Hi to all.
Larry, daughter Sara is doing fine, will start a job locally the end of Dec, and is a great helper at home, preparing meals and shopping, helps keep my mood elevated just by being here with me.
We are expecting a big snow storm today and again Sun, so looks like a white Christmas is on our menu!

Just popping in to read the new messages, especially yours, Kacy.  Please thank Sara from me, for being Sara - but being YOUR daughter, I am not suprised what an angel she is.  I am delighted that she is starting a new job locally.  I know that you are both wise enough to have made a plan for while she is at work.

Thank you Martie, Tracie, Owl, Marge,Jaime and Karilea...and all the others who have visited this thread with well wishes.

Yesterday was my long Chemo day, 10AM-530PM. One of the drugs leaves my fingertips numb and tingling, extremely cold sensitive. Since the thermometer is again barely 18F today, so I'm staying indoors...which is awful since I love to be outside. I'm able to be at the computer for about 15 minutes at a time before my fingers become pressure sensitive. In addition, there is the nausea and the fact the immune system takes a hit, requiring additional supplementation of drugs and vitamins.

So far, my blood tests every Monday show I am 'holding my own' and we should do additional tests next month to determine if the current Chemo combo is slowing down the liver tumor growth. The goal of course, is to put it into remission. There is no cure, and the reality is it always returns  according to statistics.

Transplants are not an option.
But there is a 'supplemental alternative therapy component' I will begin soon, that in some cases has successfully put the tumors completely out of commission, though it takes a year or more for any results.
The old phrase 'time is of the essence' is critical when it comes to diagnosis and treatment.

I sincerely hope that all who read this make sure they follow the recommendations to have a Colonoscopy done before age 55. I just turned 63, had no symptoms until July, full diagnosis end of October...stage 4....that means the colon cancer has metastasized to other organs. What this means is, the colon polyps probably began to turn malignant 4-5 years ago.

After removing the huge mass and radical intestinal re-sectioning the end of October, and 7-8 weeks recovery, Chemo began the week before Christmas. My Chemo schedule is every Tuesday for up to 8 weeks, then a two week interval for additional tests before another round of Chemo.

Well, I apologize for being so blunt, but my intent is to 'needle' everyone into getting the diagnostics done on a timely basis. You don't want to have to endure what I am enduring, and now sadly, our dear poet Marge is suffering liver cancer as well as lung issues. Not a poetic scenario....

I had a colonscopy last week, as well as my endoscopy.

(I'd postponed it from over a year ago.)

Sheesh.

Your indomitable spirit has always made me strive to do better, and now it is inspiring me to GET better.

I love you Kacy.

Thank you dearest Kacy, for this special update.  I was refraining from emailing you until a good few days after yesterday's chemo, because, in spite of my supplications for you not to reply when you are not at your strongest, you always do.

You are a wonderful inspiration, to us all and great encouragement for Marge too.  Thank you so very, very much for being you.  I have not the slightest doubt that you and Marge are going to make it.  Your indomitable spirits shine like bright stars.  However, I know that it is a dreadful ordeal for both of you, but we are all with you every step of the way.

And, of course!  In the midst of your woes, you are thinking of EVERYONE ELSE!  That is another of the million reasons why you WILL recover.

Lots and lots of love

Hello, Sue.
Thanks for the well wishes.
At the time of my diagnosis (late Oct) I didn't have insurance to cover much of anything but a handful of blood tests. I signed up for Medicaid the day before the surgery, and had an efficient rep who rushed the paperwork through for me. They made it retroactive to Oct 1, so most of the testing and the surgery will be covered, as well as chemo...(so far as I know anyway)
I've only received one bill for just over $600, and the surgeries, tests, chemo may already be in the tens of thousands. I spent a full week in the hospital recovering from the tumor removal and colon re-section surgery, plus had a one day surgery to install a medi-port device under my collar bone for a direct chemo access that bypasses going through the veins in the arm. LOL, it looks like I have a giant bottle cap imbedded above my left breast...not very attractive. Chemo began just before Christmas, and will be an ongoing 'adventure' for the next few months.

I cannot imagine what my scenario would be if they hadn't processed the Medicaid so quickly. As my income the last 9 months has just been collecting early Social Security benefits, I qualified for full Medicaid benefits. Medicaire wouldn't have kicked in for another 2-3 years for me.

This country definitely needs an overhaul of the health care delivery system.
I am counting on President Obama and his dynamic team to turn things around for all the millions who are uninsured or under-insured, to see that everyone in this country has adequate health care coverage.

