As I pen this, Gaston is slamming South Carolina~
Hoping that all friends will be safe in the path of this hurricane~
Hoping to hear from our poets along the Carolina's and all up the Eastern coast line ... safe ... be safe~

And the horror brewing by the name of Frances is a monster that appears to be heading Florida's way~
Folks ... if ever we need your prayers ... this is the time !!!

This is a BIG, BIG one ... and it already has me nervously anxious~

Prepared ? ... oh sure, to the extent we can prepare ... but dreading each update !

Okay, yes...I love the hurricanes, and tornados.  I am completely fascinated by them.  I am an odd bird.

This next one has me on edge...

Stay tuned its going to be a rough labor day weekend for some of us in Florida I think.

I agree with Marge.  I have this sick feeling in the pit of my stomach about Frances.  I've had nervous energy all weekend, partly because of Gaston that came to see us, but mainly because of what's coming up behind him.  I've been in my nesting stage, as hubby calls it.  Getting everything in order in case we have to leave.  You can never be too prepared.  We have a family rule here - anything greater than a high category 2, we evacuate.  After feeling Hugo skirt by us a few years ago I don't want to be around with anything bigger than he was.

Laughing at Poet D....

Us South Carolinians are watching Frances
like a hawk....all we can do is prepare and
see what comes of it......Gaston gave us
some wind and rain...some power outages,
a few trees down...overall fairly forgiving.

This next one might be a little different.

The Monstercane continues to grow and the predicted path to landfall is frightening for so many of us~

Our family members, and Bill and I, have made evacuation plans if Frances continues in the path towards us.  We are only 20 miles inland, just East of Daytona Beach ... so we will most likely be on the move by Friday morning, as we continue tracking this storm.

Will be in touch when we can~
Keep us all in prayer, as we do all of you~

I am in touch with several of our Florida poets ... all are making plans to evacuate their areas for safer ground~

PoetDeVine ... you be safe !
Sorry to indoctrinate your first season here in this manner, but those darn storms just have no manners at all~

Keeping all in prayer as we make our own evacuation plans~

Emotionally difficult to leave your homefront under circumstances like this, but survival kicks in and we do what we must do~
All of my family and loved ones have their plans in place, some have left already and most will leave tomorrow~

Will return when we can and will try to log on somewhere along the line, if we can, just to report our safety~

Above all ... be safe ... please be safe~

This has been an especially difficult year for me..leaving my home of 35 years...staying with my daughter and her hubby for 5 months..and NOW, just when I get a job and a place to live, this happens. I really feel like I'll never be settled.

I am praying really hard that this thing passes us by...not sure my emotions can handle a major disaster right now...

(to top it off, the woman across the street and her bedridden mother have NO place to go...the city has a shelter for people with special needs, but she is not sure she wants to leave her house...and she has no plywood for the windows..they are going to hunker down in a hallway...her name is Barbara..please keep HER in your prayers...as well as all those who don't have the ability to get out of town.

Geesh. Best I can find, there are 16,713,149 people residing in the state of Florida. Sharon, I honestly think you should gather them altogether, including your family, and move everyone back to Phoenix. It's just as sunny and a whole lot safer!

(Vicky, if you're reading this, I suggest you leave for work a little earlier tomorrow morning. Might be some traffic jams coming your way. )

Best wishes for everyone!

Good thinking Ron but there are more cases of West Nile Virus in Arizona than any other place..hmm...every place has it's drawbacks.

I talked to my mom one last time tonight before tomorrow's trip and she again suggested I move to Michigan....never thought I'd say this, but it looks mighty tempting to me now.

Thank you all for your kind thoughts...there are a lot of people who will need prayers and much more in the coming days....this is going to be a big one I'm told.

Now if we all got together and BLEW towards the east, would Frances get moved out to sea????

LOL... thanks for the heads-up, Ron...

Hm... maybe I should just leave the state till the traffic clears...

and PdV?... you're right about the West Nile Virus... but it does seem to be tapering off a bit... and yanno?.. they're needing more people to drive the trucks that they use for the night time mosquito fogging... so perhaps if you all showed up with giant pesticide foggers on your vehicles?... we could kill two birds with one stone, so to speak... you'd all be safe from Francis' wrath... and you'd be helping to fight West Nile... all at the same time... LOL

Seriously, though...

All you Floridians, please do stay safe, okay?...

You and your families are all in my thoughts and prayers...

I'm evacuated to Tampa...

The house is 3600 sq. ft., my room has it's own bath (marble shower), the family room has a big screen TV, the enclosed back porch has a pool, a full kitchen for cookouts, a fish pond, a Jacuzzi, a pool table and a dining area. I think I'm in HEAVEN!!!

We are finding it hard to get info on our area as most of the news is about what's heading HERE. We know there is lots of wind but are not sure what's happening...

Our trip here was interesting. We averaged 18 miles an hour on the Turnpike. We could have saved gas and PUSHED the car that fast!

As soon as the storm passes our area, we are heading back. My son is considered essential and I can also do some good by being among the first wave back.

We hope everyone is safe..those that didn't evacuate..and those that will travel home in the next week.

Thank you all for your prayers.

