Some control

I can't control or make someone else's choices, that couldn't possibly be.
The woman I Love chose to leave me one day desiring to be set free from me.

Wish I had been less critical and treated her better day by day,
then I still could be loving her as special as she was,
cause she probably would have Loved to stay.

She would have remained my wife and my friend,
my sweetheart and my lover in everyway.

So in some degree it appears I do have some control over another,
when I choose to treat them with love and respect or I choose to be a cad,
You can pick your hearts desire, soft and good or hard and bad.

I believe Love should be freely given,
many times it has made me happy and glad.
And I hope and pray you will never see the day
when misused love takes your lover away.

Surely I know, I have some control,
when I choose to treat those I Love
either good or bad.

James - so much wisdom about hindsight - and only time teaches it.

Well done poem.

A lesson hard learned. Some things in life have a very high price tag. Great poem, James.

Thank you Severn, whiskey, Marge, and Denise for your nice comments.  Denise I have to agree with you it was a very high price for me to pay and I hope I never have to go thru something like that again.  Hopefully I have learned some lessons I'll remember for a lifetime.   James
