Happy New Year to everyone! I hope that you all have a happily memorable 2009 in whatever way each of you needs and wants.

I don't seem to be able to receive emails (or at least not easily). I sent myself 2 and got one back many hours later, and received one other one (not the other one I sent myself) late this afternoon. I have been having Internet connection problems and don't know whether that is the reason why I am not able to receive emails(although with a borrowed ADSL cable until I can buy one on Monday or soon after, it seems to be better) or whether it is because it is New Years' Day and the networks are very busy and if so whether it is a worldwide problem, or a South African one - or simply an Owl one.

Could somebody tell me if they are having similar problems?

I wondered about you and sent you an e-mail, but you did not reply, so I guess you did not receive it.
Hope you will be able to solve the problems quickly.

Thanks, Margherita. I have emailed you and sent it (minutes ago), but don't know whether it will arrive. If it doesn't, please will you let me know here. However, I received the 2 email notifications of your message here and your response to my poem, so perhaps whatever it was, is all sorted out (but I still haven't received the first email I sent myself today).

I've received your emails, honey, and I'd be answering, but if you check PiPTalk Lounge, you'll see I have my fingertips involved in a [hopefully] wonderful supper for my hubby and me to start the New Year off right!

I've still three days before I return to work...expect a long email!

I'm not doing much keyboarding this week, as my fingers hurt from side effect of one of the Chemo drugs I take on Tuesday. It takes about three or four days for the symptoms to go away...meanwhile, numbness and tingling, pressure and cold sensitive to the point I cannot handle anything cold or type too long. Thank goodness my daughter is here to assist me in the kitchen!!!
Anyway, hope you get your email straightened out soon!

Thanks, Karilea.  I hope the dinner turned out wonderfully - just worried about your being on your feet for so long (and your returning to work so soon after the op) - or did you do the cooking in the wheelchair? - will go into Lounge later today - we have been given the day off, but my boss may phone me if he needs me and I have to take my printer in to a place across town that is open today.  I am looking forward to the long email.  I am relieved you got mine.  There are definitely at least 2 emails that have been sent to me that I haven't received.  I hope there aren't any others as I would hate people to think I am not replying and I would also hate not to get whatever is said in them.

Thanks, Kacy.  I didn't know that chemo affected fingers as well.  Gosh, you have a lot to contend with, but your spirit is such motivation to all of us and I am SO glad you have it, because that is one of the most important things that will pull you through all of this.  Please give Sara a huge hug from me for looking after our Kacy so well.

I am going to buy a new network cable and a new telephone cable (now that I have a few cents to rub together) as soon as the necessary shops are open and I hope that will sort out my intemittent (but more off than on) Internet and email problems that I have had for over a year or so.

This is my second attempt at making this entry.  just before I pushed the button to post it, I got cut off AGAIN!

I bought the 2 cables, and, although I needed them anyway, as the previous ones were not firmly attached, they haven't made an iota of difference to my getting online or fixing the noise on my telephone line - and I have to phone Telkom every time I want to get online (or lose my connection).

However, I (note "I" - not any of the many technicians who has come here in the last year or so) have discovered a raw wire sticking out of an immovable cable.  I have reported it and a technician should be phoning me this afternoon and coming to fix it either today or next Saturday.  I hope THAT will sort out the problem, but I have my doubts, but I am living in hope.
