Like a ship
without a sail,
with no rudder at the tail,
adrift within a storm
of life confusions,
I was beached upon a shore,
no chart had ever shown before,
when I jumped onto the sand
I knew I found an island,
my island Adrienne.

I work the land from Monday
until we sail the boat on Sunday,
to places on Long Island,
From Guilford to Duck Island,
where time passes quickly,
like the breeze across the bow,
and I'm safe within the shelter,
my island Adrienne.

Now I love the life I'm living
and all that God has given
the earth, sea and sky
and this good woman by my side.

My wife you see is everything to me
I love her more each day,
she helps me see the way,
and we somehow seem to be
best friends and now a family.

So we'll blow with the breezes,
and God bless Adrienne when she sneezes,
working together against life tides,
we'll tack together side by side,
through storms, doldrums and jives,
our love forever will survive.
You are my island, Adrienne.

EARTHMAN

This is a beautiful, tender tribute to a wife who is loved dearly!  Any lady would be thrilled to have such a poem written to her!  I love it!  I also love the picture I feel from it - my husband and I have a similar feeling, that our lives are an island, in an unfeeling world, but we're loving, warm and safe together for all time.

You must love the sea as much as I as most your poetry centers around it. Sounds like one lucky woman

Very beautiful!  Your wife is a lucky woman.

A wonderful tribute! The setting is North Carolina? Your wife is a lucky lady, indeed, to have such deep love and devotion from you. God bless you both!

Paul, this a lovely tribute to a wonderful marriage. Sometimes I feel like me and my husband are battling the same storms and squalls yet we always face them together and somehow have managed to keep 'er afloat for 15 years. Your wife is a very blessed woman.

Enchanting poetry about your wife
Set sail together for life
Well wtitten and so nice
Did you got a kiss when she read it....I don't think she was thinking twice

The ability to describe life with words is similar to painting a picture; both can be powerful tools.

Paul-

Quite the lovely tribute.
Wonderful to 'see'
the 'sea' on which you set sail.
Sounds like Island Adrienne is a
wonderful place to land.
My best to you and your 'first mate'.
