Homely held
without walls

live only in
an invention

chairs that know
my arms as they rest
a fridge
squeaking welcome
pots that clatter

I search
flicking through
lifeless print

with a pen
hoping for people

I stumble on unknown paths
pat unknown cats
and move

into weighted rooms
still dancing
with the dust motes

at the core
just handing over
for the right to
plump comfortably
on a couch
another bought
long before
I scuff the carpet

and I cry

wanting just to
melt into the
of a place

for longer than
a year

I am not of this nature
to adventure
the way of packing
and tearing tape

I want to settle

raised only
under the stir
of my breath

within halls
I mould

I hope you find 'home' real soon, Severn. Well done, once again! Your longing comes through loud and clear in this!

Awesome Severn......You know there is one thing I hate more the moving......It is moving someone else    Home is where you heart lies....Not the place where your body does

Don't ask me why..picking one of your poems as my favorite is a labor of Hercules...but this is it. Perhaps because the longing and wanting of it strikes such a deep chord in me, perhaps because the sadness is so real, perhaps because your pots clatter familiarity or you pet unknown cats....whatever it is, this one will stay with me for a long time. Thank you, Kamla.

Severn, I must say...

This is, without a doubt, the best poem I've read in this forum!

Bar None, hon!  If you haven't already submitted this to publishers, you might want to consider it!

Kamla, Kamla, I don't know how to express the feelings this poem gave me--so pure and elegantly simple that I knew exactly what you meant but could never have expressed it thus.  You have such a talent!

In the dew of little things,
the heart finds its morning
and is refreshed.

Severn - What can I possibly say that has not already been said?  Your writing pallete paints masterpieces; your words evoking feelings like none other.

May I never be too busy to help another's load,
Then I'll be drinking from the saucer 'cause my cup has overflowed.

I love the way this is written.  It takes me into new steps of thought when I think about my writing.  Very nice.

Kammie -
Home is in your heart.
It's where you take it ...
where you make it.
What a lovely, haunting
way you've described the search.
Soon, little one .... soon it will be
just the perfect place to be.

Dear Kamla,
Your poem touched me very deeply because I know it's real. I can feel your hollowness and longing when I read this.
As far as the poem itself, absolutely superb.
(But dn't forget, you do have a home in Pennsylvania, you know.)
Keep your wonderful spirit,
Love ya,

Kamla...even though I never know what the subject matter is going to be when I open up one of your works, I do know one's going to be great and it's going to blow me away, your words always do. This is so moving, so sad, but oh so well written!

This is certainly one of the most heartfelt poems I've read.  You can feel the longing and sadness here.  Excellent writing!

Kamla, you work never ceases to amaze me.  This is awesome, and I relate so well to the theme.  I've never truly felt at home where I am....I long for that feeling.  To have it settle in...  Very touching pice.  Kudos

Kamla every time i find a new favourite of yours you go and write another!!!  I totally agree with Balladeer, and actually everyone else - the longing and sadness is evoked through your words, the way you place them, the sense of the poem is alive with a deep hollowness that extends deeper than your feeling of homelessness.  Know that even when you are in borrowed space the space in your heart is a home not only for your poetry and everything else special that it contains, but it is a home where Christ settles and lives in forever - sweetie you'll find a place real soon, I know it.
Loved this poem beyond words hon.

Good expression in your poem

Severn, this was amazing.  I'm sure a lot of people can relate to this rootlessness, me included.  I think i've moved about 18-20 times in my lifetime, and skipped countries once, so i totally understand your perspective. Beautifully expressed.

Kam, we are kindred spirits in've written a superb, absolutely perfect description of how it feels when home is not home. I hope someday we both know the comfort of knowing that where we are is where we always wanted to be. (((hugs)))
