Prayers, Please, everyone, from those of you who know of Martie.  I just got off the phone with Taylor.  Martie is in the hospital.  She had a seizure this evening, and the doctors believe she has a brain tumor.

When Taylor called me, he didn't have much more information than that.  I will gather more information as I can, and I know Taylor will call as he knows more.

For now, your prayers are what she needs.

Thank you.

Anything that touches Martie's life, touches mine in equal measure. All my love and all my thoughts and prayers are with her at this time. I hope that Tyler will be aware of all the love that pours out from the heart of Passions and that he can convey this to her.
MArtie is the most talenteed poet I have ever known personally, but way beyond that, a genuine friend, a thing that is very hard to come by these days.
LOve you, MArtie

Heard from Taylor about 10 minutes ago.

Martie has a 4 cm tumor in the right frontal lobe close to the scalp.  Martie's brother is on the scene as well, and is keeping Taylor fully apprised.

They may, or may not, take out the tumor immediately.  It will depend on a few other factors.  According to what Taylor has learned, the tumor is "calcified and slow growing".  This sounds very similar to what my husband underwent a few years ago, and I know now for Martie, as I knew then for my husband, that you will all surround Martie with prayers.

From all accounts, this tumor is benign.  The doctors say that the tumor has been there "for some time".  The seizure was natures way of waking everyone up to the fact that the tumor is there.

Martie is currently at the Kaiser Hospital in Los Angeles.  Taylor is extremely thankful for everyone, as he knows very well that it was prayer that pulled him through when he was undergoing his cancer and subsequent treatment, not to mention the assistance of the doctors, and the support of his friends and family.

Taylor said he would be calling me as he learns more.  I have both of my cell phones with me, and I will update all of you as we hear more.  Martie is rallying from the seizure, and her first concern is, of course, that Taylor get some rest.

Thank you all for responding.  I know Martie is in good hands.

God bless every one of you.

It is good that the doctors have found the source of her seisure ~ now they can fix the problem! I am relieved that they believe that it is benign and to learn that it is not deep in the brain but is near the surface for easier access.

This must be so frightening for Martie and I am sending her my love, strength, comfort and prayers for healing.

As I am in the process of packing and moving again, (unexpectedly) I may not have many chances to be online during the next week or two. But a mutual friend here at Pips will keep me posted.

It is so very sad hearing this. Of all the people I've had the pleasure to meet on this site Martie has to be the nicest and kindest of them all. I'm wishing her the very best to get through this. As the doctors said, it could have been the body's way of letting someone know that something needed taking care of. In that case, this would be considered a blessing, an event to prevent disaster down the road. That's a good thing...

Thinking of you, Martie

I also just want to add my prayers for one of the sweetest, kindest, most caring people I think I have ever met.  I am glad they got the tumor now and have it controlled, and look forward to reading good news.  Hang in there Taylor, Martie has angels all around her as you know, and tons of prayers, and love pouring in from around the globe.

Martie, please get better quickly.  I will be praying for you very, very hard non-stop.  I had to struggle to read all the messages because of the tears streaming down my face and my sobs.  Thank you so much Midnitesun for the email letting me know where to find out more.  Thank you Sunshine for putting the message up.  Thank you also for the update and the future ones that I know you will put up.  Thank you for reassuring us that the news seems to be a little less terrifying than first thought.

Love and hugs and prayers, prayers and more prayers for you and all of your family.  As Sunshine says, you are in good hands - what with God, angels, Taylor, your family and all of us all working on your recovery.  When you come out of hospital, don't come back online too soon.  You will need lots of rest.

As soon as I know more, I will post again.  For our newest members who are just getting to know us?  You are reading heart, here.  Heart, and Soul, and deep, profound acknowledgement of what every person at Passions has to Life.

This is excerpted from “Sense And Serendipity In The Garden Of Earthly Delight,” a duet written with this beautiful soul, Martie my Lady of the Sky:

Love is not fragile
it's just that we cling,
thinking that we need another to be complete
when it is within ourselves,
this goal to meet,
and love is built so often as a book
on the pages and the leaves
that to know it,
though standing in plain sight,
takes sifting kernels
from the sheaves of whim;
how we survive love never puzzles me,
long ago I realized I am
instead completely devoid of reason
when life continues in the aftermath
of love's demise.

Just as all of life
becomes grist for the mill of time,
our hopes and dreams,
the chaff that streams out
into the currents in the storms of life,
bearing lovers' stories,
so fragile
that a single thought turned on edge,
hurled into the whorl,
accelerated by the winds of our beliefs,
our make believes,
will smash or be smashed
inevitable collisions
on the paths of soaring leap.

The poem is too long to post here, but may be read by any interested at: /main/forumdisplay.cgi?action=displayarchive&number=82&topic=000334

I came online quickly this morning before I go in to the office to read the latest news of your recovery (which I know will take place and be complete, although you will need to take things very carefully for a while), and even before I got on to PiP Announcements, there were 4 emails from wonderful Pipsters waiting for me from Kathleen, Karilea, Ed and Nancy to update me about you.  You see how important and loved you are, Martie!  The emails and the new messages on Announcements were so hard to decipher from behind my tears, but don't think for a moment that my tears are diluting my prayers, because they aren't.  I know that what God and prayers did for Taylor and Linda Dowd, they will do for you.  I know that Taylor will pass on our love and care for such a wonderful person as our Martie.  Feel loved by us all, because you are.  You will be in my prayers and thoughts continually wherever I am today and until long after you have healed.

