I need someone to hold my hand,
and fix a pot of tea,
seems like the excitements
have a hold on me!

It just goes to show
that good will join the sad,
there are down days as we know,
but today is one of glad!

I know this poem is silly,
and doesn't make any sense
but if you keep on reading,
it really won't seem so dense!

LOL...

My little imp's way of sharing with all of you my bubbles of excitement...and I think the wave of it is just beginning.  Two weeks ago I submitted my manuscript to a publishing house.  I received word today that my book "is going to be given the chance it deserves."

Can anyone feel the grin?

On top of that, my brother is doing MUCH MUCH better...and going into Rehab for a couple of weeks and should be home some time before Christmas...

So, to our Wizard, Ron, and all of the poets here who have been so gracious and loving as to guide me, mentor me, advise and criticize me, thank you!  All of you have added to my literary experiences in the way of growth, given me opportunities to look outside the box, and enhance my education in ways that cannot even be counted...

Thank you!

/s/A newly hatched author

I knew you were writing a book, but never knew what about and what kind. Poems? Proze? Novel?

Anyway, they're right, you deserve to be read by a lot of people out there.
If any chance, I would like to obtain one when it's ready.

I would love to publish my photopoetry some time, but the problem is there's not much of a market overhere for photo's with English poetry. I'm working on my 'Into the Spider's world' booklet at the moment.

CONGRATULATIONS Sunshine, a well deserved reward for a beautiful lady.

Thank you all!  My manuscript is a novel that, yes!, contains some poetry!  It is a murder-mystery-history piece of fiction, and as all first novels seem to be, has a hint of what I do in real life in it...[that helps] and was about 450 pages or so in submission.  I don't know what the suggestions will be just yet during production editing, but hey...this is my first attempt, and first offer, so I'm eager to learn more, and the first thing I have to do is change the title, as the publishing house already has a book in the works that has a like or similar title....

ACK!

However, when I submitted the application, I said the title was "tentative" so now I have to dream up something else that will grab your eye when it's on a bookshelf.

And you KNOW I have a thing about titles!  LOL...and right now the bubbles of excitement are in my way and I cannot think of a thing, so everyone please wish me a good night's sleep so I awake with a title on my brain!

Thank you all...so many of you have nagged me so extremely well in the past...you were almost better than my Mom!

Love, K

Yes, Mysteria, you most certainly did.  Here I was, going merrily on my way, posting chapter by chapter here on PiP and you said, "hey Stupid!"  LOL...No, you didn't say it quite like that, but you DID encourage me to get it OFF the Internet [Thank you Ron!] and under my own wings until the darn egg finally hatched as a full blown novel...

Now we'll just see if we gave it wings, too!

Thanks for staying on the bandwagon, Mysteria!

Well, folks, the bad news is, the book isn't going to carry its' original title, due to the fact that the publishing house already has a book by that title [or similar title] in production.

The new name of the book?

Yesterday's Love

Sigh.

The contract is in negotiation process....

this is so much FUN!

but who knows what will come from this?

I'm talking to folks with a true story

I have a second novel that will spin off the first;

I have another novel in the beginning stages....

I have dreams, Sir, I have dreams....

and you know what?

They could all come true!

Wish me luck, please...

Thank you Betty, and Phil.  It IS rather exciting!

The contract negotiations have been reviewed, I am satisfied with their offers, and the original paperwork is now being snail-mailed.  Their request for more information and the W-9 have been sent and received, and ready to go back with the contract once it arrives and signatures have been affixed.

After that, I meet the production crew.

I remember when PiP went through all of the process and procedures to get all of their various anthologies out.  All I want for Christmas, then, this year, is a small box of patience and perspective.

It can be a very little box.  It really shouldn't weigh too much, so I imagine Santa could even tuck it into his pocket.  I don't particularly care what color the box might be, nor does it have to be wrapped up in foil, or carry any ribbons.

