Our sweet Madame Chipmunk
Renay/Lyra Piercey-Nesius
(April 13, 1944-March 18, 2003)

Lyra passed on comfortably today, with her loving husband, David, and her family by her side.  She was a wonderful and giving lady, and will be sorely missed by all of us here at Passions in Poetry...

Here's a glimpse into her heart

Renay/Lyra and David Nesius
Dave has been beside her through every moment of her illness

Renay/Lyra with her two boys - 20ish years ago

Renay/Lyra and her sister Marlys

Renay/Lyra and her late son Eric, who no doubt greeted her with a great big hug today

We love you Passionately, dear friend
God Bless you in your journey

God gave to us His Cherubim
To bless our trek on mortal shore.
Her golden heart and smiling face
Bestowed on us eternal grace.
An angel now at heaven's door ~
Bequeathed to Him our Seraphim

I will miss her and I loved everything about that little

May God and the angels be with her, and may somehow peace find a way to David's heart at this time as he was her rock!  My sincere condolences to the family, and I hope you will all find the strength needed to get through the painful days ahead.  Lyra, you were loved, and will be sadly missed.

I can't put the whole poem here, but most people are familiar with the poem "He only takes the best". Let us rejoice that our friend is at peace, and is free of her pain... but let us also pray for her family, who's pain has only begun.

"Ye now are sorrowful
But Ye shall again behold Me
And your heart shall be joyful
And your joy no man taketh from you"

Rest in peace and in the comfort and joy of the Lord.

Oh, make me Thine forever
And should I fainting be
Lord, let me never ever
Outlive my love for Thee

Remember?... in Tampa she said:

"When you come to Michigan on poets meeting and I'm not there....then David will show you where to find me"

She was some lady and I will miss her terribly. I'll keep her memory close to heart.

David...she couldn't have found a better mate at her side, thank you so much for loving her.

Lyra, my sweet friend I will miss you so much. Our long phone conversations always brought both of us many giggles. I know you are at peace longer have to suffer pain.  I am sure you were welcomed into Heaven by two people who you have missed and loved desperately.

Dave, may you and the family find peace and comfort and may the angels surround you with love. Please know that she was loved by everyone here at Passions and we will miss her so much. Our prayers and love reach out to you.

This is such a tragic loss of someone truly special. I am thankful that her family was by her side when her time had come and that she is no longer in pain--but I am feeling an emptiness knowing that she is gone from us. She was so loving and supportive when I joined Pip. She made me feel so welcomed into this wonderful family of poets. I had so much respect for her both as a poetess and a loving human being. She was an integral part of this family's heart.

Lyra, I know that you'll be reading this and I want to say to you once more--we loved you very much---and we always will! Keep reading our poetry from cloud 9 and whispering your sweet and thoughtful replies in our ears! God bless you, Dear One.

Love,

To Dave & the family, when I gaze at the miraculous sky above,
I know that a brilliant new star now shines in the heavens.
May its light guide your way during these times of sadness,
and may you be soothed by the knowledge
that love's eternal beauty will forever shine.
Let love be your comfort.
You are in my heart and in my prayers.

Dearest Lyra..you will live on for all enterity in our hearts,
through your written word and memories.

Fly high..fly free sweet soul.
You were, and are, so loved here at Passions

May her family find comfort in the memories they shared.

I still remember how she, in the initial days of our correspondences, would confuse me as "Barry," and how she promised to share a slice of acorn pizza with me, seeing as we both had rodent screen names.

God bless, Lyra.

(wipes tears) You are one of the most special friends I have ever known and nothing in the world can ever change that, as I am speaking for every one of us here, who loves you so very much!

God Bless You, my dearest friend!

(big angel hugs) I also want to send extra special angel hugs out to you, Dave, for always being there for her and always will! (wipes tears) She will always love you and if you never need a friend to talk to, I am here and you count on all of us here! (big angel hugs of comfort)

God Bless You All!

I just read one of Titia replies to another poem about missing Lyra, and tears began to flow. I knew when I came back here this is what I would find. I am so sorry for all of us who have had the pleasure of knowing our sweet little Chippymunk...her dear Dave, her children, her sister, and all of her big family of friends here at Passions. She was a wonderful and loving lady, and a very big lose for all who knew her.

There are some people that just brush upon the tenderest places of you, and they become an indelible part.
I wanted to see you again Lyra, and walk in the park for a while...
Life takes us into it's surf, and I didn't get to do that...
But I will never forget a conversation, in the light of the love that you and David shared, a welcome to Michigan...and a friend that I will never forget.

Hugs David.

