Was talking to a fellow Floridian Pipster this morning and came up with the bright idea of doing a Floridian Pip gathering.  Of course any non-Floridian Pipster are more than welcome if they would like to make the trip.

Here is what I would like:

I want to have it in St. Augustine, Florida.   I would like input on where.  I would prefer a place that could accommodate a group, and would serve food and drinks (individual paying).  If anyone has any ideas post or email me, please!

I was thinking September or October but would like input on that as well.

Of course I would also like anyone interested in attending to let me know.

Susan, that is a wonderful idea!

That'd be about a 7 and 1/2 hour drive for me. Maybe Karen could come here to Pensacola and she could drive the rest of the way with me in the rental car?

Let me do some research on St. Augustine and maybe I can give some suggestions on where to meet.

I think this is a great idea!  Don't see any reason why poets can't organize a gathering in the state they are in, and those that want to go will sure go!  Probably a lot easier than trying to organize "one get together" where a lot can't attend.  Good for you Susan, for starting a Florida ball rolling.

Susan, thanks for the link. I'll look over it all tomorrow. I'm exhausted...trying to work my job and help as many people as I can get back on their feet after the hurricane makes for a long day.

Hopefully I'll have tomorrow off so I can take care of things around the house and have some time for myself.

A Brief History of St. Augustine

Founded in 1565, St. Augustine is the oldest continuously occupied settlement of European origin in the United States. Forty-two years before the English colonized Jamestown and fifty-five years before the Pilgrims landed at Plymouth Rock, the Spanish established at St. Augustine this nation's first enduring settlement.

The architectural legacy of the city's past is much younger, testimony to the impermanent quality of the earliest structures and to St. Augustine's troubled history. Only the venerable Castillo de San Marcos, completed in the late seventeenth century, survived destruction of the city by invading British forces in 1702.

Vestiges of the First Spanish Colonial Period (1565-1764) remain today in St. Augustine in the form of the town plan originally laid out by Governor Gonzalo Méndez de Canzo in the late sixteenth century and in the narrow streets and balconied houses that are identified with the architecture introduced by settlers from Spain. Throughout the modern city and within its Historic Colonial District, there remain thirty-six buildings of colonial origin and another forty that are reconstructed models of colonial buildings.

St. Augustine can boast that it contains the only urban nucleus in the United States whose street pattern and architectural ambiance reflect Spanish origins.

And it goes on and on. Well worth a visit. Go to St.Augustine Fl..Google it for photos and events. A great place to spend a weekend. best martyjo

wow...I've just done some looking over the pages in the links you posted Susan

The Conch House is a lovely place to go, excellent choice!

I loved the site-seeing tours too...Ripley's Believe It Or Not, and the trains.

Sounds pretty cool. Now if we could just drag Karen away for a couple days...

Susan~
MartyJo emailed me about this ... GREAT IDEA~
I'd be up for another Floridian-hosted gathering if it can be worked into our schedules~
I'd opt for October~

I know that the memories we wrote at our gathering in New POET Richey back a few years ago (Where DOES the time go?) still rest in the heart of this poetess~

Getting to meet 'up close and personal' the poets of my knowing wrote memories that I will never forget~
Marsha, Krissy, Kethry, Titia, Balladeer and Frannie, Nan/Pilgrimage, Lyra and Dave, Seymour and Isobel, Maureen ... and Bill and I ... oh, my gawd ... if I've forgotten to list anyone ... I'll pay for it !
But ... gotta run !

Drop me an email~

Thanks Martyjo for putting that info up.

St. Augustine is a beautiful city and the oldest in the CONUS...it has a lot of tourist attractions, including a Fort.  There are carriage rides and an Alligator farm.  Lots of stuff to do and see.

I am hoping to find a place for everyone to gather and having everyone be responsible for their own accommodation arrangements.

Dixie, that was, seriously, my point as well! lol....

The only concern we had was expense...We didn't want anything that might be too expensive for anyone.

cost is nothing compared to memories

we have plenty of time to save up
and I don't think it'd be that expensive if we partnered up...they have roll-away beds which I don't mind at all.

I think it's an absolutely wonderful idea and I'm looking forward to it!

I hope to get a bunch of people...Toe, Suthern? I would love to see Marge and Bill! Oh the memories we'd make and the pictures we'd take!

What about Dunc? I'd love that!

(The only guilty person in Shawshank, yanno.)

I still know how to "get things" tho.

But there's this black rock in my garden, and...

sigh.

Thanks for the offer though of the ride, tho, Dixie.

I will feel that I’m a voyeur
if this gathering comes to pass.
I never said I was a poet
I’m just a wantabe ...
but oh how much I love to read
and ponder other’s thoughts.

I am looking forward,
to meeting you this Fall.
so come this October I hope
that there will be
a wave of Pip’s favorites
sitting by the sea.

we’ll drink and dance and have some
fun and then you’ll sit and talk.
I will sit and listen and
most times be in awe.
but don’t think I’m
not hearing and
taking in it all.
Oh say you’ll come
Oh say you’ll come,
so we can have a ball.

martyjo, see you there?

I haven't given up but wonder if enough are reading or interested. I am so close that I can run over at the last minute. Check how close Palm Coast is to St.Augustine and Google Palm Coast. Things are popping here. But St.Augustine is so quaint and such a nice place to visit. We could  meet and have lunch and go browsing and meet again for dinner. An overnight is easy as there are many motels and hotels in every price range.

I had just been a little too optimistic I guess as I know there are more poets right in the two or three hour drive area. Georgia is not too far if there are Pipsters there. I would love to meet Balladeer and his wife and Sy and his wife. I hear so much about these great people.

I am bringing Jackie with me. In Fact she and I and her little boy are leaving tomorrow for Ct. Chase just turned seven and will be the ring bearer.  He has only been in Ct. in November so remembers it as having snow, and his visits to the turkey farm  where Jackie had worked every year since she was in highschool. His last airplane ride was when he was six months old as she  usually drove up. So this will be new to him also. She had to skip it last November because of the accident.

And Dixie of course I am most anxious to meet you. Have been reading you since 1998 or 1999. I read a whole year before  dropping in to the other site. Anyway. If it happens I will be there. won't be a "latearrival".

Neglected to say we are going up to attend my grandson's wedding. He is the one I once mentioned  Dixie, who is an EMT. He works at a clinic nights, drives ambulance days when needed, Coaches the high school girls soft ball team, is a registered umpire and keeps busy at that. He details cars and plows in the winter, helps a landscaper in summer. How he does it all is beyond me but he bought his own home last year at age 25. Has a sweet little red pick up  for every day and a larger pick up for plowing, both he bought himself and has finished paying for. I have thirteen grandchildren and three great grands, ages from 34 to 4 quite a spread. I married at not quite 17. My own kids are from 36 to 54 so that tells you the
story. LOL "late"

The poet meet was held in Florida the last time. I would come closer to being able to get to Kansas, than I can to Florida. But then, there would be a problem of money. Right now, I am not able to save any money, right now. But, I do wish I could meet you all.
