My Passionate Poet friends - Let's gather round one more time for Lyra if we could.  SuperDave has a special request for us and hopes we can help him.  I think we can manage a little favor for Lyra, can't we??

Here's Dave's request
quote:

>Hi Nan
>
>I know its been a while since you have heard from me,
>and here I am asking for something. Have been trying
>to design a headstone for Lyra and want to put a
>stanza from one of her poems on the back, 4 to 6 lines
>with "Madame Chipmunk" below it. The problem is that I
>am having a hard time deciding what would be best. My
>thought for you to consider is that the poets at PiP
>could choose it.....

So, what do you say, folks?  Take a few minutes and check out Lyra's (nearly) complete poetry at http://chipmunk.netpoets.net/ - and come back with some suggestions on this thread, OK?

Don't forget to have an ample supply of tissue before you start.  Lyra could bring us to tears easily before she left us, she'll surely do that to us now... And THANK YOU in advance from Dave...

I'll start looking in the morning.  What a wonderful thing for SuperDave to ask...and what a lasting memorial in all of our hearts.

Poet deVine

The length of the lines shouldn't be a problem. But to get a decent letter height we need to keep it to six lines and a signature of "Madame Chipmunk". I have a picture of her first husband's headstone that I could post so that everyone can have a better idea of what is needed.

HUGE SMILES... Affectionately remembering that Lyra had kept Monty's campaign posters adorning his stone... What a great attitude, eh?

your song filled with glee
the wind at your back
you're flying free

when the road of life has reached it's end
where footsteps trod no more
at the gateway to eternity
a place where spirits soar

She always wrote so beautifully. There are so many of her poems I love.

Hi Dave!
You don't know me....But "The Iron Chipmunk" will forever a treasured memory.

This one spoke of her to me

"when the road of life has reached it's end
where footsteps trod no more
at the gateway to eternity
a place where spirits soar"

Hi Dave, hope you are well. Chippymunk is always in my heart and this is such a wonderful idea. I agree with wranx as to those few lines being my favourite as well. Lyra's words were always so beautiful... hugs to you, Chris

This.....

in the boundless sweep of forever
where time and space can't be explained
ruled by light and justice
where peace and beauty reign

or this.....

at the crossroads of past and future lives
insight too vast to comprehend
are the echoes of souls at peace
resting forever, beyond the end

It's so hard to choose just one.
Bless you, Dave.

after I die, my body will lie neath an old oak tree
it's gnarled roots, reaching heavenward with glee
as if praying to be born again as branches
to sway in the breeze to dance leafy dances
to be covered in green
in this sacred place, serene

This says it for me, Dave....

Dave...Hardly a day goes by that Lyra doesn't cross my mind. I would have loved  to have met her, she always sounded so full of life thru her poetry.

I liked the following from one of her last poems. "Cloudrise"
Take Care Dave...Paul
_______________________________________________________________________
quote

Morning clothed in soulful hazy drear
paint my stormy heart with sultry cheer
oh rain and thunder, lightning come to me
unchain the muse within me...set her free
________________________________________________________________________

Through these words I believe she was telling us in her own way she was ready to go and be set free from her pain and suffering

"To share my poems with you is to share my heart with you"

This is so lovely. Yes, Dear Dave, the tears are freely flowing...

Love to you and your family

Since she never wrote a bad line, it's really very hard to choose. And right this moment my eyes are once again too wet to read. But I promise later to read and pick something, though what Ed and Karilea have highlighted are both excellent.

Anything from the poem "Beyond the End"  would be beautiful, but I must agree with the lines wranx (Ed) highlighted. They ARE Lyra.

Hi Dave, hope you're ok. What a lovely thought of letting her passion friends help you seeking lines for her stone.

These are my choice:

the tears of clouds have reason
they paint the world shiny
washing away the sadness of yesterday
revealing the truth
and the beauty
beneath all being

*****

ruled by light and justice
where peace and beauty reign
at the crossroads of past and future lives
insight too vast to comprehend
are the echoes of souls at peace
resting forever, beyond the end

I'm sure you'll find the right lines for her.

She's always in my thoughs this Chipmunk.

Love, Titia

HI Dave, what a hard choice. I think I agree the most with Ed's(Wranx), and several others seem to have chosen that also. But the others are all beautiful as well. It will be wonderful whichever one you choose.

"memories triggered, of past happy times
if only the cosmic clock would re-wind
and take me back to years in the past
I'd never again live my life so fast"

All such beautiful selections.. a wonderful lady she was, and a wonderful poet..

Oh, make me Thine forever
And should I fainting be
Lord, let me never ever
Outlive my love for Thee

I sent you mine via email but this is a favorite of mine from her and strangely it was a dedication to her first husband and son, Eric.  Would be beautiful as she was such a free spirit, Dave.

so, butterfly...please flutter by
remind us that we never die
and loved ones whom we thought had gone
live on, somewhere...somewhere beyond

soaring through the earthly mists
to enter heaven's timeless bliss
casting off their human forms
like you, from your cocoon...reborn