Loving hugs and meeows and woofs

The flower lady has seen these before,
"Imperfections" if that be the right word,
To personify as evil, natures mars.

From distance, I ask
What worlds come to view
In the dim of human coma?

Are Scenes the same as seen
By tulip petal flaws, as bumps
That dwell in vaults, beneath locks?

Only possessors
Of these blemishes,
Can know for sure.

She has been there before,
In that place awake, asking
Flowers to hear her prayers
Connecting flesh to fiber
Seeing all as inseparate
Knowing that the petals
Will say a mantra back.

Now we, by lack of other ways
Use means of words, dot the I's
And cross the t's to join
The flowers in poetic prayers,
For her return, to us and they.

~*~

Thank you, Ford.

I have called the hospital [too early to be connected to her room] but did confirm she is still there.  I then left a message on Taylor's phone.  I'm sure he is either resting, or in a location where he is not allowed to use his cellphone.

As soon as I know something more, I will be here to update each and every one of you.  Thank you for the emails, for contacting those who may not yet have seen announcements, etc.

Martie and Taylor will benefit from all of your thoughts, and prayers.

Warm hugs to all...

still loving, still crying
just waiting, another morning to come
for were was ascertain
a cover over truth
this was love at its highest

another rest, another night
a sentence made to be free
where was spirit, heart stood in step
foundations laid, amour cemented to being

meaning what, much to care in ways forth
rambles of a poet, malcontent to live
life - she was all there was,
God darn it , live

know your mercy was in good hands
this creativity, heaven was to want
holy spirit within, a voice to speak
whisper sweet nothings - nothing more to give

I believe in the sun
even when it's not shining.
I believe in love even
when not feeling it.
I believe in God
...even when He is silent

Faith can move mountains,
love unbreaks the shattered glass;
believe with all your heart, my friend,
and watch the shadows pass.
Everything will be all right.

Hearts In California

Today our hearts are in California,
our minds are upon our friend.
As we pray in our feeble way,
for her ailing body to mend.

Please grant her the healing Lord,
that she has gave to others,
broken hearts of sons of daughters,
broken hearts of sisters brothers,
broken hearts of fathers,
and broken hearts of mothers.

All these she has sought,
to touch with a gentle word.
Heal her broken body Lord,
let the request of those grateful hearts be heard.

Heavenly Father,
You know us better than we know ourselves.
For YOU are the Life within us
and it is in YOU that we live and move and have our being.
I was raised in the belief that prayer is the
most powerful form of hand-to-hand combat.
I was taught that the shortest distance between
a problem and a solution is the distance between
our knees and the floor.
These teachings have proven to be true.
Time after time you have shown your mercy.
I have learned that there is never a moment,
nor shall there ever be an iota of a moment,
when we are not completely in your mercy and grace.
Your mercy endures forever.
I have witnessed your glory so many times that I have
learned there is no way for me to NOT witness your glory.
Every breath is a gift of your grace.
Every heartbeat is a gift of your precious grace.
We lay down...
We sleep...
We awake...
For YOU Lord sustain us.
You have brought me to a place in my life where
I cannot worry.
I know how little I know.
And my lack of understanding
can easily allow fears to arise.
But,  I DO know that there is NOTHING
that YOU do not know.
Every hair of my head is numbered.
A sparrow does not fall without you knowing.
A flower does not bloom beyond your sight.
I know, without the slightest doubt...
You work ALL things...according to Your purpose.
You work ALL things...according to Your good pleasure.
You have brought me to a place where Faith sends fear fleeing.
I cannot worry.
My heart cries for others to be brought to this place of Faith.
My heart cries for others to find this Rest and Perfect peace.
As I bow my head...in this place of surrender and trust...
My prayer is only an acknowledgement...
to myself and to You...
that my only prayer...
my only will...
is that
YOUR will be done.

It is a powerful prayer and one that I know will never fail.
In it...  I can be still....
and  KNOW that You are   GOD.
I cannot worry.

Here’s some bad news.

Cellular phone batteries have a short life span.  Thus the reason I wasn’t getting return calls from Taylor.

Here’s the good news!

Taylor reports Martie is doing very well, considering all of the tests that the neurosurgeons are putting on her.  She has been tested for stroke [nothing!] but the MRI does show a meningioma on the lining of her brain [just under the scalp] which is about 2 ½” at the widest point.  She is on Decadron and Dilantin to keep any further swelling down and is, according to Taylor, about 90% improved.

The neurosurgeons haven’t reviewed the MRI from yesterday, but all indicators are that there is a high probability that the tumor is benign.

I talked to Martie, too…and boy, does she sound feisty!  Atta Girl, Martie!  We are ALL under the following instructions:

DO NOT WORRY!

She was overwhelmed when she realized that she was missed as I related to her the number of poets who have come in with their regards and prayers and told her the number of the messages so far.  She told me that the seizure left her back hurting a bit, and she is still a bit weak, and a tad dizzy, but she was assured by the doctors that all of this is normal.

