Seymour Tabin, 85, of Tamarac, Florida

Born Seymour Tabachnick in Brooklyn, NY he served in WWII as an army air force radio mechanic based in Alaska. Although he spent most of his life as a picture framer, Seymour was a prolific artist and poet, known as “Sy-the-Dauber” to his poetry friends and fans. Over his lifetime he enjoyed scuba diving, traveling the world with his beloved wife, Isabel, painting, writing, raising bonsais, action movies, nature films and an eclectic mix of books.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Isabel, children Jeffery, Kim and Faun, grandchildren Heath, Joshua, Matthew, Michael, Hannah, Caitlin, Michael and Dylan, his great-grandchildren Rachel, Alexa, Orion, Rigel and Mitchel.

Remember Me

My children will remember me
My grandchildren but distantly
After that it’s only chance
If time allows a backward glance

That is why I paint and write
To light in time a future light
To say to them I did exist
And come to them from out the mist

Light a light of distant tallow
A beacon to a distant marrow
A mind that searched as hard as theirs
To find an upward path of stairs

To help them plow the soil of thought
To drop their anchor in a port
To fly into a sky of blue
And bring about their egos coup

And even that will soon erase
As even as a pretty face

The world has lost a great man and I a valued friend.

Hugs to you, Bal...

And thank you... listening to Sy talk about Alaska during that dinner at your place is such a treasured memory. To know him was to respect and admire him... to meet him was to love him.

Isabel and his family are in my prayers... so are all those privileged to call him "friend." What a wonderful man we lost today.

I take a deeper, longer breath, then slowly stand and tread
Down darkened hall, past silent bath, then to my waiting bed.
How much darker, colder, silent, would my house forever be
Had I not known your name at least just momentarily?

Sy was one of the better things that's happened to me in the past ten years. He will be terribly missed.

Even knowing this was imminent it doesn't diminish the feeling of loss. Sy was a part of our PiP family since the 'old blue' pages and had truly grown as a poety since then. He will be missed but never forgotten. His words will live on forever.

My prayers and thoughts to you Michael, to Isabel and his family.

Heaven just got a new Poet Laureate.

Seymour Tabachnick - As a new person on the PiP boards, I won't pretend to have known him.  But, I saw his heart and the beauty of his soul in every word he wrote on these boards.  I have delved into the archives and marveled at the kindness of the man I would have loved to have known.  I can tell he was a wonderful friend, a loving family man, and that he has great heart.  I say "has" because I believe his heart remains in all who have been touched by him. Even me.

Alison

PS ~ It gives me great pleasure to read that he spent time in my home state and loved it enough to share with other people.  At least, I hope it was love that wove in his stories as he spoke about Alaska.  Knowing he was here ~ well, it makes me smile.

We held your hand until we heard the angels sing
One hand in ours, one touched upon seraphic wing,
Our grasp released to bind ethereal embrace.
We hearkened to resounds of heaven’s whispering;
We held your hand until we heard the angels sing.

I love you, Sy
and Isabel - My heart and prayers are yours today and in the days to come

Thank you, dearest Michael - Your tribute is wonderful.

Dear Mike,

I never knew Seymour Tabin.  From reading the poem, I can tell I am the less for that.  I can see he has brought out the finest in you.  For such a man as you portray, this is a tribute that must transcend its words.  My condolances to all who loved him, and especially to you, Mike.  Thank you for this fine gift to those fortunate enough to know him, and now those of us who are fortunate enough to meet him.  Yours, BobK.

Michael … I am so sorry.

My thoughts and prayers are with you, Isabel and all of Sy’s family.

From the moment I first read Sy’s beautiful poetry ... I knew I appreciated the man behind the words. The heart and wisdom that fueled his poetic thoughts onto paper daily ... were like rays of morning sunshine. Little did I know then, that I would come to truly love not only his words, but dear Sy himself.

Meeting Sy and Isabel with all of you in Cape Cod was truly a highlight of my life.  Reciting poetry together by candlelight, talking art with Sy, watching the camaraderie and true friendship between you and Sy, admiring his love and endearment with Isabel. What a trip ... such beautiful memories. They are a gift to treasure always.

Sy was a warm, loving, gentle and special … special man … he was one of the most genuine people I’ve had the pleasure to know in this lifetime.  I will miss him greatly.

Best wishes and warm {{{hugs}}} to you ‘Deer, and to Isabel and Sy’s family …
and to all of us at Passions who will miss him so dearly.

I am saddened beyond words on learning that my beloved Mr. T. has passed on. His is a bright and radiant Light and it will continue to glow in the heavens. I admired everything about him. He was also a mentor and a friend. I have been missing his daily poetic offerings of wit, charm, and wisdom.

A few years back, I kept urging him to compile some of his sonnets(well over 2,000 even at that time) into a book. When he finally agreed to do it, he sent me an illustrated copy of it. He only had a few printed up for some friends and family, but I had convinced him that he would be leaving a treasured legacy for his family. I am so pleased that he has bound compilations of his  venerable words that his family can read, enjoy, and remember him by.

Seymour, I love you. My heart aches with your leaving us. However, I know that you are in a peaceful place and still watching over your beloved family.

Use your poetic wings and fly High!

This poem is definitely a and I will hold it close to my heart. You're one in a million and will NEVER be forgotten.

God bless you and all those who are grieving your passing.

Love & Eternal Light

Angel hugs 'n kisses,

EA

Linda

I cry at the loss of this wonderful person. Having met Sy, I know the world is a far lesser place without him in it. My heart goes out to his family at this time of loss.

A poem I wrote for Sy after having met him in Cape Cod. Michael if you would could you please pass this on to dear Isabelle. A true gentleman and a scholar he was...
Ruth

A Gentleman and a Scholar (For Seymore)

His soft expressions light his face
Both eyes and smile display his grace
And yet these things are just a part
Of what makes up this poet’s heart
His words omit a subtle flair
That takes us readers unaware
In lines so rare, all wisdom’s found
In every verse, talent abounds
A gentleman he’ll always be
He’s bonded proof of chivalry
Though I’ve met plenty, you can bet
A sweeter man, I’ve never met

I am nothing special...and my name will soon be forgotten, but I've loved another with all my heart and soul, and to me,this has always been enough.~N.S

Saddened by Sy's passing as are many of us who had the privilege of touching him through his art, I am comforted by Magnus' comment in its wisdom and sentiment.  My eyes well thinking of Sy, because he genuinely touched my thought with his poetry and his comments. I always felt him smile.

He once said to me that we might meet at the shore, and perhaps we will.

My condolences to his family, and others who loved him, too.
