Concealed, he reads the pages of my life
Between the lines discerns himself within
Believes my inkwell deep with him is rife
Where did such arrogance as this begin?

He slithers close at times to let me know
Heís ever lurking near with watchful eye
And hisses with disdain heíll not let go
Until from me heís wrought a tortured cry.

A powerhouse is used of energy
To tell me Iím not worth a single watt
Intelligent, I make no claim to be
But seems more Ďsmartsí than that Iíve surely got.

Of many volumes penned before lifeís done
A footnote heíll not claim, not even one.

†Denise

Wow!...What a poem.  Certainly, though, there are much better things to be writing about, especially in his case.  Very well done, Denise.

Donít bring out the ring to spar
As things are settle here with words in war
You told him how you feel
The punches thrown feel so real
Well done there dear
And I agree with Balladeer

No battles are going on.....just some thoughts on someone from the past. I guess just my way of saying that even though he thought(thinks) that the sun rises and sets at his command...he is nothing in my life!
Thanks for reading and commenting! It is always appreciated!

Denise.
I just had to check to make sure you were OK before responding to this.
My, how your creative juices are flowing! Quite the poet, who can embellish a story like this. How about a novel?

Thanks for your concern Elizabeth! But I'm just fine! Sometimes I get a spurt of creativity, fictionally speaking, but I think novels are beyond my capabilities. I'd best leave that to Marilyn!   Thanks again, Elizabeth and for reading and commenting too!

This is potent verse, Denise. Excellent in rhythm and form. Has such an underlying (and overlying!) darkness woven into it.

Denise, don't give that.....another thought and no more writing about him, you here. You never know who might be hiding between the lines. Seriously, great poem and well written.

Hi Denise,

Nothing like a sonnet and you've penned a good one.  Love your couplet.  Good one!

Thank you, Nate, Martie, Rus and Roger for reading and commenting! Glad you all liked it! I don't usually write 'dark' poetry and didn't know how this would go over.

Wow, Rus, that's beautiful! Thanks so much!
