    dear friends & loved ones

well it's January and the festive days are through as of this writing we are still getting snow most of us who live off or partially off the grid have already learned how to manage here no matter the way the weather turns our reasons for going off the grid varied but others most often boil down to just a few some folks want the challenge of lifestyle while others do it because they can and of course there are those who were simply born here it need not be a scary experience information is in abundance and needless to say readily available

winter is here with the good the bad and the difficult I hear the skiing is fantastic thanks to a continuing snow white angel who's arriving realistically on a daily basis for those above the three thousand foot level looking towards the spring and warmer days there shouldn't be any water shortages this summer for this I as well as my livestock/pets am grateful

it's an unfortunate fact that many folks have already suffered some devastating losses both in property and in life be careful and move with caution help is miles away and may not be able to get to you slow down these are icy mountain roads a fire in the home due to carelessness can put folks in the cold or worse in a casket there are stories of loved ones ashes spread across their own farmlands and that not by request

the snow hit this last year on the heels of a thanksgiving turkey along with the high energy events coming our way through January and February it is slightly less stellar but no less interesting although it is exciting take the necessary time and plan your festivities with plenty of caution in mind it is cold snowy and beautiful bring your down clothing to fully experience what winter's here have to offer winter is anything but boring

many of us here have found how living off the grid can be very rewarding it's all about balance and maintenance moderation whatever time of year here is eternally intelligent as you continue to determine the necessary sources your going to need no matter the season come winter there's no doubt about it you make do with what's available and for us that live up here that's all about what you've planned for keep in mind too mother nature can not always be planned for be a good girl/boy scout and always be prepared everyone else stay warm and stay blessed love to all

This reminds me of my childhood in northern Wisconsin.  We lived in the country without all the modern conveniences.  I recall pumping water when the handle was white with frost. You're brave.  Thanks for sharing your eyeview.

Stay safe up there!

Certainly living in such extreme conditions requires great experience ... I wish I could hear once again the incredible silence of such a place and smell the fresh fragrance of snow ...

love
