Balladeer is here, my friend,
Within words read o'er and o'er again.
He's posted memories in our hearts,
And shown us all our better parts.

Ache not for where he may be now,
But hark instead and allow
Your memories of this friend so fine
To carry you through this barren time.

He's shown us all the brighter side,
Of love and loss and wounded pride.
Though his pen enjoys this brief respite,
I'm sure he's not ceased to write.

He's 'Deer to us as he is to you,
This man of worldly wisdom true.
His silence speaks loudly for poets all,
His gift of verse will again enthrall.

So, Balladeer, take your well-earned rest,
Your gilded pen has truly blessed
The dreams of us who here aspire
To be lifted by you ever higher.

I guess that rascally Toerag will find some mean things to say, but I've been blessed by 'Deer (and Toe) and sometimes I wax a bit sentimental.

Okay LongJohn, I agree,
About that damned old 'deer,
But I'm sure he's here somewhere,
And will respond to us soon here.

I wouldn't say a single thing,
That would be construed as mean,
After all I have you?
To ask for both would show my greed!

This was such a sweet nice poem,
Can't believe it came from you?
Did Lorelei tell ya what to say?
It's not the kind you do?

Hey there, Toe - my fine friend
Tis good to see you posting again.
I've missed the bantering of late.
Take it easy, you reprobate.

Hi there, Toe - have a good one.  I'll be down in your stretch of the woods for two weeks in late March and early April (with my ever-lovely Lorelei).  Then I'll be coming back in early May for another two weeks, and again in mid-to-late June.  We NEED to touch bases and rid this country of its massive beer surplus.  Please let the folks in your area know of our plans so they can set aside a tank at their water treatment plant just for us.  lol

LJA: There are parts of your poem that sound much like a eulogy... if this doesn't draw him out, we'll know it should be! LOL

Nice poem, Lor. *EG*

Belle - yanno, Lorelei and I will be staying in a hotel room that has a pull-out sleeper in addition to a king size bed; so there's plenty of room for you to sleep - come on over and we'll all add 10 years to that wily rascal's life!

Thanks for the lovely compliments all...I can't take any credit for them, I was grocery shopping as he was writing them.  However, perhaps my sweet nature has rubbed off a bit on him!  Belle, I second the invite...a foursome to party would be great!

Dogonnit, LohnJhn, what can I say? You really got to the deer's feelings with this one. I'm pretty much at a loss for words here. Well, that settles it. I'm firing up the pen and getting back to some rhyming! I appreciate this poem very much, Mike, and just the thought that you sat down to write it. I'm so used to getting slapped upside the head by that Toerag that I....LOL!   I haven't met finer gentlemen that either one of you two(just don't tell him I said so).
Rumor has it that y'all might have Florida on your schedule. The door is open. I welcome you both with open arms...well, Lorelei with open arms anyway
Thank you again, Mike. I appreciate it more than you know.

Please know I meant no disrespect
To an off-world search who could object?
If he would rest then make it so
But does that mean that we can't go?

Could ya imagine? You, me, Balladeer?....You'd get a divorce, Suthern would never speak to me again, and Palmetto bugs would run rampant down in Florida?....Yep.....Let's go for it!!!! I'll get Suthern to meet us, you get Lorelei drunk, and we'll get Balladeer so screwed up he won't know what a can of Raid looks like....ya wanna?
