My Friend

Those eyes burn so bright,
Gleaming with sheer devotion,
As if with the switch of a light,
You are truly a wonderous creation,

Watchful protector of mine,
Asking only for love,
And giving in kind,
Warmth flows as if from heaven above,

Total loyalty is what you boast,
All just for love and care,
And an understanding human host,
Together our love we will share.

Yes Georgia the subject of this poem is my loyal German Shepard---I guess I should have made that a stronger statement. Anyway, thanks for your comments and for the question.

Richard...this is absolutely beautiful. Aren't animals wonderful. They give of their heart and ask for nothing in return...too bad we can't say the same for most humans

Being an animal lover myself, this poem was very cute!

That's my goal in life... To be the person my (departed) pet believed me to be. I'll never in this life have such love and devotion as was shown by Muskrat. We can learn much from them.

Nice poem ;-)

I believe in this kind of friendship even from humans! Would that it could be so...

HM3---I am of the opinion that your dog is without a doubt one of the best friends you will have. Thank you for reading.

Poet--Unfortunately in today's world, at times I am of the opinion that if we acted as innocently as the K-9, we humans would re-enforce love and friendship among us. Thanks for your thoughts.

An animal can bring a whole new sense of life to your world. In my case, my little maltese is what helped my healing process the most after my divorce, no counselor in the world could have done what she has for me...I love your poem!

Oh thank you, Tamara. It is very true the comfort, companionship and joy they can bring to an individual. Especially during periods of depression. So happy you enjoyed
