  Measuring Distance

How can I gage the empty place
where your head pressed
and that sweet perfume of sleep
the soft muted sound of night

I am cold without
the cover of your warmth
and the listening curve of your back
the touch of concern
even as you sleep
if I sigh

The years have engraved
your face in this room

The blanket of night descends
and I find the goblins I listed
in my childhood
waiting for this lonesome moment
to make a small sound
that tucks into my reflection

I am the master of my thoughts
but you are the keeper
and I miss the intimate knowledge
that you have the key

< !signature-->

In the dew of little things,
the heart finds its morning
and is refreshed.
(ee cummings)

Oh Martie...and the listening curve of your back

Wow - I love that.
I love that - and the whole poem.

Martie,
You've left me speechless in the feeling of alone. You are a wonderful writer, Martie, I've been saying that all along, but yet I'm always stunned with each new piece. I hope to see you soon

Man!  Martie - If I had known women feel this way, I would have been much more careful where I slept - lol.  Seriously, though - this poem was wonderful for the feelings it brought out - this is a true work of art.  I sincerely hope you are not going through this right now.  The melancholy tone was haunting.  I loved the lines:

The blanket of night descends
and I find the goblins I listed               in my childhood
waiting for this lonesome moment                to make a small sound
that tucks into my reflection.

This is such an incredibly vivid description of loneliness and loss.  I love every word.

Yea....if LongJohn wouldda known "women" felt like this..he wouldn't have wasted all that time at the YMCA snuggling to Bruce and Fred and Balladeer....

Toe-thanks so much for the compliment and for reading.

Betty-I am honored that you would want to send this to someone.  Thank you

And LJ, yes, I think many women feel like this, don't men?  Yes, I am going through this right now, but it is only temporary.  Thanks for your concern and for the wonderful comments.

This is exceptional writing Martie and an equisite poem...