She is very glad that she is being looked at by so many doctors…and being Looked After by so many Poets.

Martie and Taylor don’t know yet what plans the doctors will have for her – they may have her wait out the surgery until she is 100% improved, physically, from the seizure, which will mean a second trip to the hospital at a later date. However, it could be that what Martie knows at this moment will change later this afternoon.  I told her I would call and get another update from her this afternoon or early evening.

Her physician brother has been keeping close tabs on her as well.

She wants everyone to know she appreciates all of the love and support she has received from all of you, and cannot wait to read the poems left for her.

It’s all positive at this point, my friends.  So keep your good thoughts coming.

Thank you!

1:40 p.m. New Update:

From Taylor:

Surgeons and radiologists have determined that the meningioma is right above the optic nerve and all were very glad that the seizure brought it to their attention at this time, instead of the possibility of Martie having lost her sight.  The tumor is pushing about 3 inches into Martie’s brain, which acts like a finger to a wet sponge, and adapts itself accordingly.  This does not mean it is “in” the brain, but pushing “onto” the brain as it sits over the lining.

All of the surgeons are positive of good results for the surgery which will take place on Friday about mid-day.  It is approximately a 2-4 hour procedure.

Cards can be sent to

Kaiser Permanente
Attn:  Martha Ingebretsen
Room 630B
1526 N. Edgemont
Los Angeles, CA   90027

Again, Taylor cannot express his thanks for the virtual world of poets as they become real friends in this real life time situation.

For those of you who have been sending me emails, please know that I’m passing your love and well wishes on to Martie and Taylor as I can.

Oh, how absolutely wonderful!  TRUST Martie to be feisty!!!  Tell her it is easier said than done, not to worry!  But (talking for myself), I will try!

Does anyone know how many hours (including whatever Daylight Saving or Non-Daylight Saving) Los Angeles is behind GMT so that I can work out exactly what time it will be in South Africa when Martie goes in for her operation?

Lots of prayers and love and hugs and meeows and woofs, to you Martie from Owl, Tigger and Daisy.

I sent a note to Lucky and Rosemary...and also to Logan.

I wanted to send one to Mark Bohannan, but his contact isn't open. He and Martie are old friends, and if anyone has his email address, I'm sure he'd be grateful to be told of this..... Ron Travis too.

Dropped a note to Richie -- that's all I can think of right now.

Ed, thank you SO much for the added names...having Martie know of who we wish to find...that alone is a wonderful gesture.

Martie called me as I was on my way to McPherson for a book reading.  She is quite up...and a little scared, too.  We talked about the afterwards of surgery...it heartened me greatly to find out that not one, but three ministers have been in to see her, and she has welcomed them all, as only our Flower Girl can, and is anxious to get the surgery behind her.

Her son, Jay, won't let her near the computer.  I think he's afraid she'll fall into it, like Alice into the mirror.  But I have a feeling that he's peeking in and relaying the good wishes to his mother.

I think he's also overawed that so many people are joining hands and forming the biggest circle of love he's probably ever seen.

But then, flower girls bring that to them, don't they?

Love to all of you for all of your blessings on our Martie.

Keep finding another hand to bring into the circle.

Had a brief call with Martie.  She borrowed [read: absconded] her son's computer last night and peeked in...

because she felt some energy surrounding her, and she wanted to know the source.

She wants to thank everyone for their well wishes.  She is doing fine and getting stronger; she has visited with the ministers that have come in, and has prayed with them; she is preparing herself for the surgery, and has been surrounded by love through her sons, Taylor, and all of you.

She sends her love to each and every one of you.

She had a good breakfast, she said, and her temp was up "only because I had some coffee!"

She was going to try to call some friends, but the phone service that they have at the hospital won't allow her to do that unless she charges it to her home phone, and she cannot do that because no one is there to verify the charges.

So, if it feels good to come in here and leave another note, even if you did so before, please feel free to do it again.

I continue to thank our host and webmaster, Ron, for bringing us all together over time.  Without him, we really wouldn't know what we would be missing, but our lives would certainly be a bit "less" for that lack of knowledge.

Thank you, Ron.

Thanks for the continual updates Kari!
I'll be online Saturday early evening, and maybe Sunday AM before pulling the plug on the PC, which is, of course, the very last thing that goes out the door. I remember the 'old days' when it was the coffee pot that went out the door last and was the first to get plugged in, now...it's the Vaio. LOL.

Thank you, Sunshine girl for keeping in touch with Martie and for updating us as you receive news,

If all goes according to plan, (IF) I will see you, MArtie, at the end of June. Jim is hauling his boat from Connecticut to San Diego and I am going along as back seat driver (IF) I hope it works out. Get back on your feet, girl,so we can do something fun. I think of you every moment. Aside from the prayer chain, my prayers alone should see you through. I know you must feel all the love that exudes from the poetry forums. Grateful for the updates, Karilea, and the address! Thank you!

And ahhh the voice of Martie plays
like a painted melody; a garden
of rhyme and metered phrase,
her amazing gift, her adored images
scored like a song; and ahhh yes,
I have longed to share a cup of tea,
me, the honored guest, she like a reverie
joining me in duet...
she who has achieved much, her touch
of words flurried, delivered, adorned,
received, and I see her now....

she is Strength on a bed of Love,
her spirit above all, saying,
"I am here! I am here!," so clear the voice
of a sister, so dear the forever of an
everyblessing and ahhhh the voice of Martie

makes its way into my dreams, and I am
relieved when we meet to share a cup
of tea, mint or green, me, the honored

my sister, my friend, our lines intertwined!

