Promises and Paper Chains
-----------------------------------------------

Paper kept in dusty places
In cupboard drawers, on bedroom walls
Promises made on paper chains,

the ink long dried
of a ceremony gone by,
a reminder, of vows taken,

I Read the scroll, and see her face
a solemn promise is shaken
the paper brittle, the ink is fading,

how to break these paper chains
of promises made in another time
our simple lives, now so complex.

                  Parker. Dec 29, 1989

Life can very sad and emotional at times, can't it?

And these reminders, like your chains, are sometimes the hardest to deal with, do we throw them away to keep the memories at bay, or keep them because we know that someday we'll be glad we did.

Nice poem!

Beautifully well done dear, I'm curious as to what has brought upon the sadness in this one, but tis lovely all the same.

Promises can be broken so easily, can't they. Very sad. Well done poem, James.

The emptiness of this piece just flows.  Beautiful...but sad.  Very enjoyable reading.

Thanks Sunshine ... your right they do.

WildChild thanks, glad you liked the line.

Thanks Nate, I think I'm not a very good long form poet, as short and sweet as possible.

Ah sweet Corinne, I think keep the reminders, your right we may regret their loss, everything we've ever done and been is a thread of who we are, good or bad. ... thanks.

poetFemmeFatale, It was a sad moment for something that played a wonderfull part in my life. ....

P.S. I got my supply of popcorn waiting for that big meeting.

devina, thanks. Sometimes a relationship ending is like death, no more communication, no more warmth of friendship, no more long talks on the phone, is there really any difference.

Thanks denise , Micheal, and Hoot, I'm so glad you guys liked it
