Noah- I say this with all possible respect, however I believe this prostest is slightly naive. Do I believe that missile attacks are probable? no. Do I think they ever were? Not really. The Soviets realized that we were just as prepared to destroy them as they were to destroy us. I realize that the threat of an Eastern Bloc attack has diminished to the point of being a laughable thought, however there are others in this world who do not have the slightest qualm with using missiles to threaten other nations. There are nations like Pakistan, Iran, India, N. Korea, Israel, Syria, and many others who have atomic weapons. Not all of these nations are a threat to the US or Cananda specifically, however they are a threat to each other, which in turn makes them a threat to us. India and Pakistan haven't been the best of friends, and if one of them so much as sneezes, the other is on full alert, and ready to attack. And Pakistan has threatened to give its Theater Commanders the authority to use whatever means possible to repel the other. The Former Soviet Union is so broke that the military is not defending its posts properly and the missiles are being sold to feed its citizenry. For that reason, we need a strong missile defense. It was that defense that kept us safe before, and it is that defense that will keep us safe now. That being said, You do have a passion, and I respect that highly, as misguded as I might feel it to be, and I wish you the continued courage of your convictions. Some people are like Slinkies . . . not really good for anything, but you still can't help but smile when you see one tumble down the stairs... |

With all due respect, I find it more naive racing to retrieve the missiles! And what defense is there? We are accelerating deeper in the wrong direction, and at this rate no one will feel safe in this world. In my mind, NOW is the time to free ourselves from these mental strait jackets before we end up blowing each other up!
