April is Poetry Month in Canada!

The above photo of me was taken in my kitchen
this week by a photographer with our local newspaper.
There was a lovely article on the poetry group that I belong to. I am also a member of the Canadian Federation of Poets. In the article, the reporter mentioned the 1,200 poems that
I have written in the past 3 years. (1,100 of
which have been posted here at pipTalk!)

Our last open-mike poetry night, had TV cameras rolling and newspaper reporters taking photos.
It was wonderful to see all the interest and attention that the media is giving to poetry in Canada today!

This week also marked the 20th anniversary of
an art group that I founded. There was media coverage for that event as well.

The Arts are alive and well in Canada! I am so
pleased to be able to play a part, albeit small,
in bringing the arts to the general population.

During my interview with one reporter, I was asked
whether I thought poetry was for everyone. I responded with a resounding "Yes!"  However, most people are not aware of it! That is why I am doing what I can to promote poetry by exposing more people to it! I believe that there should be more of an emphasis in our schools on teaching children how to write, read, and appreciate poetry. Through poetry, one becomes more in touch with their inner selves and with the world around them. There is a heightened connectedness with one's own self and with others. There is also more of an appreciation and respect for our environment. This comes from from an increase in awareness. Poets not only see ~ they look! They feel! They love! They share!

I recite my poetry at schools, libraries, company parties, public poetry readings, and other  gatherings. I am getting "the word" out there, so to speak. We live in an age of inquiring minds and spiritual quests and it is my belief that the role of poetry in our lives is on the rise!

Ron, I commend you for your considerable contributions to keeping poetry alive and well
in the world!!!

I send love and respect to each and every one of my fellow pipster poets! It is also with heart-felt gratitude I sing the praises of Ron and his team of moderators and administrators! You are all making a difference.

Love & Poet's Light,
Linda

Congratulations! You are one multi talented lady.

We used to have poetry in school from first grade right into High School. I can still recite The Little Red Wagon~! and I'm Hiding I'm  Hiding and no One knows where.
I do not know why they are not doing that now. They have even stopped teaching cursive writing! I guess they think everyone will use computers! best to you, martyjo

I love the photo!

Congratulations on your poetic achievments Linda..nobody deserves to be commended more for your input on poetry to these pages and to the group to which you belong than you do. Even in the face of a period of uncertain health you pulled through and carried on writing and posting on these blues pages..thank you for your dedication to the poetic cause and long may you continue..

I wish i was Canadian just so i could post in your group and be part of it!!! and have my work seen by your group...
May you be inspired in all of your writings as much as you have been recently and in the past too...and may your health always stay on the upward curve...thank you..

Goldenrose.

Well pretty Canadian lady with the multitude of talent you have I am glad that you are being recognized, and are active in Poetry Month in the East.  It is Poetry Month out in the West too, and living in the City Of The Arts, I am ashamed to say I have only been to a couple of events thus far, as life is just too demanding these days.

Congratulations to you Linda, and your new picture is just lovely!

Beautiful picture of you... lovely, Linda.

I am happy to say that poetry is alive and well in the school system I am working in.
There are many contests the children can enter and almost all subjects have an activity in writing.

We are always talking about rhyming words and starting in Kindergarten almost all the  reading story books are in rhyming poetry verses.

Congratulations!!

martyjo ~

I find it curious that in some ways the education that our children are receiving, is far superior to that which we received ~ while in other ways, it is greatly lacking.

Thank you for sharing your experience! ~ and for your kind and generous words!

Love. Life, & Poetry!