Thank you all for coming to check in on Martie.

The newest update is that she is in line for surgery tomorrow, and at this time, if all goes as planned, she will go in at 2:00 p.m., Pacific Time.  The surgery will take up to 4.5 hours.  Taylor wants to wait to call until she is out of recovery, which could take from 2-4 hours.

In the meantime, Martie has been able to read all of your notes.  Her bit of dizziness is keeping her from responding at this time, but please, if you have written a poem in Open or Spiritual, please feel free to link these poems to this thread, so she can locate them easily.

Taylor concluded that your every word and wish, and prayer, are doing much to bring a deep sense of comfort and healing to her even now.  I know that after she is through with this ordeal, your gestures of love and kindness will bring even more to her as she recovers.

Martie wanted you all to know that she loves you all, and cannot thank you enough for thinking of her.

Keep your love light glowing, Poets.  It is doing our Martie a world of good.

Thank you Sunshine, for the untiring sunshine that you spread for Martie and for your updates.

For my own clarification while I am in Announcements and to copy offline, Martie's going into surgery at 2pm Pacific time means that her operation will start at 11pm on Friday night, South African time, that she will come out of surgery about 3.30am on Saturday morning and she will come out of recovery probably somewhere between 5.30am and 7.30am on Saturday.  I will be praying so very extra-hard, along with everyone else, that there will be a wide golden pathway of hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of prayers between us and God that will make it even easier for God to use to ease Martie through the operation and back to the beginning of a wonderful, gentle, pathway to perfect health.  I will use my impatience to fuel my patience waiting for you to be ready to be back posting on Pip.  Taylor, please organise for a huge room at the hospital for us all and our prayers to fit into, waiting with you for those hours which will seem very long, but which will pass, second by second, minute by minute, hour by hour.  I know you know we will all be with you, every mini-step of the way.  Keep up your strength, courage and faith, and if you should falter for a second, lean on God and our prayers.  We are there with you.

Lots and lots and lots of love to you, Martie.  It is now (South African time 10.25pm - Pacific time 1.25pm) about 33½ hours before we will get the message from Sunshine that your operation was successful and that you are resting and that you are on your way to recovery.  What a wonderful moment that will be!

Strength, courage, faith and love to you, our Martie, (and rest as much as you can in preparation for that wonderful job that God, the surgeons and our prayers are going to do on you)

if anyone wants to know about that place, given the poems are also in Open Poetry, they can contact me , and I will forward a link.

Hello Martie,

I didn't bring a poem or link this evening.
Just came to sit here quietly for a little while, and visit.
I do that from time to time during my day,
ever since this thread started.
It feels warm here-you can actually feel the love
from all your friends, here at Passions.
This is a good place to be..now, to think,
and pray, for a speedy healing for you.
Do you feel the peace and serenity here too?
I feel closer to you here.
I imagine the others do too.
Are you resting as you should?
Soon this will all be over
and you can put it behind you.
I miss you dear Martie...we all do.

We're all holding your hand,
I know Taylor has the other one and won't let go.
Tomorrow, I'll light a candle,
imagine you surrounded in a healing protective white light,
and I will say more prayers.
Prayers for you to come through this just fine.
Prayers for Taylor and your family to remain calm.
And, prayers for the doctors
that God will guide their professional hands.

I'll say goodnight now Martie.
Sleep warm and comforted.

I'll be back tomorrow morning.

Hugs and love, Nancy Lee.

Just checking in before work to say my prayers are getting intensified as it gets closer to your operation.  It is 7am on Friday morning here in South Africa now.  It is thus 10pm on Thursday night where you are.  It isn't long now before your operation will be over and Sunshine will be telling us that it went successfully and that you are resting well and recovering.  Rest well now to keep your strength up and don't be afraid - what with God, the surgeons, the 3 ministers, Taylor, your family, your Pip friends and all the prayer lists you are on, and last but not least your feistiness, success is more than assured.  After the operation, rest well and do what the doctors and Taylor tell you to do.  We will wait patiently until you are strong enough to return to posting on Pip.  Taylor is doing a wonderful job of keeping us informed via Sunshine so don't rush back to posting before your doctors and Taylor are happy with that.

Lots and lots of love

Ninety-first psalm
source;  John E. Gould

He that hath God his guardian made
shall underneath th'Almighty's shade
fearless and undisturbed abide;

Thus to myself of him I'll say,
He is my fortress, shield and stay,
My God; in Him I will confide.

His tender love and watchful care
shall free thee from the fowler's snare,
From every harm and pestilence.

He over thee His wings shall spread
to cover thy unguarded head.
His truth shall be thy strong defense.

He gives His angels charge o'er thee,
No evil therefore shalt thou see:
Thy refuge shall be God most high;

Dwelling within his secret place,
Thou shalt behold His power and grace,
See His salvation every nigh.

HE is your guardian;  we watch and pray.

