I disagree with their choice, particularly because he's already 78 (once you're 80, you're ineligible to run) and thus won't have a long reign as Pope, as well as I believe a Latino or African should have been chosen considering that other half of the world's 1.2 billion Catholics live in the developing continents of South America and Africa, and Europe is actually where the Church has shrunk in size, but I do offer my support here!

Yay for a new day for Catholics like myself!

Love,
Noah Eaton

This should make the conservatives happy, even as their numbers dwindle.
Word from his home country is that he has been at least controversial if not disliked by many there, for his stong support of conservative issues.  He comes from an area that remains the most conservative, at least in Catholic terms, in Germany.
But of course he has been in the Vatican for a very long time.
He also comes from the Vatican office that was once know as the Office of the Inquisition.  The same office that is dealing with the "naughty" American priests.  Interesting.
Thought he might take the name "Leo", the name taken by the last German Pope.
I'm curious about "Benedict".  Like to know what his personal reasons were for chosing that name.  Someone will probably tell us soon.

I didn't mean for this to become a debate or political thread, Krawdad, but I did start a new thread in The Alley where you can address those thoughts if you want.

I apologize if I have encouraged the thread to move this way. I really do want this thread to be a place where we can look up to a new chapter in the lives of Catholics like myself with hope and opportunity for the future ahead.

Again, I respectfully disagree with the choice, which politics have nothing to do with it, but I support him nonetheless and hope of great things from him.

Sincerely,
Noah Eaton

Noah he will have as long a reign as he lives..and he seemed in very good health and spirits today when he spoke...

Krawdad, not sure if this link will work if you don't have aol..but it explains some about the new pope and his choice of name http://aolsvc.news.aol.com/news/article.adp?id=20050416121309990001

Noah...if not here than where? This is tame compared to the two anti-catholic posts under the guise of humor seen in the last few days.

Richard, if I offended you or anyone by my 'Pope T'Art' comment in another thread, I truly apologize. It is NOT anti-Catholic in any way, shape or form. It was a pun. Granted, it is the lowest form of humor...but I certainly meant no disrespect.

Accept my apology please!

I didn't see any anti-catholic comments either. Maybe you just misinterpreted.

I think this thread has really been heading in the wrong direction here.

Again, I apologize if my initial comment may have encouraged an open debate. I was just trying to address my disagreement while also saying I will stand behind him regardless and hope of great things from him.

We can facillitate deeper discussion in the Alley thread.

Sincerely,
Noah Eaton

I wish him good health and leadership..though I think too many "worship" the preacher and not God, I feel as though they're all spiritual men with good intentions...Billy Graham with the protestants and the Pope with the Catholics..don't believe either is more spiritual than the other and neither should be "worshipped"....should be the worship of the words they carry from God.....Long live them both and hope all ministers of the gospel do their chosen paths successfully and honestly...

Remember it, Toe?
There are still members in these parts.
And I hear them grit their teeth when I drift by.
Love to tease 'em.