Geez Kacy, what an intensive program you are on kiddo.  I know that you know it is all in the attitude, and that lady you have, so it will be smooth sailing.  Positive energy can only bring positive results.  Hang in there, there's a bit of a drive to do yet. I can not even "think" about bills in the amounts you speak of.  I think the only bill I have had in a zadzillion years was for $15.00 for a flu shot, and I actually got that back! Here's hoping the health care down there improves.  I know Michael says our health care costs are hidden in our taxes, etc. but to be honest, I don't care where they hide them as long as I don't see a bill.

I'm going to have to ditto serenity about the "needling"...this is one procedure I haven't been through, and I'm "of age" to start it in the near future. I AM proactive on our other womanly procedures...sigh...but now is as good a time to needle the men, too...on what THEY need to do to keep themselves in good health, and/or catch the buggers before it's too late!

I'll also ditto some of the above, Kacy, when you sound so strong and active and positive about all of this. Damn, girl, but you're in my thoughts and prayers to get well soon. There IS a chance, isn't there, that this can go into remission?

Kacy,

Good luck to you with your treatment.  I just noticed this post or I would have written sooner.

Cancer is a mess.  My daughter is having trouble with breast cancer.  She's had both breasts removed, and she's having an operation today to remove her last lymph node in that area.

She's doing well, but it's a fight.

I've aready done the colonospcy thingy for myself.

Good luck with your treatments Hon.

Love Bobby

I, too, come in here daily to see how everything is going.  Kacy, it's nice to see you're biting the bullet and coping with all this chemo, etc.  Life is precious and cancer is a dirty, sneaky thief.  It's far too prevelent in our society and at best the news still means so much painful treatment to hold hope.  Thank you for being such a strong caring person.  My prayers are with you.

God bless,

Hi, Diana. Actually, I am on chemo 'vacation' next week. LOL, it's time for a short break between sessions. Unfortunately, it will take 4-6 months of this drill before the diagnostic 'marker' tests are valid that will indicate whether or not my chemo cocktail combo is making serious headway against the liver tumors.

But I keep my eyes on the future, and am making plans for 2012 ...the year of the end of the Mayan calendar.
More thoughts on this later...for now, just think about all the global environmental and economic changes.
Those with open minds will hopefully research and think about the worldwide CROP CIRCLE phenomenon. Most of these circles are REAL, not hoaxes made by a couple of idiotic bar-room drunks, and are a worldwide phenomenon that has been recorded since the 1970, especially prevalent in and around Stonehenge and other ancient sites. But they also show up in Canada, Europe, and China.
For those unfamiliar with the circles (outside lame government/media disclaimers and a seriously bad movie) please follow the research. (WHEW, I had to get that out!!)

I am feeling better today, thank you, and will continue to do what is necessary to boost my natural immune system. With all the healing energy being generated by Pipsters worldwide, there is bound to be some positive effect on this body!

Thank you for that update, Kacy.  I am sure that you are relieved to have a chemo vacation this coming Tuesday.  Is it just one Tuesday?  Thank you for staying so strong spiritually because I believe that that will help your body to recover even more than the good work of the doctors and nurses and medications and medical happenings, although those are essential as well, but without your spiritual strength, the other things wouldn't be nearly as effective.  It must be so much harder to walk your path than any of us can imagine, but we are with you every step of the way.

Gentle hugs and ever-continuous full-blast, powerpunch prayers for your continuing strong spirit and ever-increasing health

Kacy,

You are often in my thoughts.  I have been quiet but thinking of you when I am outdoors.  I know you love the outdoors.  I think of you and continue to send positive thoughts to you.  You are a strong person and I am so happy I got to meet you here in PiP.

Love,
Alison

Kacy, I hope you are doing well especially as last week was your break between sessions of chemo.  I am presuming that you will having it this Tuesday.  Is that correct?

Yes, Diana, the full long chemo session is Tuesday, basically from 9:30-5, then 4-5 days of feeling like crap afterwards. But it's the regimen I hope will throw this beast into remission.

Meanwhile? I bought some seeds, am planning my garden, designing a butterfly garden, a bird sanctuary, and a meditation space.

Alison, thank you for visiting the great outdoors for me. I really miss seeing Denali, the Aurora, and all the critters that roam freely in the interior.

Latearrival...you are never late Your visits are a welcome treat.

Thank you for the update, Kacy and for the time span of your session.  Every Tuesday that you have chemo, I have been thinking of you and praying for you from your time 9am (so 30 minutes early), but didn't realise that it went on for THAT long.  I thought it was 4 or 5 hours (even that is dreadfully long).  However, I am asleep most nights long before you finish, so I will just double the powerpunch in my prayers for the time that I am awake!  Smiles.

I am delighted that you are still working on all those wonderful plans for your garden - they sound very exciting - I wish I was there to help you and to enjoy it with you!

Lots of love and huggles

~ Kacy, yes, let us pray that the chemo will do so!

~ Now that's what I call added insurance!