Much love to you, Martie.  ~ Karen

For Our Beloved Martie

Why must the clouds so feel the need
To block out all the light
And cast their darkened shadows upon
Those that we hold tight

Why must a din of somber so encase
The ones we love
And make us hold our hearts and question
As we look above

This world in which we live in
Can be anything but fair
The weight that some are handed
Can be more then most can bear

The challenges can test us far beyond
The widest bounds
And press upon us firmly till we lay
Upon the ground

We come together on this day to lift
One of our own
A very special person who shall
Never be alone

We gather here now one and all
To send the love we share
We gather now to tell you Martie
How so much we care

So come with me and join your hands
and wrap her in our arms
And shroud her with our thoughts
And prayers to shield her from all harm

It’s feelings just like these
That almost cannot be expressed
The words that we are looking for
we simply don’t possess

Sometimes it’s more then just the words
That tell us how we feel
Sometimes it’s so much more then that
That helps to make us heal

Our Martie is the grace within
That keeps our hearts aglow
We care for her and need her
Much more then she’ll ever know

Dear Martie and Taylor, and family and friends,
I just know that everything will turn out all right.
I could never even begin to think otherwise.

Please know that I will have you near me in my thoughts and prayers.
With all the blessed love and thoughts coming your way, I just know
That you will be up and running in no time.

Martie, you hang in there now okay.
I absolutely refuse to imagine a world without you in it.

Big Hugs

Most Sincerely,
Your Friend,

Richy

Dear Ed (Rat Leader), thank you so much for the note!
That meant so much to me.
I had no idea this was happening, I am still in shock.
Thanks Again.

I spoke to our unflappable Martie this morning…I think she’s taking care of everyone else and making sure they are at ease and repeats that no one is to worry.

The surgery will begin at 1:30 p.m. Pacific Time.  Her surgeon is Dr. Chen.  She didn’t know the anesthesiologist’s name at this time.  Her nurse is Milena.  Let us keep them in our thoughts as well, as they take care of our Flower Girl.

I have continued to let Martie know of all of the love and support she has from all of you.  She feels this in her soul, and it does her heart good to know you are all pulling together for her.  I told Martie I would call back this evening, and talk to Taylor if she is too tired to talk.  I know from my own experience that it was but a matter of hours and my husband was very active after his surgery.  It was a couple of days later that the adrenalin wore down that he did a lot of resting.

I want to thank each and every one of you for your messages.  I know it takes time away from your family and friends to come in here and check on updates, but please know how much your words are appreciated.

Thank you.

"Our unflappable Martie" - oh Sunshine, I just love that!  That is her to a T!  In fact, to an M and an A and an R and a T and an I and an E!

I am sure that Dr Chen and Milena could not have had another patient with so many people rooting (or is that routing? - I have never thought about the origin of the term before) for her!

I will certainly include Dr Chen and Milena in my prayers to God to guide them to make things as perfect and as easy as possible for "our feisty, unflappable Martie"!

Martie, even if it is too close to your op for you to get these through the Internet, you’ll get them through the ether – lots of smiles, hugs, strength, confidence and hundreds of powerpunch-prayers that will continue until you are through the operation and the rest period (except for when I fall asleep – but when I wake I will continue them non-stop).  I have taken note of the 30 minute change, and have co-ordinated the times for the probable end of the op and the probable recovery time before Taylor will be in contact with Sunshine.  Now, it's fine to be feisty, but take things slowly and rest a lot.  We lovvvvvvvvvvvvve you.

Three cheers for Sunshine!

Martie, you'll read this later....but I know you feel it now.

Editing this in, at 1:45 Pacific Time...

Prayer is many things. It is talking to God, first and foremost, for anyone who believes.

It also can be also something else, something that even non-believers can give. It is the offering of the spirit's own substance, its strength, for a goal that we feel strongly enough to give of our very selves. It has an effect, whether we direct it to and through God or not, because there is that which is God, but there is also that which is humanity, and it is in our nature to give, not merely receive.

This is one of those times, when we all can pray....and all of us are praying, believers or no. We share this, all of us.

Prayer For Someone At A Distance

Find a quiet place, be quite in it:

Imagine your heart pumping
Energy, from feet to head
As you inhale each breath.

Let the life force flow,
Back to ground on each exhale
Send messages to earth,
Let time stand perfect still..

Employ your hands as vessel cups,
Then curve your arms in circle shape,
As if the distant anguished one
Was there with you, to share embrace,
And in that grasp, hold on to peace
Transport the person to safe place,
Carry them within your wings,
Unburden them with touch by joy.

You might hear music (your heart)
Playing a Divine orchestration,
And your voice may raise to sing
Without intent or instruction,
As your prayers on breaths emit-
Particulates, atomic quick dispersing
Prayers that world wise spread,
Across the miles to heal the one
Distressed and at a distance.

Pray the highest spirit take
(Over) both your human lives,
Ask for creations intervention...

the hands in reach to hold;
the sky in beam of every heart
as sands stream still in gold;
lines of lexis knit a sound
and all in breath of you;
flowers stand around in still
quivering heartbeats true.
All have come a’gathering
plucking at a tune,
Come home Martie, come home please,
to sing your poems…and soon.

Martie it is exactly 2 hours into your operation time and our vigil time.  It should be only another 2 to 2½ hours more and then another 2 t0 4 hours in recovery and then Taylor will be giving the good news to Sunshine.