I just want to be able to open it up now and then, to remind myself that wonderful things come in small packages.  For I have a feeling that this very little dull and unadorned box is going to carry for me all of the best things I could ever imagine receiving, for the rest of my life.

So, if Santa is listening, that is it.  That is the only thing that is on my wish list.

For I have received everything else in the way of friends and family, and my dreams?  Well, they remain intact, as well.

Hugs, Friends.  Huge hugs.

Maureen, super baby...we've been through a lot!

Dautz, for a new member, you're finding yourself at home right off the bat.  I hope you find everything here that you've been looking for.  Thank you for the well wishes!

Kacy, believe it or not, you're not asking a "new" question!  Share a dream with someone, and chances are they are going to jump up and down with you, and FOR you!  That's what I've been experiencing, and it's a nice feeling!

No, it's a GREAT feeling!

This book is almost "three" years old  already...having started it in March 2002.  I have learned so much along the way.  You can probably all imagine that I did not expect it to be picked up first thing out of the shoot.  Heck, I figured it would find several series of eyes long before finding acceptance [outside of my Passions family, that is.]

And I would say that for every two people locally, one has asked, "so when is the movie coming out?"  LOL...one very kind friend doesn't ask "when", she's making plans for me to pick out the cast now.  ROFL...

I worked 12 hours Sunday on the sequel.  I am just as excited to work on this one as I was to work on the first.  Simply because of all of you.

Those of you who read the first few chapters...you were all marvelous inspiration.  But the biggest thing of this for me is the "sharing".

Yes, that's the biggest thing...

Thank you all for your wonderful comments, and marvelous attitude.  I hope to soon see many more "successes" of acceptance by publishing houses from many of our poets and prose writers.

Because [and here's the cliche]...if I can do it...so can most of you...[and I say most, because I know we have a LOT of readers here, and don't try their hand at all in writing.  Won't it be wonderful for us, when they do???]

Yea, one happy camper here...

Oh Sharon, I do hope both you AND Larry are grinning.  You see, in the beginning of the prose piece that led to the novel, Larry sent me a note saying, "I can't read it...it's not my thing..." and that didn't deter me....

You said, "get it off the internet before someone steals it..." and by that time, I was too far gone in the storyline to stop...in fact, there were mornings at 4:00 a.m. that I thought it would never end...and yet...

it's not THAT big a book...

Sharon, I do want to thank you here, and ask anyone who is still reading this thread to check here,
/pip/Forum3/HTML/003399.html

and add your well wishes and whatever to Ron for all that he gives us in cyberspace...

I know he did several things for me, outside of getting my name published in three Poetry Anthologies by Passions in Poetry....

He taught me various nuances of my own computer[s];

He helped to rid me of my inherent shyness, and apply readily the use of people coping skills that I already knew with faceless, two-dimensional PiP posters...[albeit there is still some shyness remaining to this day];

he took on the huge task [job?] of having published three anthologies so that I can exhibit, with pride, that I am accepted as one among, at least, 8000 peers...;

and at times he puts up with my humor, even if it comes none to soon...

and we've got to admire a man like that!

So today, I am proud to add to this bit of hand-holding...in that I received the seven page Author Questionnaire and "do this" list.  Wow!  What an education!  This takes us directly into the Production Process.  I have optional dedication and acknowledgement pages...

I have to have some professional photos taken...

I have to reformat the manuscript to "my" satisfaction before the editor gets his/her hands on it....

and besides getting the copyright [which is accepted at any time by the publishers], preparing a bio [I need help! with that!!] and possibly submitting cover ideas....

I get to allow them 100 names of friends and associates [no business, organization, bookstores, media or government organizations...pssst, I think they cover those bases... ]

Hey...if you want YOUR name on my list? Let me know, please...because I would NOT do it without YOUR consent!  Even though I consider you friends...

Or course my relatives have no say over that...

"Friends and Associates only..."

They have no clue...LOL

NOW FOR THE BIG QUESTION:

1.b.  Your ame as you wish it to appear on the title page.

