Following the Leader
By Alex Hahn

Take pity on us for we are lost
We know not where the sidewalk leads
We have no destination.

Take pity on us for we are lost
We seem to have no understanding
We whine and cry yet know not why.

Take pity on us for we are lost
We cannot seem to find our way
We need a guide, we need a light.

Take pity on us for we are lost
But don’t give us bread and water
And don’t give us clothing.

Take pity on us for we are lost
But don’t tell me what to do
And don’t ask me why I don’t listen.

Take pity on us for we are lost
But never yell at us in anger
And never hide from us the truth.

Take pity on us for we are lost
We don’t want to have any trouble
We just need someone to lead the way.

Tara, thank goodness for Alex and students like him they have had the opportunity to know and work with you.  That is glorious in and of itself!

I am a Life Purpose Coach who specializes in assisting
men and women to clarify their Life Purpose and then in turn
live true to their purpose. After 5 years working with the
Severely Mentally Ill in County Mental Health, I gave up the
bureaucracy (and safe, secure blanket) of this environment
to pursue my own purpose and passion.

This is really a very wonderful first post.  I sincerely hope we have the opportunity to see more of Alex's work.  The repetition really adds to this poem.  A point is well made, and reinforced by subsequentl lines.  Nice job, Alex.....
