As I drink from my psychedelic trippy stew
What song played first? Well that would be the Who
Or would that be whose on first? well I don’t know
I’ll just play the first record and let it go
John and Yoko sing a nonsensical riff
Please John don’t get shot in 1980, Sniff!
Let’s all sit around a magical campfire
Somebody light it that was Jim’s desire
The other Jim asks “have you kissed the sky since”
You my very good friend became experienced
You might can see, I want to be a long haired hippie pup
But durn for me,in the sixties,I drank from a sippy cup

okokokokok i was really drinkin from a sippy cup (if they had em back then) in the 70's yuh but oh well and hey hey everyone i encourage to add onto this yuh because i wannna read about yuh regalin o yuh youth so i can be even more envious o yuh hippies o and one thing yuh no one talk bout WAR!! war war what is it good for absolutely nothin remember that!!!

all respective references referred to by royalties rectified by the reader! yuh

LOL Walt! I remember SOME of those days vividly. Most are a bit blurry though. Yes they did have sippy cups. I gave my oldest son one when he was growing up and he was born in '72. Not that he was allowed to sip anything I had in my cup LOL Speaking of war. I think somewhere I still have a poster that says "War is not healthy for children or other living things." My favorite poster from back then was a black light poster that was of Nasty Neeno and it said "Keep on Truckin" I think it was supposed to say "Keep on trippin'" but people got pretty uptight about that. I must say that in some ways I really miss those days gone by and in other ways I wonder how I managed to live thru them. All I can say is "What a long strange trip it's been". Thanks for letting me remininsce a little. Great poem.

Good read walt, but 'tis slightly before my time. Not that I didn't make up for it in the 80s.

Well that is before my time too, but BOY did I make up for it in the 90's...but I do hear all the stories from my mom (talk about MAJOR hippie) and my step dad, wow.  I almost wish I was alive back then, but then again....LoL, great poem though!

Drivin' down them country roads,
Binoculars in hand, huntin' stools for toads,
A cow patty here, a cow patty there,
Fields of plenty everywhere!

Pick them mushrooms, fill that bag,
Take 'em home, made "Tea-Toerag"
Up on the stove, boil them well,
Add some Kool-aid, wait a spell.

Your mind will wander, vision blurs,
Ya smile a bunch, your speech might slur.
Then around and round, the room will go,
Your mind's just reapin' what ya sewed.

If it gets too scarey, just take a drink,
Get stone faced drunk, till you can't think.
When the trip starts subsidin'
You might think twice 'bout psilocybin!

Hmmm, Toe? My mind doesn't wander when you're around... 'cept when I lose my train of thought... but I sure do smile a bunch! *G*

Loved the poem, Walt... and the responses! *S* One of my fondest memories is of a choral concert... we were singing Aquarius and Let the Sun Shine to end the concert... and the director cut us loose to dress as we pleased (and yes, though the music was from Hair, we were all dressed! LOL) Several members of the choir were Pentacostal... and when they let their hair down, they out-hippied the hippies! *G* My parents were in the audience... and they had more fun watching the parents of those girls than they did what was on stage! *G*

There may have been some tales to tell
Most forgotten just as well
Of objects being animated
Visions self investigated
Strange encounters of the mind
Back there then now left behind
But who's to say that this we call
The "Real World" is at all ?

Whoa....Walt...you got me thinking back this morning! *LOL*
I was a little kid in the 60's...but I have some great memories from those years. Like the fact that my mom threw out our couch and we made huge pillows instead...one dalmation spotted, one tiger striped, and one leopard spotted. The carpet was red, and the curtains were zebra striped. It had to be the ugliest living room ever! ROTFLMAO
But we sure had a good time...stayed up late every Saturday night to see Wolfman Jack on the Midnight Special!

Took me back, walt.... to a couple of days ago... whoops... i mean a coupla of years ago... geez... a coupla decades ago! Drat... short term memory loss sucks. What's that ya say? Whaddya mean you didn't say anything...LOL... oh sorry, that was just some lingering voices in my head! Loved the poem, walt... and you, Toe, pretty darn vivid description!

Hey, anybody remember any great concerts? I can think of a few I went to see -- the Who, the Stones (5 times), the Dead (about 3-4 times, can't remember), Janis Joplin (sipped from her southern comfort bottle... she was TOO cool), Allman Brothers, Eagles, Jeff Beck, 10 Years After, Chicago, Jefferson Airplane/Starship (can't remember their name at the thyme), and PINK FLOYD (best concert I ever went to... fabulous! what theatre!) oh and HAIR at the National Theatre in DC (whoops, not a concert), Guys and Dolls in NY... geesh LOTs of theatre... what does theatre have to do with this...never mind..

ummm...can't remember other concerts right now.. there were many! Missed Hendrix, darn it! And the Doors... loved Jim Morrison! Wish like hell I got to see both of them! Oh and never went to Woodstock, btw... all my friends went.. I was too young (14).. parents wouldn't let me go!

This year of 2000 I hope to go see Phish, Counting Crows, Train (GREAT new band... check 'em out!) and hopefully a couple more, maybe Days of the New.. heard they were coming to town...

Oh, saw Tom Principato like 10 times last year for any guitar buffs around... he's one of the greatest... not so well known to some, but y'oughta ck him out!

God bless you guys! Happy New Year! Keep writing those cool hippie poems, walt!