My powerpunch prayers are shooting up continuously.  I can feel how well it is going.  Hang in there, Martie, Taylor and family.  Not long now.

Lots and lots of love

It is only a quarter of 7 out there in California...I plan on calling in about an hour or so, as it takes time to get through the recovery room and back into a reassigned room.  I promise, as soon as they call, or I can reach them, you will have an update.

One Huge Collective Sigh of Relief.

Martie's son called.

"Everything went smoother than even the doctors figured!"

She is in recovery, and then will be sent to ICU for 24, possibly 48 hours, to watch for any swelling.

The doctors anticipate, at this time, that they would like to keep her for another week at the hospital, after ICU.

There were NO complications.

I cannot thank all of you enough for giving so much time to our one and only Flower Girl.  As some of you may know, the hospital does not take floral gifts for several reasons, health being one of the first.  Cards are more than welcome.

Of course, your notes "here" will last as long as the site does, which I sincerely hope, will be a lifetime.

Again, my thank you to Ron, for allowing poets from around the world to hold onto the unique and special moments we find to create in this, a home of poetry, and special times, including special needs.

I think I am safe in saying that our Martie would say...write on!

Martie, and Taylor...a repost
that brings a promise with it.

While sun is coming out in gorgeous light
Our friendship circle worked again quite well

Oh, happy, happy tears!  We all knew it, but it is soooooooooooooooo wonderful to HEAR it!

Thank you God, Dr Chen, Milena, Taylor and family and friends, Sunshine, fellow Pipsters.

I wish I could think of something profound to say, but all that comes to me is that we will go on praying for your speedy comfort and complete recovery.  I hope that you are resting, Martie, Taylor-and-family, friends, Sunshine and fellow Pipsters.  Martie, please do as Dr Chen, Milena, Taylor and your sons tell you.  You need to take things slowly.  We love you.

Happy smiles through the happy tears

Good news indeed Kari, and what a good thing I sent a balloon bouquet as I didn't know about no flowers at her hospital.  Strange thing is I changed my mind at the last possible second, now talk about karma.  Good karma in this place that's for sure.

Get Well Soon Martie, and Taylor, now you can breathe.

Ways of a Kind Heart

29 April 2006

All ways of a kind heart
each beauty in being
A warmth inside, hands clasped
across an ocean, across a nation united
Another state, more southern than some
a Pacific destination, lake land to shore

Such triumphant moves,
dancing with destinies shadow
We know the truth, for we are free
This God of everything, you, even me

For where was meter, a measure afar
this closeness of center, spelling in maid
Where are and we unite, a trusting bond
her love, her soul, her of being fond

Did she want a love song
or amour whispered to ear
An understanding of being kin
prayers made and God over to begin

When to some people, if they held the record of being the poet with the most poems on this site, with no form of comment posted next to them, they may not have continued to visit and share their writing here. - so far if I don't hold that record, no doubt I will soon enought.

And if not for Martie and a few others, I would not be at her side right now in knowing to share is to care.

And now to heal... that miracle
Of biology, attended by science,
And the aid of gentle massage
Given in silent prayers,
And softly spoken words
Of poet friends and family.

Thank you Kari, for keeping us informed of our Flower Ladies progress...

According to the kids, Martie will be in ICU for another 24 hours or so.  She is doing extremely well, all things considered.  She is awake, conversant, smiling...

But we wouldn't expect any less, would we?

She will still need to stay in the hospital for the next week...so your continued good messages, thoughts, jokes, links, etc., will be a boon to her upon her return home.

If not before.

God blesses you all.

Martie, Darlin', some people think I went into the nursing profession to help people ~ but it was really to get up close and personal with the doctors! Flirty 2

I'd wager my bra (I dont' really need it,

have beautiful, sun-tanned bodies.
Perhaps I'll drop by for a visit.

writing you heart out,

It's so good to know you are smiling already (but, of course, not in the least surprising!).  Take it very slowly so that you can keep smiling.  It isn't clever to overdo things - and you ARE clever, so that proves that you can't/musn't/won't overdo things!

Memories and Mists

“Here, sit, play…”

an invitation to explore
the keys of another’s
comfort zone was both
humbling and disconcerting…

it had been so long since I had played…

and I am not good in putting
fingers to music when practiced,
let alone stiff with time…

but I opened the bench top,
knowing I would find the books
of my own childhood,
and practiced a moment,
first with the right hand,
and then with the left…

but when I went to play,
there in Martie’s room,
I could not make my hands come
together…

and there was no braiding of tune
to fill the air
with notes we both knew so well…

I sat for a moment in the quiet,
Martie and Taylor elsewhere,
Remote singing quietly
in the main room; Needful meowing
outside; Precious inside at my feet…

but,
I was not alone with just animals.
I was not to be sitting here,
I could feel that…

I got up, put the book back,
walked into the room where Remote
was singing, and saw then,
the why of it;

her

and mother’s piano was for
her mother, alone…
where the mist of love
would always surround only her…

When I returned home,
sat at my own piano,
pulling out the same book as sits within
Martie’s piano bench,
my fingers needed no right hand left hand practice,
but came together, as I felt my own mother’s
hand push gently on my back,
that I should sit up straight, shoulders back,
fingers curled…
allowing the music to float upward…

we both have our Mists,
Martie and I…

And I hold to it that we are surrounded
with our loving Memories…

How can you not be alright with so much love surrounding you. Just look at this thread. It proves how much you are loved and admired and how much you are respected as a poet. As for me, there is no measure to quantify my esteem for your personal attributes as well as your talents. My prayers are with you always

Can anyone stand some better news?

