:

When you told me of her possession
Of your heart and soul
I couldn't help think
Of mine

What a beautiful poem...and yes, haunting.  I felt the love you shared.
