Hubby just told me if you really look hard you can find places in the Galeria area (Houston) ... duplexes, etc. for under $1000 (having hard time believing him, but that is what he said).

Sharon....and yes, shopping is everywhere now!  Since there is no zoning here....stores are everywhere.  Sharon, you wouldn't believe the growth!  Also, you can't live in Houston in the summer without A/C....all houses have them with the exception of those in the 4th ward, possibly.

Still thinking about different areas of the city --Pasadena's cheaper, too....but pollution is pretty bad there.

looking for missing persons

I was watching damage footage with my 15 year old when they broke for a commercial -- she said "who cares about toothpaste when this is going on?"

Gosh, I feel so helpless, but I will keep the prayers going while all these angels perform their wonders.

Thank you all and God bless every last one of you.

All I can do (and am doing) from my part of the world, is sending Vicky's "Katrina site" to every station I can find on the internet.

Don't know if it helps, but it gives me the feeling I'm doing something to help.

Bless you all, Titia

The videos shown on the news channels are disturbing...and in some ways uplifting. The down side will always be with us but I am glad that the good in people shines through. For every looter shown stealing, there is someone willing to give the shirt off their back..a place in their home..anything! to help out.

It's going to be a long haul for those displaced by the storm and it's aftermath. Let's not make this thread a one time deal. Let's continue to see who/what we can help with.

You all are amazing people and I'm proud to be a part of this place!

Circle of friends......exactly!

Okay, Twist...

Glad ya re-registered...

but don't know what the problem is with logging in...

The boards are set up from a built-in software on the server...

so I don't have any control over those particular links...

Only over the content of the boards...
the headings and such...

and, of course, moderating the boards and such...

but will check things on this end and see if all is working for me

Thanks for the heads-up

Well, Twist...

It does seem to be a bit 'moody' right now...

I signed out and back in and yep.. did have a little trouble...

Unfortunately, as I said, there's not much that I can do about that part...

Others seem to be getting in okay, though...
so I hope you're able to sign in soon...

and if you, or others, keep having problems with it, please let me know, and I'll track down someone who CAN help 'fix' it...

This is so incredibly touching.

Vicky? That's amazing! And Suzie? You could have a career as a publicist!

And for the second time today I had tears, but these were the good kind.

I'm a tired refugee, but grateful to my family and my family of friends for all that you've done for me and mine.

Pay it forward, I say.

*hope*

to forum and family--and tonight I just may sleep...

Twist and Karen?...

I've posted this for each of you, individually, before...

and tonight?...

Here it is, for BOTH of my sisters...

Lullaby For A Friend

This be my song of comfort for your soul
That you should slumber peacefully in dream
May visions of a brighter day console
This be my song of comfort for your soul

I'll tend the fire and stoke the final coal
And bid you sleep till moon has lost its beam
This be my song of comfort for your soul
That you should slumber peacefully in dream

All my love to you both...

I will forever look up to the both of you.

I can post here without being a registered member? Wow!

I was thinking about Karen..... serenity... worried... watching the news.

I haven't read through this whole thread yet. I emailed Ron to get Karen's email address since the one I currently have doesn't seem to work any more and he directed me to this thread and told me Karen was fine.

I feel more serene now, knowing.

Just stopped by to tell you I was concerned, Karen, and I'm so pleased to know you and your family are safe.

I'll read the whole thread now. Thank you, Ron, for directing me here.

Please email me when you get a chance, Karen. Thanks!

Smiling wide up here and waving atcho Dor - tonight I think we can all sleep just a little better, well I hope.

Hugging those two "Twisted Sisters" and family members big time, and everyone else in here too for that matter.   We just never know from day to day what is going to happen to us do we, so we have to care about each other that's for sure, and just let the "stuff" go.

Night night all.  Sleep tight.

Oh, as you can guess, I still can't get through on the phone, so will use Vicky's forum too.   She is doing a great service there.

As Ed, I have been attempting to stay in the corner and keep quiet, however I have got to jump up and down in the middle of the room for a second and say just exactly how proud I am of everyone on here, and especially in this thread...
You can tell the type of people you are dealing with when an emergency strikes... adn I think we have seen the best that PIP has to offer.

quote:

No fatalities were reported in the Hattiesburg-Laurel area and surrounding counties.

Officials estimated that power in the Pine Belt would not be restored for two to three weeks. Telephone service, which was also out in many areas, was expected to be out even longer. Countless power lines and poles were downed by the hurricane across a vast area.

It's good to see you all and to know you care so much about each other, still. You haven't seen me here but I continue to care, too. Love.

Thank you, jojo...

and no...
I don't know anything about those areas...

but feel free to post your question here too...
http://raynedaycreations.com/katrina/phpBB/index.php

and maybe someone will come along who does...

Also.. I'm really not very familiar with the Mississippi area, so if there is not already a board for that covers the area you're referring to, please let me know and I will add one...

I am trying to make the boards as complete and helpful as possible, so all suggestions are welcome...
