My daughter will graduate US Coast Guard basic training the end of Sept, and will be stationed on the coast of Oregon.
I will be re-locating by the first week of October, to my favorite place! Rockaway Beach/Garibaldi, just north of Tillamook,
Oregon (known for great cheeses). Garibaldi and Rockaway sunsets and rainbows...WOW, and lots of wind!! (the Spring kite festival!)
We thought she would be stationed out of Seattle, (Puget Sound and the coast) but they apparently need her in Oregon, right on the coast I love so dearly.

Oh, Kacy girl, I am so happy for you.  I love the Oregon coast.  It's one of the most beautiful and exciting places in the world.

Alison, it's like a dream come true, though daughter Sara's first choice was Seattle, she knew they'd send her where they needed her most. So this will be her assigned area for at least 6 months, possibly longer.

For me, I will gladly sink these toes into the sands of Oregon! It will be further for me to drive to the Portland area cancer clinic and doctors...but I don't mind!

You got that right! Though she will be out on the water a lot, probably on a small lifeboat rescue team sometimes in very heavy surf, rescuing tourists and fishermen from boats in trouble, hauling them back to safety.
Garibaldi....wow, I lived there for 6 months in 1980!

More happy smiles and prayers for your safe journey and wonderful new life there.  How far is the Portland cancer clinic from there and how long will it take you to get there?

Hi everyone!
Diana, Portland is around 1.5 hours drive from Garibaldi, depending upon weather conditions.

Hi Kacy... I'm so glad you are moving to a place that you love.  I've lived on the Oregon coast for years, and I love it, too!  Only I am on the southern OR coast.  I have been to Garibaldi a time or too, though.  You are going to be a busy woman in the next few weeks.  I'll be looking for you again soon, and I might even get to meet you!

According to the Ramones, Rockaway Beach is in NY... I hope you don't end up in the wrong place!!!
lol
Have a safe move, and let us know when you get there.

Karen, that would be great, to meet you!
The entire coastline is a fun drive, I've done it in one day from Astoria to Coos Bay.

Ringo, there is a Rockaway on the east coast as well. But MY Rockaway Beach is definitely on the Pacific coastline. Thanks for visiting.

I lived close enough to Oregon that I have no excuse to having not have it on my travel tours [except I didn't have travel tours back then.]

So, it, and Washington, is still a space and place I wish to visit some day! IF you are still there, will you let me visit?

Anytime, lady Sunshine! The kite festival is in mid May, but the stunning sunsets are year round.

I like cheese, and tax-free shopping!   Whoo Hooo, and monsters, and trees, and crashing waves, yada yada.   You are completing the circle Kacy, back to where you belong.

I may just find you down there sooner than you think.

Congrats to Sara too, what an accomplishment.

There isn't much happening on the coast until Spring, early summer. PORTLAND is great fun all year long, with much to do.
April/May/early June are great for rainbows and sunsets, without the July-Sept tourist crowds. From Astoria to Coos Bay, there are spectaclular views of the Pacific and (dwindling)forests.
The entire Olympic peninsula (WA) is well worth visiting in early-mid summer. But then, you have BC...which is just as spectacular and so much fun.
I really enjoy hanging out in Victoria!

Yes, I'm very proud of Sara

Yay! This is wonderful news, Kacy! (does happy dance)

There truly is no place like Oregon. I believe every state is resplendent and appealing in its own way, but Oregon by far inspires me more than any other state. Really, I've always likened Oregon to the littler sibling who doesn't quite fit in sandwiched in-between two much taller siblings (Washington and California). Despite the fact that Portland, for instance, is even more cutting-edge than both San Francisco and Seattle in terms of eco-architecture, alternative transportation, strong land use laws and creative expression, among other things..........San Francisco and Seattle incessantly steal the show in terms of the headlines. Thus it comes to no surprise, to me anyway, why Portland was just voted the "Most Underrated City" (as well as "Cleanest City") in America by TripAdvisor!

I certainly hope we finally get to meet soon! (does happy dance)

XOXO,
Noah Eaton

I'm so happy for you, Kacy and a little envious as I wouldn't mind moving there myself. Last time I traveled to Oregon I took my granddaughter on a tour of the Tillamook Cheese factory and we had some of their delicious ice cream. Congatulations to Sara.
                              Happy Hugs,

Bobby, I've got your number with me in case I have a 'Philly' problem...
GRIN, I will be coming to Philly from Cape May this Friday night/Sat AM. My daughter will fly to PDX, I am taking Amtrak.
(I prefer 3 days on trains than three airports in one day )

Noah, Yes, it is an underrated city. I love Portland, spent many hours at Powells getting 'lost' in all those floors of books.
Catch ya downtown soon.

Ida, they do make yummy cheese and ice cream! I'll eat some for you

Helen, good luck on that job lead, Helen!

Dear Jo, sad to say we had to eliminate the DC visit, several reasons.

Martie, thanks for saying hello! Rockaway Beach is a bit magical for me.
