The Poet

His hands were those of a potter and
his eyes were fluid grey.
His hands and eyes breathed
borrowed breath
into my lifeless clay.

His mornings were of ancient art,
of silence and of self.
His daylight found him teaching
sound and syllable, words as wealth.

But his twilight hours were filled with
sharing touch and sound and sighs
with one who loved his potter's hands
and the fluid grey life in his eyes.

Dear LadyClaire

This is the first poem I read of yours when I visited your site, it’s so beautifully written well done.

Echoing Nan - and might I add Meadow that you have a style that is incredibly refreshing, like a breath of poetic air - wonderful verse.
