(I'm sorry for the hyphenated "cage-ed", but this
stupid computer doesn't do stress marks, so I had to
improvise) -wen

I see a cage-ed tree
Amid a field of asphalt
Limbs skyward stretch to free
As if to heaven could vault
Yet at its feet, an iron gate
Will not allow it out
Holding back, it keeps it straight
With sorrow, rage, and doubt
For if this tree could leave its chain
Traverse the cold, hard pavement
'Twould cry and flail its boughs in pain
For this desparing enslavement.
