Now this poem is about my favorite rapper who is one of the best lyricist in the music biz but he's short on respect, acknowledgement, and money. He's a very conscious rapper that raps about religion and politics. There ain't too many rappers out that's smart like him and that's why he's my favorite. But I guess this how life is, when you're an underground rapper. Anyways, I hope y'll like the poem.

Life is hard,
for a rap artist,
such a I.
I've got more skills,
than Jordan got bills
but in these rap days,
I'm reduced to a very low rate
because, everybody is out to make money,
so it's quantity over quality.
It's easier to flop,
than it is to reach the top.
It's a shame
that everybody's out for fame.
Good intentions are microscopic,
to fat pockets.
And f-ck a platinum record,
I just wanna be heard,
for all my hard work.
I just want enough money,
to feed my son, Jimmy.
And when I make a commercial song,
the hard-core fans think I'm wrong.
But when I make a underground classic,
nobody buys it.
So basically, I'm trapped in rap's casket.
Who can I blame,
for these thought waves,
that flow through my brain,
keeping me from going insane.
I'm a dope lyricist,
that drop knowledge like scientist
but, they don't wanna hear anything complex,
they just wanna hear about drugs and sex.
They don't want something that helps your mental,
they want to hear something more conventional.
But I refuse to sell out,
in pursuit of more clout.
I just want enough money,
to live my life in security.
But it's alright though
because, I'm just about out the door.
I'm only in this game for the love of it,
not to make the platinum list.
But no matter what, I will continue to bless the mic,
with unseen precise.

This is true in all areas of life. It's not confined to the music industry, but my own personal experience can relate to this (my hsuband, his brother, and my newphew all were in bands that should have made it big). Talent does not seem to be the main determining factor but rather who one knows seems to be more important. But, as in all of life, God can and does work all things out for our own good. We just have to have the eyes to see it and not become bitter with 'what-ifs'. I enjoyed your poem, Nate!

Well written, Nate. I could feel a rhythm through the entire poem and the message is a good one. Nice Job!
