Could Be Anywhere...

Asher Keep

A thought occurs to me, like lightning
as I watch my wife and her mother
drive away off to church
dressed in their Sabbath finery.

Sitting on the porch
bundled in Navaho poncho
fresh coffee and morning smoke;
the dogs out back complaining
about having to stay home,
the birds by dozens flocking
to their home-made feeders,
laughing at the cats stalking-
showing their aerial frustrations;
ah yes,  our life here is fulfilling.

Warm, crisp January morning
in the Oklahoma woodlands
My wife and her mom smile
I see their lips moving
from behind automobile glass,
discussing me... no doubt!
A few compliments
a helping hand with braided hair
and off they go into the morning;
ah yes, our life here is fulfilling.

A thought occurs to me, like lightning
as I watch my wife and her mother
drive away on Sabbath morn...
a simple yet profound realization
of how very much I love them.

Your poetic simplicity here so expressively  portrays the depth of your sentiment. A wonderful, early morning missive.

I can picture your morning easily. How Clear!
And isn't it funny how those moments of love just come out of nowhere and isn't it neat when they do.You have been blessed obviously!

i'm totally amused...
one works one's fingers to the bone
for over thirty years perfecting one's
craft...getting the phrasing and word
play and structure just right!  And the
poems which impacts others are the ones
that just jump onto the page...go figger!
Thank you all for the wonderfull gift of irony...
