Friends ... gather in prayer with me, please~

My sister's 21 year old daughter, Rachel Allison Siess, was in a serious, serious auto accident yesterday in Irvine, California.

Some one ran a red light and plowed into Rachel's car ... Rachel was eventually removed from the wreckage with the Jaws-Of-Life mechanism ... she was rushed to a hospital in Mission Veijo, California, where she was placed on life support.

Today, she was finally taken off the ventilator and remains in intensive care. SHe has sustained (hopefully) no serious head injuries.
She has five broken bones, a bone in her back, one of her arms (a compound fracture), one of her legs and the foot and heel are damaged. She suffered a broken nose and severe lacerations from the top of her head down to her eye.  No doubt she will be in for a long haul.

We are a wreck ... my sister and Rachel's brother and Rachel's father need prayers also~

We all know the power of prayer ... and they are much needed right now~
Thank you all ... I will update as I receive information~

Rachel continues in Intensive Care.
She has also suffered three pelvic breaks, has had Orthopedic surgery and some plastic reconstructive surgery already~

She opened her eyes for the first time today and was able to speak a few words.  These are POSITIVE signs and surely signs from above that the power of prayer is an AWESOME thing~

The family has asked that we thank all who are remembering Rachel in prayer ... and you already know that this lady thanks you ALL beyond measure~

As her brother, Eric, said to me, "We are so lucky Rachel is still with us today."

I will continue to update as I hear progress reports~
It's soooooooooo hard not to jump a flight and head out there ... but she is in the best of care and I may be needed for the long haul ... so am waiting~

Bless you all for your kindness~

Bones will heal eventually.

Friends~
I spoke with my sister today, and Rachel may be moved from Intensive Care tomorrow if all continues to improve in her condition~

She has had multiple plastic surgeries, the broken arm (elbow was protruding) has been set, her leg and foot are doing nicely after the repair work, the nose has been reset, the deep head gash is responding nicely~
The pelvic fractures are the most painful, and naturally they have had her highly doped~
They began weaning her from the morphine today ... hoping they don't have to do a body cast ... the plan right now is to see how she does with reduced medication and then make the next decisions~

She has no memory of the accident and is beginning to remember other things, so progress is happening for her~

Thank you all for the kind thoughts and prayers ... POWERFUL !

It doesn't rain, but what it pours ... last night Jon (Rachel's father) and Eric, her brother, were returning to the hospital in my sister's car when they were rear-ended.  Jon suffered a badly bruised back but Eric was unharmed ... THANK GOD !

Rachel's car was completely totaled in her wreck and now my sister's car is all messed up too~

Sooooo much to curse ... yet, so much to be thankful for ... and so we maintain the faith~

Again, my deepest and sincerest appreciation to each of you for caring ... genuinely caring~

Hopefully, I will return with better news as each day passes~

Deepest appreciation once more to each of you~

From my sister -
"Rachel is doing better each day.  She fatigues very quickly due to the drugs and the physical therapy.  Her facial injuries have healed a lot in the past six days.

Her arm is in a cast and her legs are in stockings which have current running through them to stimulate movement.  The worst of it is her pelvic area which is extremely painful with any movement at all, but that improves daily too.  The tests on her right knee is strained but we won't know the full extent until she can bear more weight on it.

All in all.....she's a miracle....and we are just plain happy to have her with us still.  Thank you God.

Please tell everyone who prayed for Rachel that she appreciated it from the bottom of her heart and the prayers were heard.
So I'm advising you accordingly for all those prayers for Rachel and her family!!  She should not have survived this.....and did."

In the email I got today, Lori said that Rachel might be transferred today to St. Jude's in Fullerton.
I will keep you wonderful people updated as we know more~

From the very heart of me ... I thank you ALL~

Friends~
Each day brings a blessing ... -

From my sister, "I brought Rachel home from the hospital today.  She was to be transferred to St.Jude's for rehab, but all of us felt she would do better at home.

An MRI was done on her right knee this morning and we'll know the results tomorrow or Wednesday.

She's tired, but glad to be home and not in another hospital.  She still has no memory whatsoever of the accident.
She's a bit cranky/depressed as you might expect, having a broken body, arm, nose, pelvis, heel half torn off, etc. and no recollection of how it got that way.

She tires easily but is spunky when she gets some rest.  That spunk is what enabled her to come home after only eight days.

She has multiple follow ups with three different physicians scheduled but all in all.....she's handling it well and I'm extremely proud of her.
I call her "my little miracle" now.
And she is.......

Jon's back seems to be ok from the accident he and Eric had in my car.

What an exciting little eight days we have had.  But... it's on the mend and we are feeling very blessed.
Big Smile.

Thanks again for your prayers and the prayers of your friends.
Hugs to you.......

Love,
~Lori~"

And THANK YOU ALL HERE AT PIP and AROUND THE WORLD FROM US ALL~