One of our poets contacted me today, asking if I had heard any more.  I was pretty sure that being this was a Day of Rest, Martie probably needed some.  So I was overjoyed when Taylor called moments ago.

Some highlights of this last week have culminated to allow us to rejoice in this message!

Martie is out of ICU.  She has been transferred to a private room.  [Transmission was breaking up a bit - I did not get a room number, but I can later...]

First of all, the four plus hour surgery was only 2.5 hours.  There was no need for transfusion as had been thought there might be need for...something tells me great powers were at work...but that is just my own interpretation of things.

Here's the better news.  Martie's HUMOR is back...her Thought Processes are much CLEARER...there is no longer any sign, let alone hint, of slurring speech.

The doctors are speculating that she will be discharged as early as Wednesday...possibly Thursday.  They will plan for some home health care, and Taylor is calling his boss to get back into the work schedule.

Taylor is overjoyed.  I don't think he's doing the happy dance alone...but I won't put up that dancing baby...

Our Martie will be home soon folks.  Go ahead and flood her with cards...you've got the snail mail address from a few posts ago...or make her own postman smile and send them to her at her home.

Or just leave links, love and notes here...I have a feeling this will become, for Martie, a "keeper" of a thread.

I wish I could thank all of you in person.  I know in my bones that this new lease on life will bring Martie's muse back...

I know it in my soul!

Thank you All!

Karilea...i have been watching this thread through the days of Martie's operation all the way up to now...the love we all have and send to Martie is unique...thank you for keeping us all informed...

Martie we all look forward to the future days of your brilliant poetry..the pictures of such vivid flowers that accompany your poems and most of all for your caring soul..that adds to the family of poets here at pip and connects all of us together to our one soul...one heart...and the big love we have for you and all poets at passions in poetry...may you have a speedy recovery...and may God keep you within his light of love..

To thank God
in numbers of two
Like sunshine upon a tree
this tree of beauty, Martha's tree

Not fruit too rich
its taste and flavour
just right
Her heart, her warmth,
her kind to give

Perhaps I will save these words and write in adding to this later,
to be grateful to know two wonderful being, two wonderful woman, Martie and Karilea.

After all this was what prayer was for
and those blessings received all in being true
This it thank in God,
freedom of worship lived

a poet who cares

We are all soooooo blessed at the good news !
MartieSis ... love ... soooooo much love surrounds you and Taylor~

And as a 'side-note' ... because of this 'keeper' thread .... I was able to see that Elizabeth Santos was heading for Disney World this Wednesday, and will be here a week ... I emailed her ... and we will be making plans to get together, as Disney is only a hop, skip and a jump from my home ... Bill and I will drive over and meet Lizzy on whatever day she chooses !!!

Blessings abound !

Continue your progress sweet Sis ...
prayer vigil continues~

Martie called this afternoon, just to prove to me that she could giggle!  Now, the docs are watching her carefully because she does have a small fever, and they’re chasing that bug down to see where it is residing.  It could well be a touch of pneumonia, which is common, but I’m sure once they track it down, shoot it with some antibiotics, everything will once again get on track.

Keep bringing those jokes and such in here, poets…Martie is really looking forward to getting home and having something good to read.

But with poets like you, that’s a snap!

Fantastic news!  Let's hope that fever is already gone or at least on it's way out.

Let's have a party
To celebrate Martie
When she comes home
For the mercy God's shown

We pray for healing
'Til she's feeling
Once again
As great as she has
aways been

I have tears in my eyes, a mixture of sadness and relief, after going through this incredibly love-filled thread.

Dear ((((((((Martie))))))) I send you all my love and my prayers are with you for a perfect recovery.

Poets do have warm hearts, it shows here! This love is rooted in your own beauty, dear Martie. You are quite special to me too.

Love and hugs.

Blessed Are

Just like a roller coaster
How you gave us such a scare
A journey with it’s highs and lows
So high up in the air

Our hearts were really thumping
Holding on with sweaty palms
A smooth and happy finish
That left everybody calm

You make us all appreciate
The life we have to live
You help us truly realize
How much one person gives

You made us come together
As a family once again
So many prayers were answered
We’re so fortunate, amen

There’s something really special
When so many people care
True love is always better
When you have enough to share

It doesn’t need to be expressed
But if I may repeat
Thank you all for helping Martie
Get back on her feet

Some say that being kind is not
Among the latest trends
But bless-ed are the lucky few
Who have the truest friends

Blessings to you Martie,
I am so very happy that you’re
going to be okay!

Blessings to you all
You are all so very special!

I moved, and just got back online with dialup less than 5 minutes ago. Needless to say, this is my first 'order of business' online,
to say how happy I am to know Martie is going home soon, that the surgery was so successful.
Martie, a million hugs to you, Taylor, and your whole family!

