Mommy Muys will be 100 years old on August 24. That is if she's still with us by that time. She's not doing very well, she lost her spirit to live and doesn't like it anymore to get this old. She's confined to her bed, she can't walk by herself anymore, so she's dependent of other people and she doesn't like that a bit. Her appetite has gone to almost zero, she only eats some puddings, drinks coffee and some apple juice and she's getting some high energy drink to at least get some calories inside. She's watching her tv and sleeps a lot. She has her bad days and her good days and I visit her as much as possible or talk to her on the phone. I hope she just won't wake up anymore one day. It would be nice if she would be still there on August 24, but if not, that's ok with us too. She says: I'm not getting approvel yet from above to throw in the towel, but I wish they would make up their mind, because getting this old isn't funny anymore. One good thing happened though: My sister's daughter, who took on the last name of our dad, got a baby boy and named him after my dad, so we have another Synco Schram de Jong in the family. They will come to visit my mom as soon as she is able to travel with her baby. I know it's still one month to go, but if you would want to sent my mom a birthday card now, I just know she would be thrilled, she likes getting cards, whe stick them to the wall next to her bed. What a beautiful and compassionate post of yours, dutchie. We have followed Mommy Muys exploits for so long that we are all family with her. I, too, wish that the end comes peacefully and without pain for her....and I hope it doesn't come for a while, as long as any quality of life remains. Please give her my very best... |

Your post touched a very soft spot in my heart. I prayed and waited with my mom to pass on when her struggle to live became overwhelming. Although I didn't want to be without her, I prayed she would go soon and easily for her benefit. God's timing is always right. Prayers for your mom and all of you. Rae |
