Rae, our Sandgrain, who is our dearly departed Rebecca (Whtdove's Mom,) has had the worst winter with medical issues hitting her from all directions.  Her husband has been in and out of intensive care, and she was looking after him when he was home.  He was back in the hospital, but is now home again.  Now she has managed to get pneumonia and they wanted her to go into the hospital, but nope, she decided she was needed at home for Ray.  I am sure she got sick from going back and forth in the awful weather they have had and trying to keep up with all the demands on her, which she doesn't mind.  She did end going to the hospital and now the both of them are home, with a nurse coming several times a week to change her husband's dressings.

Sandgrain is always the first to pray for those needing it in our "Blue Pages", and now she could use some for herself.

I will sure send my positive energy down to them both in the hopes that they get better, and stay better. I hope you will join me in wishing them both well.

Rae, someone that can advocate for you needs to contact Hospice for the moment, if you have one in your area. Hospice doesn't only tend to those who are near their end, they can also help in difficult times such as this. Ask your physician if there is someone in your area who might be able to intercede. There are also volunteer groups, like Meals on Wheels and such, they might be able to help you out.

My prayers are with you.

Mys, thank you for bringing Raes problems home to us.

Rae and Ray,

my prayers go out to both of you, as they did with Rebecca, and all others here who are facing hard times and illness. You have always been there for me selflessly. You are a fine woman, Rae, and I'm sure Ray is a great man! I'm sure God will take care.

*hugs*
Dixie

Dixie, I could not agree with you more.  The load that she carries is unbelievable and she does it at her age!  She truly is my inspiration!  They do it together, and that is the secret of their success.  God will be good to these two, that I know for sure.  Her heart always has room for everyone, and I mean everyone.  Their faith will see them through.

Rae, Becky would want you to do what the doctors tell you to do. And she would pray night and day for you -she was one of God's angels that way.

You are in my thoughts and prayers and I hope you have a complete and speedy recovery.

Well there they are, him still with a machine draining fluid from his surgery, and her with pneumonia, swollen feet, and still she managed to send me an update email.  They were snowed in, and their neighbours came to dig them out so at least they can get to the doctor for appointments, the nurse can get in to change dressings, and tend to Ray!  When she heard that their "snow guy" couldn't come, the neighbours offered to do it, but the gas was empty on the snow blower.  The gas can was of course in a shed over a huge 7' snow drift.  Rae got her coat on to go get the gas, and thank GOD the neighbour stepped in, and fetched it for her.

When I think of complaining, these two are truly an inspiration.  Each day lately is a challenge for them, but they meet it head on, no complaints, and do the best with whatever that day gives them.  I have learned so much from them.  They always have room in their hearts for everyone else in their own time of need.  This was her final comment, with her feet up, she is priceless:
quote:
It's hard to type with my feet up on a chair beside the keyboard.  Guess I should just try putting it on my lap, huh?

Prayers gratefully still accepted, as these two, as strong as their determination is, both need a little help from their friends.

Thank you so much everyone!  I'm moved near tears at the kind generosity of all the support and prayers.  It means more than you'll ever know. Especially, Sharon who sends me these beautiful uplifting stories, pictures and funnies to keep me smiling.

Today's doctor appointment showed the pneumonia is still there, so another round of antibiodics and check back next week for a chest x-ray to see if it's gone.  The rhuematologist I saw yesterday said he can offer some help for my auto immune disease, but I first have to get this pneumonia cleared up.  I'm hopeful.

Ray's doctor felt his wound was coming along well today when he saw him, so I'm very thankful for that.  It's been a problem since August and he's had 2 surgeries on it, so this point is long overdue.

Thanks so much again, and say a prayer for Sharon's leg problem, too.  Okay?

Love & God bless,
Rae

That's lovely news, Rae (except for the pneumonia still being there)!  Prayers for you, Rae, and Ray and Mysteria's leg.  Thanks Mysteria for letting us know.

Yesterday I saw the doc again as my badly swollen feet were weeping.  He prescribed a something to take the water off, and I got a clear chest X-ray.  Pneumonia's cleared.  Thank God for answering all your prayers.  Now I pray this water pill will do it's thing.

Ray just returned from his doctor's visit and his groin wound healing is coming along. He doesn't need to return for 2 weeks now and probably needs the v.a.c. machine on only that long or possibly 3 weeks.

Things are looking up.  I feel stronger and can breathe easier now.  I'll see the rheumatologist on Valentine's Day for treatment of my auto immune (dermatomyositis) muscle and skin problem.

Sure would be nice to get on the mend here and find life beyond medical. ;-)

Thanks again to each of you.
God bless,
Rae (& Ray)

It does sound, my dear, as if things are being swept from your body, from top to bottom. That is sometimes how things work. Do keep up on your meds and do be aware of what you eat, especially things that contain salts and such. Also be aware of keeping your potassium up as water and other weights leave your system. I'm keeping you in my prayers.

Love, K

Rae, Karilea's advice sure sounds good and well-informed and well worth taking.  I am glad that things seem to getting to a point where they will turn a corner with a view of things other than hospitals and doctors and nurses.  May you and Ray soon be free to walk amongst the flowers.

Again, thank you all so much!  Yes, I believe in healthy eating.  We rarely eat any prepared foods..I cook from scratch.  Yes, have to get some bananas to boost that potassium up, and I haven't eaten anything salty or sweet for a few weeks.  Thanks much for the advice and precautions.
The last few days I've been able to reach my arms over my head again so can reach the closet rods and 2nd shelves in the cabinets, and wash my hair easier.  I've had such ambition, I've cleaned up a ton of neglect around here.  Still have to try to remember to get my feet up now and then as they still swell a lot.
I didn't see the rheumatologist that day, it was only for a bone density check, which I did.  I'll see him on March 7th.

Thanks again for all the support and prayers.  That means so much.  I pray we're n the mend for the long haul now.

God bless,
Rae

Dear Rae, this thread makes me want to reach out with a long tender hug for you. Oh my, such tribulations! I have been away, but I guess it is never too late to join in prayer.
May you and Ray fully recover and enjoy your life again, while looking forward to Spring.

All my love, prayers and hugs, as well as gratitude for your kind generosity towards us pipsters.

Believe me, I do feel all your hugs.  Last night I was actually in bed for 5 hours, most of which I slept.  Haven't slept that long in a few months.
The sewer back-up we experienced Saturday in our basement, has now been cleaned up and disinfected. The plumber found tree roots in the sewer lines.  How happy I am to have that done.
Our son is driving to IL from CA in April to spend a little time with us.  While he's here I want to get our whole family together.  His 2 children and 3 grandsons will not be coming from CA, but hopefully our 2 daughters & spouse, 7 grandchildren & spouses and 8 or 9 great grandchildren will come.  April 8th is the due date for the arrival of our 12th great grandchild and our get together is April 10th, so will that one arrive in time to make it, or come that soon after birth?  This will be the parents 4th child.  I pray God will keep me well enough to do this.
Thank you all for your kind thoughts and prayers.  I definitely  believe they are being answered through God's grace.

Oh, my goodness, dear Rae & Ray! You both certainly have been having more than your fair share of trials and tribulations! I'm glad to hear that you are both back on the road to recovery and that you will soon be surrounded by the love and company of your son and his family.

God bless you all!
Sending lots of love and healing hugs,
Linda xo