Martie, I am glad that the doctors are watching that fever closely.  I am praying very hard that whatever it is will be brought under control and got rid of as soon as possible with as little discomfort as possible to you.  I am delighted that you can giggle (but not in the least surprised) - just don't giggle too much so that it hurts your head.

I look forward to my little visit to you every day.  Be careful and keep listening to the doctors and your family.

Lots and lots and lots of love and prayers

Martie Girl,
We're not letting you go. Just thought you should know. I need you too much still. Besides you've just learned a bunch more stuff you must teach us.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane,
I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

Notes from Taylor:

Fever has subsided...brought on by the surgery, mostly; humor is coming back faster than you can wink! Wicked humor, too!

As of now, Martie is scheduled to be released at 11:00 a.m. Thursday and will go home.  However, until she recovers further, she will have some nursing assistance...all paid for, as Taylor says, by that insurance that we think we never need.

And Martie won't know until she gets home that her neighbors brought over a huge vase of sweetpeas...just waiting for her...

I think it is time to revive my nastystrsium poem for her.

Again, my thanks for all of your thoughts, prayers, words...as these were passed on to her, and will continue to be passed on to her, she will recuperate faster than we can write a cinquain.

Here's to you, Martie-Sis!

Hi Martie!
I just came in from the garden picking tulips, lilacs and lily of the valley.
The whole time I was out there I was thinking of you, our flower girl.

Your garden will be overflowing with special blessings this year.

Hugs and I'm so excited you're coming home tomorrow.

You have been SO missed.
Now rest and heal and be all better real quick.

Love ya sweet lady,

Hello Martie!
I moved a few days ago, and now have a small yard area for gardening.
So, instead of buying a TV (I gave mine to daughter Sara when she moved away last week, to work on a horse farm in Washington I really miss her!) I went out and bought some plants! And I thought of you as I made my selections: four colors of freesia, two tiny delicate fucshias, some lobelia and sweet allysum, marigolds, red geraniums, one cherry tomato and some herbs. Next time, will buy lilac, lavendar, sage, carnations, snapdragons. Sheesh, after years of not having anywhere to garden, I am going crazy! LOL, but of course, you understand the passion for flowers equals the passion for art and poetry.
Hugging you, and looking forward to your return when you are well enough.

Now, you get lots of sleep.  I'm glad your glasses are missing (I hope only temporarily) so that you can get some rest, before you get to the computer.

The flower lady has withstood a winter:
This poem, these words nuzzle-she stands;
Dew is tears of joy on hugged and hugger.

Others wait their turn to make connection,
And like Bloodroots folding digit leaves
They clasp their hands in thankful prayer.

Hi Martie

I would guess (but am not sure) that you don't need us here in this thread any more, now that you are back in Pip and now that we can communicate with you directly by email again too, but just popped in to say Goodbye via this thread, but will continue to pray for your complete recovery and will continue to communicate with you via email and Pip.

Lots of love

- Owl

Owl, don't be too sure about assuming things are well.  It takes a few days to watch waters settle.

While I won't go into details right now, because things are quicksilver and fluid in flux of change, I will go ahead and say that Martie and Taylor are still in need of your prayers.

You don't have to check in every day, but if you can continue with good thoughts of health and life, perhaps prayers to bring those to a better place than where they are right now, then it will indeed be considered by me, as well as Martie and Taylor, as a blessing.

Things aren't as they should be, but it could be that all that is required is a little more time for recuperation and perhaps a bit of slowing down, a time to reflect and regenerate what is good in our lives to come back to us again.

So, Martie indicated that yes, please, if you feel you can spare another prayer for a little while, both she and Taylor would appreciate it.

Recuperation can be a long road.  One that can become quite gray in its longevity.  One that helping, holding hands might alleviate from gray to a spreading, parting of the clouds, to bring some sunshine and rapture to two of ours.

Thank you again, for all of your persistence.  Thank you again...for your giving.

Hugging both of them tonight, and keeping the candlelight of healing glowing through the night.
Thanking you, Lady Sunshine, for keeping us updated, as we need to give her as much rest as possible, and not be expecting her gracious return to the boards so soon.
We love you dearly, Martie, and will continue keeping you and your loved ones close to our hearts.

As lovingly suggested by dear Karilea, I reach out to hold hands over distance. You are a brave lady, dear Martie, beautiful poetess. May you feel better with each new sunrise.

Sending you much love.

Oh, of course, Karilea.  It will be my pleasure to continue to pop in every day and let Martie know of my continued good wishes and intensified prayers for her and Taylor.

Martie, please feel my prayers, and as Karilea suggests, my hands holding you all the way from South Africa.

It will be some time before you are out of the woods, but while you are there, wander slowly through and enjoy the little woodland creatures and flowers.  In time, you will come out into the sunshine.

We all love you.  Please take things very slowly, and rest, and bask in God's and our love and support, and the beauty of every little moment.  All things work together for good, but recovery takes rest, tranquility and time.

Lots and lots of love and hugs

- Owl

Prayers and shiploads of serenity and tranquility floating to California and surrounding you.  Feel your shoulders relax in warm sunshine, breathe in the scent of delicate flowers, and watch the kaleidoscope of colours on butterfly wings, and sit and do absolutely nothing for as long as you like!