Dang it...always the BIG questions.

My full name would cover front to back, I'm afraid...

So...

K. R. Jungel?
Karilea R. Jungel?
KRJ?

or do we use Sunshine???

LOL...

Decisions, decisions.  This is as much fun as wrapping presents!

As things proceed, I'll be checking in...

but for now?

I'm going to disappear for a wee while!

Hugs everyone, and thank you all for the wonderful support!

SIL, Cathy called me tonight just to share this wonderful news with me and told me to get in here with my congratulations!  I'm so glad she called because this is the very best news I've heard this month.  If you want to add me (and my feelings won't be hurt, honestly, if there are so many you don't have room.....please list me as Jo Alderson Powell.  But, they definitely will be hurt if you don't sign a 1st edition copy for me (because my fingers are crossed for multiple printings) and for the copy let me pay you.   and much laud!  .......jo

Karilea, will it be available through Amazon?  They have a canadian distribution for us up here, and it could be purchased there I bet?

I suppose your distributor takes care of where it is distributed from though I bet?

Have you started a sequel?

Amazon, Waldenbooks, Borders is a few of the stores they distribute to, but yes, Sharon, they pretty much keep the ball rolling.

On Tuesday I received a seven page E-mail of "things to do" in the next four weeks.  I'm scrambling!  I continue to be very pleased with their professionalism in today's e-mail age.  E-mail is just speeding up the process.

Some of the things I have to do is apply for the copyright; get a mailing list of 100 names for notification to family and friends that the book is coming out [I am going to see if they will let me enlarge that list!!!] and please note, there are addresses literally all around the world on this list, thanks to PiP; I am required to reformat the manuscript to single space  before submitting it to the Editor; I have to pay special attention to graphics; I need to decide into which genre this story falls [and I can only pick one...]; I need to provide photographs...etc.

Trust me, I've been busy this week!

Yes, Sharon, the potential for a sequel was written into the first book, and I am about 3/4 of the way through with it.  Then today, while on IM with my brother [who is doing much better, thank you everyone!] he turned a prose piece I sent him around, and said, "Sis, you have a story here..." and he tossed out ONE idea and my mind when scampering!  Geez...he's right!  So once the second book is done, I'll be very busy on a third...

life is so good in so many ways...

Yes, this is exciting! I am so happy for you dear Karilea.

I think your full name sounds perfect!
Karilea R.... Jungel. Yes I would also add the second name ... if it's not longer than Karilea.

You can add me to your list.

Love and hugs.

I like the full name best too.

And you may add me to your list too if that's possible. If not it's no big deal, I suppose you will anounce the 'birth' yourself here on PIP?

We're a member of Amazon too so I will be able to purchase a book when it's for sale.
My husband orders aquarelle art books all the time at Amazon. Works very well.

Good luck Karilea.

Karilea is such a pretty and unusual name, I think you should use it, plus your initial and last name.  Please add me to your list, if it isn't already filled up!
This sounds soooooo exciting!

Now is the pregnant time...

Two weeks and two days ago, I received, as you read above, the publishing house's seven page "do all this in one month" e-mail.  A very comprehensive list of to-do's, at first I was overwhelmed.  One month?  I am VERY familiar with deadlines for others...and now the term "deadline" became very personal, and somewhat bewildering.

Could I get it all done, even during the holiday season?  My timing for submitting the application apparently sucked!  I heard back from the publishing house MUCH too fast!  Where in the world was the "wait, wait, be patient" time?

I e-mailed the completed package in this morning, 5:09 a.m. CST.

Pass the eggnog, please.

And as I said, now comes the pregnant time.  Their editor has to read through everything, paginate the book, the production team needs to prepare the book cover, etc. etc.

So while I become mentally fat with the wait, perhaps my nerves will diet me thin...

I want to thank everyone for their e-mails, good wishes, encouragement, nagging, and the love I have felt from all of you.

Merry Christmas!
