Blanket of the Night

I felt the blanket of the night
Wrap around my inner soul
It warmed the essence of the dark
And kept away the damp and cold

I tasted food of life's delight
It filled the emptiness inside
And chased the hunger from my door
A craving for content's abide

I savored wine of purity
Of clean and crisp and new refresh
It woke the spirit, mind and heart
And flowed throughout my weary flesh

I drank the herb of loveliness
Medicinal leaves of mind's desire
It opened windows of the brain
To aesthetic notions of inspire

I bathed in water of the font
It cleansed the care from off my chest
The fingers touched my waiting shell
Immersing skin in soft caress

All this did happen late one night
I chanced upon a poet's name
And trembled at his wondrous verse
And I would never be the same

Elizabeth Santos

Comments such as these from three poets such as these, Ruth, Marge, and Michael, make me shiver. You are all so kind. Thank you

Elizabeth,
Your poem is absolutly exquisite.
And this is my first visit
For my computer was on the fritz again
And Dr norton did not say if or when
It would be well enough to do its stuff.
If your poem was about me or mine,
I would like to get off cloud nine.
For you fly so far above my writing
comparing them is like a ufo sighting.
Of cource your clever weave does decieve,
It might be another in recieve.
If that's the case my face is red.
and I think I'll just go back to bed.
Love ya.
Sy

Sy,
No need to blush, unless by chance
Your modest heart decides to dance
You under rate your talents so
I am the one who flies below
But truth is in the verse above
It's you, of course, the Poet Dove
Love ya,
Liz

Pepper,

Not writing poems, but sitting near
Whatever thought or poem we dare
We know that Pepper's always there
Thanks, dear

I echo praises
With the rest-
Of all your work,
I like this best
A mural of poetic art
But more than that
it shows in part
A glimpse of your
Impassioned heart.

Elizabeth,
The beauty of your poetry
Has me hanging from a tree.
And the tree is called inadequacy.
For your poem has openned a soul to view
And the sight within is beyond my coup
It is in my view an epopee.
And I thank you for the latch key.
Love Sy

I wonder if you could elaborate on that response. I wonder how it does?
Thanks for reading

Liz

another outpouring divine
from a passioned pen
it leaves me quite supine
and has me hoping when
if your writing ceases ever
I'll state such dreadful day as 'never'

Fantastic as usual dear friend.

Sy,
Would you please come down from that tree
And write some verse of poetry
For I never meantioned in the rhyme
'Twas you that taught me all this time
I have learned so much from you
Except one thing and this is true
Your vocabulary is beyond my reach
That is something you can't teach
And you are so much wiser too
And this I cannot learn from you
But know, dear poet, your way ahead of me
So please do come down out of that tree!
LOve ya,
Liz

He is it's true, a Poet Dove
With talent soaring high above
A plane he thinks he shan't achieve;
With his humility he can't conceive
How wonderful the verse he shares
and each of us - how much we care.....

Luv ya, Sy.....

Nan,

Thank you for saying those things which I've told Sy so many times. His poetry has a  brilliance and an aesthic beauty, a lightness of verse, and a lyrical quality unlke any one I've known, and then add a phenominal store of words and there you have a brilliant poet. But he is a humble man, and perhaps will never recognize his talent, but I certainly hope that his work will be published some day. Thank you, Nan
Hugs,
Liz

Someone very wise told me they see Sy in my poetry, and I believe that's true. Thank you for your comments, but I have an outstanding teacher.

I'm so glad I found this poem--missed it the first time around--too busy with flowers.  So many words of praise dear Liz and all of them deserved.  You are extraordinary!

In the dew of little things,
the heart finds its morning
and is refreshed.
