Thanks for the well wishes, guys (and the delightful poetry).
I'll be hopping in the Miata within the next hour, heading the 110 miles due west to Chicago, which should get me there in plenty of time for my big "surprise" party. Hef is reopening the Chicago mansion just for tonight, and the guest list looks pretty exciting (though, at only 200 people, perhaps a bit bare in places). John Glenn is going to be there and has promised me a ride in the shuttle after the celebrations begin to wind down. I'm especially looking forward to meeting Meg Ryan and Sandra Bullock, if only to see if their smiles are as captivating in the moonlight as they are on the screen. Entertainment is being provided by Credence Clearwater, with backup by Chicago (how appropriate!) and Earth, Wind & Fire. Linda Ronstadt is singing the "Happy Birthday" song, though rumor has it Olivia Newton-John isn't happy about it. Arnold will be there, too, reprising his role as Conan the Barbarian, to help me cut the cake. I hope he remembers to bring Red Sonja this time . . .
Uh, wait a minute.
Okay, I'm awake now.
On days like this, that first cup of coffee can be a bit of a shock.
