-saturday night-
Have you ever tasted the weekend.
Have you ever burned yourself with a spilled cigarette.
Have you ever run down the street
Faster than lights reflecting off of windshields.
Have you ever tasted blood in the back of your throat.
Have you ever held a gun, the weighted precision,
Point here and there and watch things die --
At least stumble.
Have you ever heard the roaring in your ears,
The shadows thrown on you by a million objects
As you dancejittered on the sidewalk and fell.

Was the moon an eclipse of your thoughts,
Or the full bright mess you conjured with your choices?
Was your hand shaking when you held the joint
And let the whole thing glow for a second
Even though there was no flame at all?
Did you smash out that bubble light because
You wanted to give the cops something to pay for --
Or was it just another saturday night?

Yes, just another saturday night.
After a while, even mistakes can't be escaped.
Just another saturday night.
Will sunday renew your strength, or is it the wait you hate?
Just another saturday night to flake.
Just another saturday night to stumble.
Just another saturday night to break.
Just another saturday night to crumble.
Just another saturday night to lose and to gain.
Just another night to live well with your pain
This saturday.

Wow man!  My saturday nights were never THAT exciting!  LOL  No, seriously....I felt alot of emptiness, lonliness and frustration in this piece - you did a great job of showing someone's random efforts to find peace in themselves....I could feel the subject wandering through the streets in desperation...Thanks for sharing.  I look forward to reading more of your work!

Well, truthfully, my Saturdays aren't that exciting either -- and I thank god! FemmeFatale hit it right on the head: it's really a poem born of loneliness, frustration, etc. I'm still working through a breakup (if you couldn't tell by some veiled references in my other poems), and these feelings are still seething, though, thankfully, not as bad as when the news was broken -- ooo, now that in itself sounds like a poem title!

I generally try to stay away from Saturday Nights that are THAT wild. They can be murderous!!! Have witnessed a couple but I prefer to be an innocent bystander or better yet safe at home in front of my comfy computer lol.

Don't ask me where I'm going, just listen when I'm gone and far away you'll hear me singing softly to the dawn.
