If anyone here has any knowledge of how to find Navy-related active duty information, please e-mail me...or post the info here...

I have been asked to find information for an individual who is currently on active duty and is unable to contact his command.

ANY help will be MUCH appreciated!

Thanks!

Gosh, that person is probably worried about being report AWAL.  Sorry, Vicky, I don't have any ideas, but I bet someone will.

Thank you, Donna...

I was able to get a phone number to pass on to him... and he's currently in texas, so hopefully will be able to call it.

I'm waiting to hear back from him, by e-mail, as to whether or not it helped.

Thanks Vicky.  I just checked and was told to check with the Naval Support Activity Department but since you have your answer I will just say
Thank God!

You are terrific Vicky, for all you are doing to help.  I wish there were more that I could do from here.

Another source of help is the Red Cross... they are able to blow through the privacy issues and get his information from the Navy.

Just an  update...

I received an e-mail from Brandon's wife, thanking me for sending the phone number...

She promised to stay in touch, so I'm still waiting to find out if he was able to contact his command...

Thanks, all, for your help in this...

Ringo is correct, the Red Cross is who to contact for people in the service.  That is who got a hold of me when I was in the Navy when my brother passed away.  I think every base might even have a chapter.

Even though this has been fixed, I am going to continue on by agreeing with Bernie.. EVERY miliraty command around the world (including the Gulf) has a Red Cross office, whether it is American Red Cross, or International Red Corss/Red Crecent. I was a part-time case working in Yuma, and was able to get information on Marinies that the family could not get because of those magic words ,"Red Cross".

Bernie, and Brad?...

Though this particular instance may be 'fixed', it's very helpful
to know what to do should I be asked for such help again.

Thank you both...

This was in that flutter of links - but in Red Cross - you will see the listings of Armed Forces Emergency Stations:

Just got email for emergency numbers for our active duty members and civ. employees to call if they need to:

HURRICANE KATRINA HOTLINES

The Navy is sincerely concerned for our Sailors and their family members in the areas affected by Hurricane Katrina. In view of this disaster, the Navy has set up several hotlines.

MILITARY:  In light of the communications difficulties created by the hurricane, Navy Personnel Command has set up a 24 hour help line for both Sailors and their family members to call for information regarding their loved ones: 1-877-414-5358. This line is staffed 24x7 by active duty Navy personnel and will have connectivity with Navy, FEMA and other government agencies.  They will try their very best to answer questions regarding the status of Navy family members, but please be aware that communication in the region is still very challenging and in some cases impossible at this point.

CIVILIANS:  If DON  civilians call the above number, they will be provided a toll free number that will be ringing here at the Office of Civilian Human Resources (OCHR).  That civilian-specific toll free number is 1-877-689-2722 and it will be manned beginning at 0800 today and then during normal business hours until further notice.  The phone will have a recorded message when the phone is not manned and staff will be checking for messages over the weekend.
