For my friend...with all my understanding.

Angelo's Window

Tonight there's someone out there
sitting all alone
Needing to hear the voice
of the one who loves him so

He's gazing out the window
thinking of her face
Wishing he were in
Another time and place

Duty keeps him bound
to a life he can't abide
His heart taken for granted
His kindness pushed aside

He ponders on another life
with one who understands
She accepts his love so gratefully
Makes him feel like a man

He knows that there are many years
of waiting left in store
He smiles at the thought of
his little children so adored

He cannot leave them now
His soulmate understands
She always puts them first
and waits to hold his hand

Though he knows it isn't fair
to ask her to wait for years
She says she will stand by him
and tells him not to fear

He prays the time is soon
when they can be together
When he can revel in her heart
and cherish her forever

He looks once more out the window
In the glass he sees her face
The woman he will always love
and her heart of patient grace

This is beautiful!

Very lovely, very true.  And above all, it's one word description: beautiful.

How did you manage to hide so well outside my window and read my thoughts so well?

Excellent work, Caroline.

Thank you all for your lovely responses...I wrote this while thinking of a friend who cannot be where he wants to be at this time. He is a wonderful person caught in a sad situation. I hope someday his dreams come true, as he deserves the best.

Certainly there are many kinds of prisons - one's own mind, love, desire, guilt, fear, bars ... and you have done an excellent job describing a situation which could be applied to many sets of circumstances!
