Ashen tongue
scalded by lies
reaches deep into the wellspring of belief
to drink down poisoning Truth
once again scalding the tongue
with blistering deceit
Every Truth of man was birthed in deception
down the line 'til Eve's conception
blossomed forth as raging fratricide
leading forward to fuel each future genocide
for Man's jealousy was born of the Serpent
and we are all sons
and daughters of Cain.
Adam's children mingled
with the seed of Cain
giving birth
to immortal pain
and doubtful self-worth
Our Dark forefather sleeps
beneath the facade we believe
tormenting conscience with Dreadful dreams
We can no more be Saints
than dead sinners can repent
of the pleasures they felt in far away life
for Lilith was the mother
that Cain took to wife
so incestuous progeny we be
created in innocence when Pride took Eve
and crucified her on the cross of blame
and naive Adam gave us his name
Even today we slaughter our brothers
in thousand-score masses
we live and breathe his legacy
and call unholy madness an act of the sane
for truly are we the Children of Cain.

Dark one, these are strong words: We can no more be Saints
than dead sinners can repent

I like! Heavy, brooding work - it flows also, like a timeline - like generations.

Wow -- scathing and raw -- I love this!

"created in innocence when pride took Eve
and crucified her on the cross of blame ..."

Excellent, my friend, excellent.

I guess it is a testment to the quality of your work that after having read so many I am still surprised by the depth and strength of your words.  Thank you for sharing your talent and self.

Well, I've always said you are an excellent poet..but there was something about this that made me feel uncomfortable (what you were aiming for I think)..it seems hard edged..and for me, was difficult to read.. the flow wasn't there....(but it's good..just not my style!)

This is a very powerful piece Scott. We need to realize that we are ALL human. Being human we all make mistakes and we are all intitled to our feelings. When we do not agree with another does not mean that either is in the wrong, just on the other side and unable to understand our point of view.

Brilliant, my friend.  This one did indeed cut very deep.

Extremely dark and chilling!  The ending lines makes my blood run cold.  Great writing.

I believe mankind to be children of Cain as much as children of God. Therein lies the reason for our depth of feeling.
