I thought I would let everyone know that my little sis, Cathy (aka Miscellanea), fell in a hole last weekend and broke her leg.  After seeing her orthopedist today and further x-rays, it was determined that not only was her leg broken, but also her ankle.  The doctor is going to perform surgery and insert pins.  Cathy will be having the surgery this Friday.  I do not know the details of how long she will be there yet.  I hope you all will keep her in your thoughts or prayers.  Thanks a bunch.  .....jo

Karen, thanks....I'll let Cathy know.  She is rather worried about this as she just went through a gallbaldder surgery this spring and afraid of the anesthesia (I think).  She said she would be off work for about three months, so I suspect we'll be seeing much more writing from her over that course of time.  *hugs back*

Please let Cathy know she doesn't have to go to such lengths to avoid me...   On a more serious note, give her my love and tell her I'll say a special little prayer...I'm like her in a lot of ways when it comes to doctors and such...

Sunshine, lol, she was camping with her son and husband with a bunch of star gazers (so apparently no flash lights) and she said she just didn't see where she was walking and stepped into a big hole....and could not get her foot out until a good samaritan who just happened to be versed in first aid came along and helped.  I suspect she'll be around this week since she can't go anywhere....that is if she can make it to her computer, poor kid!

Chris, I will and I'm going to ask her to take a look at this post, too.  She'll probably be in looking around until Friday if she can make it to the computer.  Thanks.

I'm sorry to hear about her accident, Joe...ouch!  My son just broke his arm when the chain on his bike broke.  My thoughts are with Kathy at this time, as well as him.

Martie, I hope your son's arm heals rapidly.  I broke my arm when I was 12 trying to do a cowgirl trick on my pony by dismounting via grabbing a tree branch....guess what.  I missed the branch and Silver kept going!  Double fracture and refractured before the cast even came off when I slipped on some ice a couple months later.  That arm of mine will never break in the same place again...the doctors guaranteed it!   Thanks for your wishes for Cathy....I'll pass them on to her.   ....jo

tHANKS Everyone!  When I do something, I do it right!  Clarification:  when they first x-rayed,they only x-rayed my ankle to my shin. They told me I broke my tibia right above the ankle. Today, the orthopedist took another x-ray above the shin.  I completetely broke the fibula a little below the knee, as well.  He says he'll need to pin it in three places, as he thinks the ligments from the ankle upward are probably harmed.  So in effect he'll pin the part of the tibia that looks like a dog bone together, and then he'll pin the tibia and fibula together if his guess about the ligaments is accurate.

All in all, I did see a couple of meteors and met some real nice folks. Tidbit: How far can one see with the naked eye?  2.4 million light years into the Andromeda galaxy.  Pretty fascinating stuff!  Heck, with sight like that, the doctors should do pretty well close up!

Thanks for all your kind words, thoughts, and prayers.

I knew there was something up with Cathy, just didn't know what (was hoping it was something good!). Sad to hear she's hurt...

Jo,
thanks for giving us the news

Cathy,
listen to your doctors and keep yourself rested! Oh, and get better fast... just do lots of writing until then

Prayers are on their way.

Always, Alyssa

Sounds pretty painful, 3 months eh? Hopefully you won't drive your loved ones or yourself too crazy lol. I know what pins are like... first couple weeks will be sore, then you'll get cabin fever :P We gotcher aspirin right here *wink*

Very best wishes for successful surgery and healthy recovery hon. Sending hugs your way.

Thank you All so much!  I need to get into the computer room more often so the responses don't build up--would rather write to each one of you with a personal response!
I really appreciate your comments and prayers!  Each day, it seems more painful than the last-can't wait until the next couple of weeks is over!  Comparitively, I can live easily with cabin fever!!!
  Smiling at you, cathy.

Sunshine,
You know me too well.  Today I was really naughty and had my daughter take me to get my hair cut--couldn't stand the long hair bedhead any longer and figured it'd be safer to cut it before surgery.  It's a lot cooler now which is great (I think our air-conditioner might have just taken a  reprieve)  But, I did pay for being naughty! I had no idea that they had moved the town a couple of hours away (so it seemed!)- I should have read your note ahead of time and just maybe I'd been a good girl!  Probably not, can't teach an old dog new tricks!  Thanks for your prayers.  I very much appreciate them.

          luv ya,
            miscellanea

Magnus,
Yes, super fortunate to have the great family I have.   As, to the writing?  Who knows, but I sure appreciate the invitation.  Thanks for your response, Magnus.

Ed's always behind the news....serves me right for checking this forum once a week or so.....

Hope it's not too painful, and pain or no, I hope it doesn't restrict access to ye olde computer....yep, that's a hint -- two hints, in fact.....

Ed,
It's usually I who am behind--don't feel bad!  As for the comjputer thingee, it's rather uncomfortable right now.  Last night, I would love to have had a spiral notebook, pen, a nightlight, and my last Discover magazine that spoke of Einsteins theories.  I dreamed I learned how to stop pain through a combined use of light waves and sound waves.  Crazy dream it was, but then it made some sense.  Wish I could remember the bits and pieces!  Thanks for stopping in.  I'll catch you later when I'm fresher.
