The Crunch and Clamor of Thought

What can time tell the sky
of the listening ear?
In the morning there is light
that explains the trembling questions
of the night
and in the yard the sweet pea
snakes its tendrils up
and the dormant yearns to open.

She muddles through decaying leaves
spread across her lap they fall
in unchecked number
as she rakes them into cans and barrels
mows them into compost
distributes them in earnest
to grow from all this lesson
a garden in the mind.

The crunch and clamor
of thought
in winterís chill
was harbored against the freeze
nestled darkly in pungent soil
cannot wait for springís delight
to break and seek sunís solace
for the errant butterfly
succumbs to the color of words
that grow and bloom in profundity
and sits on those fingers
in opening grace.

And she is surprised
that this attitude could bring
depth and breadth to what was longing
and that expression could eclipse
her burgeoning need for solace
and that all the sky is open
to her questioning habit
and that from this throne
a crown is already displayed.

What is
is not glitter
but ripe and blooming
and even the sky
is listening
as time stands still.

†In the dew of little things,
the heart finds its morning
and is refreshed.
(ee cummings)

HUGS

Don't ask me where I'm going, just listen when I'm gone and far away you'll hear me singing softly to the dawn.

Martie,
First of all, the title beckons a read
And then each line makes you anticipate the next. I don't know how you create a feeling with words the way you do. It is amazing!
