It is with sorrow beyond words that I tell Toe's poetry family that he passed away this morning. He and his buddy Balladeer finally get to meet... which means there's sure to be laughing in heaven.
Down here, the tears flow. He was one of my dearest friends and more and will be missed all my remaining days.
He was hoping to return to these blue pages soon. I wish he'd had that chance. It is our loss that he didn't.
Rest in peace, sweet man.

I will remember him with a big smile on my face, as he could make me laugh in the worst of times, and in the best too.  Although I am saddened by the immense loss of a friend, I hope he has indeed found his ole buddy Balladeer by now, and they are creating havoc in heaven.  Lord help them!

If I may?  Suthern, you and I wrote this way back when for Toerag:

I am so sorry to hear this Ruth. He was a lovely man, I adored both his sense of humour as well as his sensitive side. He will be missed.

Oh, my goodness, Ruth!  I read your message in my letter to Cleo, I came rushing to find out about your news!  My tears are flowing too!  I am shocked and so very, very sorry to hear this, but as you say, Toe's suffering is over and he will be with Balladeer now.  Big hugs.

Really sorry to hear this.  Reading Toerags poetry and his banter was a pure delight and brightened my days on many occasions.  I mean his pen name makes me smile warmly. The one and only!!!

Rest in peace good poet.

Thank you all for your kind responses. A special thanks to Mysteria - that poem inspired me to go through the archives. Reading through tears isn't easy, but I treasured every word and memory - and copied some of his poems to give to his kids.

His memorial service will be in his sweet home Alabama at 2 pm Saturday afternoon. It's at a private home so I won't post the address - but if anyone wants the info, feel free to email me.

As my best friend is now at rest
I think of how much I've been blessed
To know his smile, enjoy his wit
To feel the tender, see the grit.

Some times were good, others were tough
No time with him would be enough.
Now heaven's gates are open wide
And that sweet man has stepped inside.

A lonely heart recalls good times,
Hands hold pictures, eyes re-read rhymes.
Dear Toe, I know this much is true
As long as I live, I'll miss you.

your suthern belle

He and MM used to have some entertaining 'squabbles'. Both are missed, but the loss of them will be the gain in perhaps another forum currently inaccessible to ourselves.

Adios Toe.

Dear Ruth ~

How sorry I am to have missed this sad announcement when you first posted it. My heart goes out to you and all others who loved (and were loved by Toe). He made me smile often. When Toerag were on a roll, well, I just got out of the way and watched. They often made me belly laugh.  The halls of PiP have been quieter without them. I think of you, sweet friend.

With love,
Alison

Thank you, Bluesy and effjayel. I'd always hoped that Toe and Deer could meet in person - and swore I'd sell tickets if that ever happened.   It is some comfort to know those pals have heaven laughing... because I'm sure even angel wings wouldn't stop their antics.

Alison: Thank you, dear lady. I think of you, too! I came to this place loving one member - but I've come to love so many more.

His love is here - for you, for Michael, for friends, for poetry and laughter. I am so thankful that I shared in a tiny bit of Toe's history here. Heard his voice. Heard his smile. And, Ruth, I am so thankful for you.

So sorry to hear this and that I'm late in seeing it. Really enjoyed Toe's poetry and giving him a hard time. It won't be the same without he and Mike here to entertain everyone. R.I.P. My friend.

Thank you so much, my friends. I'm sorry I'm so late responding, but I tend to pop in only for a few minutes every now and then. I think Deer and Toe took my muse with them... and these pages hold so many memories it hurts to visit.

But I do thank you all.

And I thank Ron for creating this place. It gave my dear Toe such joy... and such beloved sparring buddies. I loved it so much I suffered withdrawal (and usually pitched a suthern hissy fit LOL) every time my computer refused to cooperate. We laughed more than we wrote - then wrote and read and laughed some more. Nan probably went into debt buying erasers... I should send her a check!

I will always be grateful for the words I've read and the friends I met here.

Having written an entire series on grief, I thought I'd deal with it better... but that's what a blonde gets for thinking. But I do appreciate each and every one of you, even as I miss those who - as Bluesy put it so well - are now accessing a forum beyond these eyes.

Oh dear, I haven't been here for such a long long time. So sad to read that Toerag passed away too. I have been sitting in the front row so often when Toerag and Balladeer fought their poetical fights. I miss both of them.

How weird...Ive been absent from these hallowed walls of blue for way too long. After years of trying I finally found my way in and to learn not just about my dear friend Toe, I learn Balladeer went on ahead. I recall many happy hours of transatlantic banter with these guys and Seawasham and one of the first of my witterings I re read was this joust featuring two of the mist awesome guys to draw breath...
