THE CLOCK

Time is in each second ticking
Tapping out the throbbing pain
Til I see you it keeps ticking
With each puttering drop of rain

No sadder sound to pierce the night
Than is the ticking of a clock
It beats the rhythm of my heart
And with my pulsing interlocks

Ever ticking, ever beating
Like a drum into my brain
Every sound of every second
Ever spelling out your name

Unrelenting is the pounding
Sobbing sounding as I weep
Incessantly the clock keeps time
Perturbing mind, disturbing sleep

Ticking, ticking, beating, beating
Never a melody it plays
Never a lyric to the chorus
Never a song to light my days

The clock ticks every daylight hour
Time is slowly passing by
And every night becomes forever
In its haunting lullaby

Whispered ticking, whispered heartache
Tick....tick....tick....tick
Whispered draft across my cheek
In burning of each candle wick

Ah yes, time, the ever present, ominous ticking, slows when you'd like it to speed, and speeds when you'd like it to slow.

Elizabeth,
Each word does tick upon my clock
But I have no key to turn the lock.
Your poetry is so beautiful.
Love ya Sy

Thank you all for your comments. This is not my favorite poem, but I posted it anyway.
Thank you.
Liz

Sy,
I know not of a key you need
If signs and signals you would heed
I listen still the sound of clock
But lock has always been unlocked
Thanks for your compliment
Love ya
