Listening to every heart
Birth of a Novel
I remember that my first child was supposed to have been born November 5, 1970, and didn’t come along until December 6. I thought THAT was a long birthing process.
This was longer.
On November 22, 2004, I signed a contract with PublishAmerica [PA], sent them a mailing list, [PiP members at their request], mailed an original copy to the Library of Congress [talk about a humbling experience…]; took my daughter out on one very cold December day [I believe it was a high of 19 degrees] to find the house that would best depict what my inner eye saw in the story line; submitted all required information, and then opted for their editors to give it “one more look” even after the many eyes that had perused rough drafts, talked my way into “one more round” of changes after the “one and only first round” of edits…[such a sweet talker!] and then…
I waited some more.
On Halloween of October, 2005, I had the “treat” of learning from East and West coast PiP friends that they were in receipt of the announcement that my book had been published.
On that same day, I received an email from PA that stated I should be receiving my Fed Ex’d author’s copies no later than November 2.
Early birth. They arrived today. 21 days before the contract deadline. Would you call this a premature birth?
So, here’s what is going around in Press Releases, and such:
Karilea Rilling Jungel, author and poet, has combined poetry and prose, in a haunting look at what one can experience if one realizes that there are ways to be touched by the unknown as we travel through our lives. Her first novel, Yesterday’s Love, may well become one of your treasured reads when you join Katrina Givens as she resolves to understand the mystery that surrounds the lives of people she never met, but seems to know intimately.
Relationships in life are formed and kept in many ways; and some are surely meant to last forever. Katrina and Cora Jenkins are two uniquely different, yet similar women, who realize that there are reasons for everything, even if those reasons are not apparent at first. Opening their hearts and minds to another plane and its many ambiguities, they accept the undertaking of resolving a mystery in order to try to reunite Samuel and Virginia Stinson, two lovers who had been deceased over one hundred and fifty years. In giving unconditionally and emotionally of herself for others, Katrina’s life finds a new pathway to a forever relationship as well.
Find yourself turning from page to page, as you follow the stories of several lives as they intertwine from yesterday’s mysteries to today’s answers. Discover the pathways of life along with Katrina Givens and Randall Jackson. Along the way, if you begin to believe in the unexplainable, you will realize that being open to life’s vagaries is just the beginning of its treasured moments.
You may order your autographed copy for $24.95 plus shipping and handling directly from email@example.com
PA is offering the book at the rate of $19.95 plus shipping and handling. I was amazed today when I Googled the title plus my last name and found that it is already available on international websites. Some are offering it at the retail price of $24.95 plus shipping and handling. Some are offering it a whole cent less than retail. I had to laugh!
Here’s how I’m going to offer it to our PiP members. $25.00 flat for US shipments, $30.00 USD for international shipments, which will include shipping and handling, plus, it will be autographed as you request. By emailing me at firstname.lastname@example.org , all I request is your name, street address, zip code or any international mailing information that may be required. I will be sending it out “average mail”, which will mean, throughout USA, somewhere between 5-10 days delivery. For now, a money order will suffice. All addresses will be kept confidential.
Finally, to all PiP members, my heartfelt appreciation and thank you, for your encouragement, support, and overall enthusiasm. For your love of writing, the emotional hand-holding, your beloved nagging, your questions, your anticipation. Had I heard ONLY from you folks, it would have been enough to keep me jumping over the moon again and again. But I’ve been getting some of the same enthusiasm from Salinans, long-distant family & friends, peers from Kansas Legal Professionals, oh, in so many ways!
I have been deeply blessed by the fact that so many of you have sent private, encouraging notes and emails, and patiently awaited throughout this “pregnancy”.
Finally…for those of you who know Fagin, my brother Robert. He will get the first book. He has been in the hospital again, has undergone two surgeries in the last month, and his daughter hopes that he will be home in time for Thanksgiving. This book is due, in part, to his insistence that I follow through on something that I have held within me for a lifetime. Now, it’s out. All thanks to a fellow poet, a brother musician, someone who didn’t get the full chance to follow his dream, but encouraged his older sister to run, not walk…to pass Go…and collect…magic.