Stand Not There
~Ruth Kephart~

Stand not by my grave and weep
Where my body’s buried cold and deep
I am not, nor, were ever there
Beneath the ground now striped and bare

Stand not by my casket closed
Head bowed down, your stance reposed
Wherein the lowly vessel lies
I am not there, mine is the skies

Please, stand not under falling rain
In cemetery filled with pain
Where mourners gather out of love
I am not there, I’ve rose above

Oh stand not there, and do not cry
My dearest friends, I’ll tell you why
I’ve gone to greater places far
Above soft clouds and glistening star

'Till one day we shall meet once more
Where angels sing on golden shore
So do not stand there, do not weep
Let my body go, my memory keep

David, and family...

Nan and Mysteria kept me apprised as they could of the on-going care and love you gave our our Chipmunk.  In our archives are the chestnuts of poetry that she shared with us.  Please know, that her memory will live with us as long as Passions has a place on the web.  Even more - we will soon hold a book that bears her poetry, and her name.  Please know she was a wonderful friend to so many of us here.  Thank you, dear man, for sharing your loving wife with us.

God bless you.

Although she knew the danger
Of the illness deep within
When Lyra came to Tampa
We were dazzled by her grin.

She laughed and entertained us
With the stories of her life
And one could see the happiness
She felt as David's wife.

For all the courage shown, my friend,
Here's looking at you, kid.
Do chipmunks go to heaven? YES!
I know one who just did..

She was a wonderful and courageous lady who accepted her situation with dignity, strength, and the determination to fight to the end, which I'm sure she did...

Michael, what a beautiful poem for and about Lyra.
I will never forget her kindness in lending me support when I needed it and I so enjoyed her presence in Florida.

David, I especially remember your help in the scavenger hunt and the wonderful dinner we shared together before you drove me to the airport. She was so courageous and David, you lit up her life as she did ours and it showed in every way.

You have my sympathy in your loss and my gratitude in sharing Lyra with us.

I haven’t been around lately, but got this news from a friend. I’m so sorry to hear of this…I had been so hoping that a miracle would be there for Lyra, and that her strength and optimism, mixed with all our prayers, were going to make that miracle come true. Dave, my thoughts are with you and the rest of your family. We are all blessed to have known Lyra, if only for a short time. I think God saved a special place in heaven for her.

Rest in peace Lyra....
The angelic woman who was friendly to all,
and a true inspiration.
Lyra always took the time to read and comment on my poems, she was so supportive!

My thoughts are with lyra and fam.

Tears slide gently down my cheeks
This world's a poorer place
But with what joy our Lyra greets
Her son's beloved face!
She touched us all and her bright smiles
Will be so sorely missed
But weeping hearts have not one doubt
Today she's angel kissed.

I lack the words... I'm just grateful she graced us with her loving presence... her words and courage and joy in life will never be forgotten.
David, you and your family have my deepest sympathy... thank you for sharing her with us.

I first became an on-line friend of Lyra during my Moontown Cafe days. Almost immediately, it was apparent that she was someone special.

I have never known of any on-line acquaintance/friend to have died before...until...sadly...now.

You were special indeed, Lyra, RIP.

My deepest sympathies go out to Lyra's family and friends.  She was a rare, gentle woman who will quite obviously be missed as much as she will be remembered by many across her own country and the world.

I did not get the chance to know Lyra over the time I was here, but I did get to read her poetry.  Her words and kindness will be miss.  My thoughts are also with her family and friends.

A Walk In Tall Grasses

Come with me, said she
shyly, but wisely
in the veldt of helpless sorrow
I saw her shadow wilt

Be brave, for His hand is in yours
said she,
slipping her thoughts into mine
For the briefest of moments,
I felt violated as her soul found mine
and we walked, not talking,
souls conversing, complacent

Shed a short tear for now
Long is the weep for the future
without a loved one
But longer is the Rejoining together
of all Who Are Loved.

And I wept
for the family, for their loss
for the absent days of looking for her
and the disappointment of not finding

Gently, she wiped my cheek
and said: Soon, my friend,
you shall walk in Eden with me
and the grasses bent to her invisible feet
while I bent to my knees
and kissed the ground she had left

For Lyra Nesius 3/20/03
and for the family
with much love from Dulcy and Jeff

Rest well, dearest Chipmunk, and if Heaven is online, you will see the candle flicker as your light dims this world just a bit. May those still on this mortal coil find solace and peace.

With deepest respect,

I have just read this very sad news.

In loving Memory of Lyra aka/Little Chippy

There is a hollow ache that stirs within
the world is a little less brighter
A soul named Lyra has left us here
and travels in the light of forever

I took for granted knowing time was marked
I wrapped my thinking around tomorrow
Out of the loop
not wanting to believe
the moment would come

It is a loss shared by many
to be coped with alone

Letting go, we must.
Little Chippy,
I let the tears release
You leave behind many who have loved you
cared for you, believed in you and
received strength from you
even when you had so little left to give.

I pray for those you loved
and wish you
God speed towards the light.

Electra aka/SimplyGold

I'm so sorry to hear this and I thank Sharon and Michael for passing this on to me.  I didn't know her well, but, from what I did know of her, she was a a genuine sweet and classy lady.  Her family will be in my prayers.