Glad to hear you got outta there~
Here we are beginning to feel the outer bands of the wind with some rain squalls~
Nothing too threatening as of yet ... but caution continues~
The entire town resembles a ghost town with so many taking the saged advice and heading for higher ground~

Our home fortress is where we have decided to hunker down for the duration, with a backup plan at a local shelter, if necessary~

All of my family members have reported in ... and son and daughter-in-law in Tampa are sitting on ready to evacuate that area if the storms crosses the state and enters the Gulf~

Glad you checked in ... stay in touch~

The power is also now out in the Tampa area where Sharon is, so we were talking on her cel phone, while I was telling her the weather situation down there around her, and at her regular resident home, (amazing this internet isn't it?)

Sharon said the storm had passed over their home but she was not sure of any damage as yet.  The power had been out over 8 hours where she is from, and that would mean all food and food in stores was ruined, so everyone would be eating canned goods, etc. until that got rectified.

Titia had earlier given us that link to great coverage of Frances, and through that link I found  one close to most of our friends down there that broadcasts live coverage.

I do pray all of you stay safe, and will have no loss to report. I'll hope it doesn't come to you having to leave for a shelter either with your families. God bless and protect you all.

I am amazed at how much of Frances we got yesterday and last night here in Jacksonville.

We lost power on and off for about 8 hrs, the neighbors tree (it's a small one) is now in my yard..

Few tornados touched down here and there and there is some flooding downtown by the water.

I hope everyone else is okay.  Check in when you can please?

Great news on Poet DeVine - Talked to her in the car a minute or so ago on the road with her family, and they are about 2 hours away from home.  The power in their area was back on this morning, so that's a big bonus.  She was laughing and that is a good sign.  We had to end our conversation as the weather got really bad but at least they are all safe and going home. I sure hope everyone leaves their shutters up for now.

Now we need to hear from the rest of our poetic friends, and know all is well with them.  Thank goodness for shelters, friends, and family in these times.  In the meantime we can all just hold them in our prayers.

Glad to hear you are all okay!

Balladeer, funny, when I heard of the approaching storm, I instantly thought of you not being able to play golf for a while and how grumpy that would make you...hehehe...don't worry, better days are ahead!

Golf courses are open around much of the rest of the nation...take a much-deserved vacation!  Glad to hear that you are ALL ok, and that the most you lost for a while was electricity...

Here with thankfulness and some tears~
Our family members are okay ... alive and we are blessed~

My brother, Tony, lost his home to a huge Oak that crunched it.  So sad, so very, very sad~

We lost power on Saturday evening around 11 p.m. ... just restored phone and electric service.

Friends ... whatever you saw on T.V. ... it's worse than that~
Our community/county/town looks like such huge destruction~
Probably over 2000-3000 trees down ... homes and cars crushed.

Our meadow is forever changed ... majestic oaks are down all along the perimeter of our acreage, but no major damage to our home (some roof shingle damage to the garage/workshop)

I'll be back tomorrow after some much needed rest and when emotions are more in-check~
Keeping the prayers for all of those in the path of this storm ... she was VICIOUS !

Ah Marge I am so sorry about any loss you and your family endured.
I know I would have been scared to death.
You get some much needed rest and thank you for checking in.
We were all so worried about you!

Hurricane Frances is on her way out. I am so relieved. After 48 hours with no power,no shower and no phone, I am very happy to report that we have a huge mess in the yard with tree limbs, but no one was injured. I live in Jacksonville and they say all we got was tropical winds from Frances. How horrible for those further south who got the worst of the storm.
I am so very sorry for those who have suffered far greater loses than my few days of inconvience.

Hugs,
Deb

Marge, I am so very sorry that nature changed your immediate landscape knowing how you love it.  I will hope it returns to you soon in a state that will make you smile again.  So tragic about the trees, and your brother's home, but you all are safe and still have each other.  Our prayers were certainly with all of you down there, and I am so glad you got to shelter and stayed safe.  Personally, never I have I felt so helpless or useless in my entire life. I hope this is over now for you folks, and nothing else comes your way.

Dear Marge:

What major heartache for so many!  Just so thankful that you and your family survived!
What an unbelieavably horrible experience.
Your yard will come back in time and you have a wonderful photo record of what it has been! A verysmall blessing! So good to hear from you!

Dear Marge

We all here in PiP have been on tenterhooks praying for you and your families safety as well as the rest of Florida's residence.  We have all been anxious to hear from you and I can let out a sigh of relief knowing that you and your family are okay.  I'm sorry to hear about the damage you and your family have incurred, but the main thing is that you still have each other.

Dear Marge, I am so sorry to hear the bad news regarding your brother's house and all the rest. I am impressed by the terrible destructive power of these hurricanes.
Glad to hear you and your family are fine though. It's hard to cope with such events. Your beautiful garden!
You continue to be in my thoughts and prayers.
May the series stop!
Love and hugs.

Just heard from my daughter who arrived back from Hilton Head, SC ... her apartment complex is damaged with water leakage into her apartment and her boyfriend's home in Daytona Beach is also water damaged.

Son, David and family are headed home right now from Georgia !
Pray them safe~

Marge, no margin of nature is easy on anyone...especially when we live on the fringe, even when we are in the middle!  I thank God that no lives were lost...and I know that you and your family will pull together...as families do.

All I can send for now are my prayers, and my "hugs" in knowing that from the beginning, we were one.  The Spirit that brought us together, will keep us safe...

You and I both know...there is more than we know.
