She stood on the hard cold pavement.
With tranquil sophisticated look.
Cosseted with fear in all years.
Mollify her pride with vain promises.

She stood appraising the autumn heat.
Vicks-scented air hung heavy all around.
Wild desire she denies ever not.
She waits to beguile more cursed lovers.

She stares with cloudy mystic eye.
Her once ripe body battered by age.
She now sleeps with vanity lullaby.
When alone shattered dreams hug her.

She stoodstill as like a statue.
Hard and Cold her body, her soul.
Fate had chosen her long ago.
She was only 7 when she was abandon.

Wonderful blank verse this is and with a poignant message as well. This likes me much it does.

Now and forever, my heart hears ~one voice~.

Very sad..   Is it factual?

Hi guys,

Thanks and it is a sad poem. RG, no its not factual....this poem developed from my feelings for the downtrodden sex workers..

Very sad indeed!  Well written.

neitham: Thanks for answering the question and yes, it's sorrowful to see an adult's expressions in the eyes of one so young..
