Gads, has it been a year already?  YEP!  Here's your chance to be heard [if you are not already promoting yourself]!  Salina, Kansas, will be airing "Celebration of Freedom of Speech Day" on May 22, 2004.

Last year I brought this to all of you, and had a wonderful assemblage of PiP's Poets' poetry to pick and choose from.  What I did was design an 8.5 x 14 brochure, folded in fourths, printed front and back with THEIR poetry and THEIR art on it for distribution under THEIR name, town/state/country.

Would you like a chance to submit to me your poetry for this year's event?  I would certainly like to share, once again with our town, the world of poetry as I know it.  With the freedom of Your Voices from all around the world.

Please, let me know no later than May 15 if you wish to tag along on this wonderful excursion into a Celebration of Freedom of Speech.  As I did last year, I will mail you copies of the brochure, if you wish, if you will provide me [confidentially] with your address.  Otherwise, all I require is your real name, city [optional], state and/or country.

I hope you help me out again this year.  It was a huge hit last year, and I was asked again tonight when I appeared for Open Mic, if I would be coming again for the Celebration of Freedom of Speech Day, and would I be bringing my friends along.

May I tell them, "Yes!"?

Bridget Schenachie and I, of Prairie Inkwells, Kansas, thank you!

It was a great pleasure to participate last year and I certainly want to make a contribution this year.

You may count me in.

Muted, this is your chance to talk to the world.  Our "guidelines" are like PiP's...no foul language, and this is a chance to give a view of your part of the world!

If you send me something directly via e-mail, I can take attachments in Word, etc., and if I cannot?  I will let you know, so you can send it to me via E-mail, etc.

It's a chance to speak your mind, of your world, your perceptions, your doings.  Oh, did I say...I would hope it could be positive?  [Sigh...that's my nature...]

Send it to me.  We'll talk.

Karilea, I loved it last year, and was just wondering...
It's still supposed to be kind of short? right?

Oh, I forgot to say, I'd like to send something in.

Right, Ethel.  In giving everyone a shot, poems that are too long, ergo, that will take up more space, would be appreciated by me, but won't be used in the brochure.  I know I had tankas, and very good short free verse and rhyming poems.

I'm going to be gone until Sunday afternoon - if anyone comes up with a theme, or would like to see a centralized idea, go ahead and put them in here and you all can decide which you would most like to work on.

If you wish to send me your work via e-mail, either in the body, or as an attachment, I use Word.

And I'm really excited to see what you folks are planning to submit!

Is there anyway we can purchase a tape of the show???

I think so, Susan, yes.  Let me check into that.  I know the few tapes I have purchased have started at $15.00.  I can see if the tape can be purchased directly from Access TV.

On the alternative, I can tape it, have it copied at MidAmerica Productions here in town.  I am not sure of the cost [if you want the entire taped program, or just the section of reading of your poetry] and that may be a bit less expensive.

Good question. Let me do my research, I'll get back to you.

What a line up to start with...[drum roll...]

We have

Ringo - Concrete Mattress
Betty Lou - I'd Like to Live Forever
Gentle Spirit - One Voice
Susan - Facing Death
Titia - Our Freedom of Speech
Iliana - Upon the Warp of Sacrifice [Jo, is that the correct title?]
Jeff - Colors of Freedom
Kellie - Each time I glance into her eyes [Kellie, I need a title, please.]
muted - Not a Dime
Magnus - Taps
Dark Angel - Serenity

I talked to the director tonight.  He said that he's operating the format a little different than last time...I will have ten minutes airtime, and I think last year I only had five.  He's also picking and choosing who will perform this year, and he was very glad I was coming back, and even happier, yet again, that I was bringing in poetry from "all around the world."

I am going to extend my "deadline" to May 16 [so if I am real lucky, I can fill up the entire brochure with everyone's poetry except mine!]

So, if the bump of this back to the top reminds you that yes, you too were going to participate, you Still Have Time to get yours in!

Oh, by the way...questions have been asked about getting a copy of the tape...I still have to check into that!  I'll keep you apprised.

Thanks, everyone, for your wonderful participation!  I think I'm going to be looking forward to this event every year!!!

What a wonderful experience it was to have been a part of last year's event. Thank you again, Karilea, for allowing me to participate last summer.
I just got back online last night (Oregon) so too late for me this time around, but am happy that so many Pipster writes are being presented!

From the Access TV coordinator:
quote:
Karilea,

Sorry it's taken me so long to get back to you. This year's events are really scaled-down from last year's 10th Anniversary celebration, so many of the things you saw last year won't be here Saturday.
You are more than welcome to bring flyers about your group! Tape copies of the program are 15 dollars...people need to stop by Access and fill out a "Duplication Request Form" at the front desk to order their own copy.
We won't be using the telepromtor for the speakers at Free Speech Day. So...you'll be reading from your notes or papers at the podium. There is no way to get the 'promptor close enough to the podium to read without blocking the view of anyone in our audience.
I'd like to have you at Access by no later than 1:45. The program starts at 2pm...and we'll have you in the audience until your time to speak. I'm still finalizing the clock for the show...and may not know a more exact time until Friday afternoon.
Thanks for taking part in this year's event!!

Paul Archer

And there you have it.  Those of you who wish to have a copy of the full event now have the price of the tape.  However, I am going to tape it at home, too, and will be calling a local tape production place today to find out how much just a portion [15 minutes] of taping would cost to duplicate.  If it is under $15.00, I'll let you know.

Hey Kacy!  So good to see you!!!

Ok...I've done a little checking.  Mid America Productions will copy a 10-15 minute VHS tape for $9.00.  Shipping within the US would run about 1.98; shipping outside the states will range from $6.40 to $7.10 in addition to the cost of the tape.

Once this is over and done with, we'll talk tapes...
